Sonicare and Oral-B are big names in the electric toothbrush market. However, they are being challenged by new brands such as Burst Oral Care.
The question is how do they compare and which should you go for?
I have been hands on with all 3 brands and in this video I give you my opinion on which brand might be best for you in specific circumstances.

a dentist made a video about the bacteria that can get under your gums and that a lot of toothbrushes can't get under the gums and get the bacteria out but burst can because at the starting point for the bristles, they're sturdy, and then when the bristles end- they're more thin and soft, also longer than the rest of the bristles below, so it can get the bacteria under the gums faster. i hope this helps for anyone wondering if they should get burst. and sorry if i don't make sense

Another dentist on KZfaq dyed his plaque red and used different toothbrushes to see which removed the most plaque. Burst won on his test but I’d like to see another test. Not having a pressure sensor sucks cuz I rely on that

Rick Buck's video shows that the Burst actually is the most effective at removing plaque, and it's by a fairly large margin. Not to mention they have an ADR rating of 86 meaning it won't cause too munch abrasion, something that can cause receding gums and other negative affects.

My old Oral-B doesn't have a timer and you motivated me to actually time myself and I take 3 and 1/2 minutes to brush, partly because I have one Wisdom tooth that is hard to get to. Is it bad that I am brushing for a bit longer? I don't feel like I can get my teeth cleaned in a shorter time. I could very easily go a full four minutes. I am using a soft brush head that is an older variation, I still have a ton of them. It has just a darker blue Single ring of brushes around the outside and then light blue in the center if you know that one. And I also agree about the circular brush head . I have another electric toothbrush and it is a different shape and it's harder to get my mouth cleaned.
@ElectricTeeth
@ElectricTeeth 3 жыл бұрын
It is not necessarily bad to be brushing for a bit longer. 2 minutes is the ideal minimum to remove the majority of the plaque and bacteria. A little longer will help get them a bit cleaner. But the results for the extra time as less generally speaking. 3 and a half minutes is potentially getting towards being too long, but it isn't a massive issue. It sounds like you are doing a good job.

@@ElectricTeeth Okay, thank you for your reply. The only problem I notice is when I brush the area where I have a crown with a bad margin. It has to be redone and when I use the electric toothbrush over that area it actually tears up my gum over that tooth. I'll aim for 3 minutes max on the brushing.

When you compare brush strokes per minute the Burst nearly comes out on top and you have to get the top of the range models for Phillips and Oral B to get as many or more brush strokes per minute as the Burst. Do they offer Burst in the UK (assuming you're in the UK)

The number of brush strokes/movements on Sonicare brush are consistent across their range at 31,000 movements/62,000 strokes. The top of the line models do not have more movements. Brust isn't yet sold in the UK where we are located.

But, which one cleans the best?? I really want to say that this is the BEST electric toothbrush review/comparison, because it’s so thorough, but there’s only one slight mention of Oral B cleaning better than the others. I would have liked to have seen a comparison of which one is the most effective at cleaning. That’s the MAIN reason why I was looking for a comparison video.
@ElectricTeeth
@ElectricTeeth 4 жыл бұрын
Paige. Thanks for the comment and explanation of why you were watching this comparison. The reality is that most electric toothbrushes clean the teeth really well and it is very difficult to say one is definitively better than the other. As far as I am aware Burst has not undergone many clinical tests/trials and not up against Oral-B and Sonicare. The most recent independent review of the clinical data available said that Oral-B is considered to be the best for overall cleaning. However, they acknowledged more research was required and this did not include Burst. More positive impact is actually gained from perfecting the brushing technique, time and frequency than picking between the cleaning action of these brushes. So in short, go for the one you feel most drawn to and focus on your brushing routine as the differences would be minor and very difficult to monitor due to so many variables. I hope this helps.

I've owned all 3 before. Not top model for oral B and Sonic but around 100 dollar range ones. Now I am using Burst. Base on built, I would say Burst is better built. Phillips I've used for 5 years and always buy a new system because the toothbrush no longer charge, or the head has become loose and vibration no longer work. I used oral B before and the built is the same as sonic care and it cleans better, but it do take longer to clean. After a year of use it died. No longer charge. With Burst, it has been about a year, it still charge, has not died, very well built. Vibration not as strong Sonicare but the brush head is way better than both the other one. I will stick to Burst for now due to better built and I really like the brush head. The brush head tip has not lost it's vibration yet.

I liked the Burst I had but I could tell the lack of power made my teeth not feel as clean overall. I personally have a Sonicare 4100 and a Oral B 1000 Pro, both fairly cheap priced at under $50, and I feel they are much better at cleaning my teeth than the Burst. I personally do not care about all of those expensive options as long as they clean my teeth great. i don't know if you can answer this but here goes - we all know that the actual manufacturers of this particular brand of this or that thing be it motor oil , elctronics or whatever etc . Seems it's probably true of different brands of toothbrushes . These actual, manufacturers are contracted by this store chain or toothbrush companies for example to supply them with these things . The toothbrushes from Walgreens ( generic brand ) looks the same as say Walmart ones ( Equate ) . Are they ? And what about actual manufacturers of Oral B and Phillips ?
@ElectricTeeth
@ElectricTeeth 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Frank. I can't comment too much on this as I don't have much insight into the manufacturing/supply chain side. As far as I am aware, major brands like Braun Oral-B, Philips Sonicare and Colgate Palmolive all design and manufacture their own brushes, and don't make them for or on behalf of anyone else. They might offer a model/package specific to a particular company. For example the Oral-B XYZ is only available in Walgreens for example. I do know that there are toothbrush factories/manufacturers who design and build their own models and sell them under multiple brands or allow other companies to buy and rebrand them as their own. So whilst I can't say for sure on the specific models you mention (I haven't handled these) principally, yes they could be the same, just with different coloured handles, names or box contents for example.

@ElectricTeeth

I would say Oral-B, based on the data available. But, and this is a big but. The data is limited and what matters more is actually using the brush regularly and correctly. You can have the best performing brush but if you don't use it right then it doens't make much difference. Both of these clean the teeth well and will remove more plaque and bacteria than a manual brush.

I'm sorry you feel this comparison was not fair. I take your feedback seriously and will consider how I can improve future content. As I explain at the start of the video, because Burst only offer 1 brush, aligning theirs directly with the many options that Oral-B or Sonicare offer, is more difficult. I could have compared the flagships of Sonicare and Oral-B to Burst, or I could have compared just the entry level brushes. Ultimately, the opinion will be based on where you stand and what you need or want from your toothbrush. However, I tried to give an overall comparison, taking into account all ends of the scale. The brushes in the video were for demonstration purposes only. They were not strictly the brushes I used as basis for the comparison.

Sonicare is definitely no longer innovative. It used to be but it's now about cost cutting and adding gimmicky features that most people don't care about. The current generation of its sonic drive design was lifted off Oral-B's. Most people just don't know about... Oral-B came up with a very cost effective sonic design but decided to pull it from the market. When the relevant patents expired, Sonicare use those design ideas to produce the current generation of the new brush head. This is also the reason why the market is flooded with competent Chinese copycat brands of sonic toothbrush.
