I had the honor and privilege of meeting Mr. Reynolds a few weeks before he died. He was at a celebrity "convention" in Pigeon Forge, TN, and I paid for the opportunity to get his autograph. He seemed very feeble and frail, so when I got my turn to meet him I shook his hand and told him I was praying for him. He very sincerely said, "Thank you, keep it up." I had been a fan for a long time, so this was a very special time for me.

I lived down in Jupiter, not far from his Ranch, and a mile or 2 from his Dinner Theater. Which I worked at while in college to be an RN. Jupiter during that time only had a population of about 23,000, half of which were snowbirds only living there during the winter. So it was really just a small town. This was a semi affluent part of Palm Beach County. A lot of celebrities lived in the area. Celene Dion, Tiger Woods, and if you went out on Jupiter Island, President GHW Bush's mother, and W's grandmother lived. American blue blood old money lived out there. So it was a relatively safe area. There were 2 universal truths held by the locals 1. Burt Reynolds was a national treasure 2. Loni Anderson was the Anti-Christ Strike that .... They'd share a beer with the Anti-Christ. She was LOATHED, and that was even before the divorce. When she bilked him out of shit ton of money he earned long before her, eventually leading to his bankruptcy. Forget it ... They were complete opposites. Burt, when he was at his ranch. He'd pull up next to people at red lights, and ask "Hey, have you seen Burt?" then drive off leaving them gobsmacked. She on the other hand ... there was an upper scale mall in Palm Beach Gardens, which was just down the way, and close to the ranch. She would go there to shop which she did A LOT of. As accessible as Burt was. All you could see of her, was that blonde mop of hair bopping up and down while she walked, surrounded by more body guards than was necessary. Completely closed off from the same people Burt loved to live near. That's what turned the town against her. She was too good to be around the Hoi Polloi. Hell,, Ted Kennedy and all the other little Kennedys, would socialize in the area. He often said Sallly Field was the love of his life, but he screwed it up.

When I lived in Lake Park, Florida, Burt lived in Jupiter, and sometimes I would go shopping for groceries late in the evening. One time when I was in the grocery store, I looked up and there was Burt Reynolds doing some shopping. We smiled at each other, but I didn't want to try to speak to him when he was busy getting groceries. We passed each other again in another aisle and just smiled. That was such a thrill to get a smile from such a wonderful guy.

Those are the same four I always refer to. Born in 73' myself. We grew up in the age of masculinity and testosterone on TV and movies, and many of these actors did their own stunts. A Tribute to Burt Reynolds: Walking tall with his shoulders back - a slight grin on his face with that wicked laugh .... Burt lived the life of 100 men - top of his game for 6 years in a row and in the lime light for over 60 of those years..he achieved heights a man could only dream of. Loved the most beautiful women, had the best of times with the best of the best. Could be considered one of the best actors in the business- even if at times he wasn't recognized for his talent. He should have won an Oscar for Deliverance - we love you and will never forget you. Legend is an understatement for him!!

Really good. I love Burt Reynolds. And the voiceover guy - whoever he is - does a great job. There's a 1999 movie Reynolds did called Mystery, Alaska, about a small-town pond hockey group hosting the Rangers. Reynolds has a good part, looks great, and the movie is one of my favorites. Cameos from Phil Esposito, Li'l Richard (one of the funniest scenes of all), and more. I highly recommend- to hockey fans and non-hockey fans too. It's unfortunate that this movie sometimes doesn't make Reynolds' list of his later work.

I've always loved watching Burt Reynolds and his movies since I was a kid. I turned 18 on June 15th of 1981. Cannonball Run was released on June 19th 1981. It was like a birthday present to me at the time because I have loved and idolized Dean Martin since I was 8 years old. I have a huge complete collection of mint to near mint Dean Martin LP albums, all of his movies and TV shows that have been released, Las Vegas shows and everything else collectable of his. When I found out that Dean Martin was going to be in a comedy about a car race across the US with Burt Reynolds, I just about lost it. LOL I couldn't wait to see that movie when it hit the theaters! My whole family went together and watched Cannonball Run at the theater up in Omaha where we lived at that time. I was very happy to learn that Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. became good friends with Burt Reynolds while making Cannonball Run 1 and 2. Thank you very much for making this KZfaq documentary about Burt Reynolds. I also enjoyed the KZfaq documentary you made about Dean Martin. Stay safe and healthy. 😊 Merry Christmas to you and your family. 🎁☃️⛄❄

Thank you Jerry Skinner for making this documentary. I grew up in Jupiter, FL and one day dreamed of working with Burt. I did two projects with him: presenting him with the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001 at the Florida (FMPTA) Crystal Reel Awards and as a producer of "Movie Money CONFIDENTIAL" which ended up being the last movie he ever appeared in directed by Rick Pamplin. It brought me to tears and also a smile where at the end of your documentary after Burt says: "I had a Hell of a good time." I heard Todd Vittum's familiar laugh who was right by his side for many years. RIP to the biggest movie star in the world and also someone with the biggest, kindest heart. :)

Mr. Skinner. You're a great man. Burt Reynold's was born here in Lansing, MI., as well as Steven Seagal. Neither of them ever acknowledged where they came from, Lansing, MI. I love your stories.

Another great episode Mr Skinner. Miss Burt Reynolds. Always reminds me of my Dad who never shaved his mustache until my daughter was born and as a toddler she hated how he scratched her face when he kissed her.

Terrific documentary about my favorite movie star. I was lucky to get a chance to meet and interview him for a podcast I did for a while. I tried to keep the conversation poised on positive things, and I think he really dug that (though I did urge him to reconsider his opinions on Boogie Nights, which I told him was some of his best work, alongside Deliverance, The Longest Yard, The End, Starting Over, Best Friends, Sharky's Machine, and Breaking In). He was a very kind guy with a big heart, a sure-fire sense of humor, and a memorable talent for performing.

Deliverance was a trouble-plagued film. The tensions between John Boorman and screenwriter James Dickey actually turned into a fistfight, which Boorman lost. That said, Burt became a legend with that film.

@@timepoet77 That may be true, but none of that matters if you consider how greatly the difficulty paid off. It's an incredible film, & was VERY profitable. First time I saw it was an actual film projection on a huge scale say 30 ft across at a UCF cinema class in '90. Unbelievably intense, no surround sound needed. I'd never even heard of it! I now have it on bluray, but nothing compares to on film & feel very fortunate I first saw it that way.
