But the sword is a manifestation of his own power and he is the rightful owner of it though. It probably sensed him nearby and detached itself off its secondary owner. In that condition he wouldn't have a choice but to take it any ways. As a Sparda he knew the arm would grow back. He just didn't know it would take a month's time. For a half demon it probably didn't take that long.
