Jaime Rodríguez Medal, Director of CONFEBUS, made a significant statement at the Iberian Peninsula Roadshow of BUS2BUS: “The image of buses being old-fashioned maybe comes from people who do not use them.“ In Spain, local bus and long-distance coach transport are the most popular ways to travel, ranking second in Europe in terms of public appreciation. Tiago Sá, Sales Director of CaetanoBus, highlighted the importance of providing comfortable seats for drivers, who spend the most time on board. He also addressed the shortage of qualified bus drivers. The panelists at the Iberian Roadshow discussed the need to extend public contracts with manufacturers during the transition to new drives, recommended electric vehicles for shorter and medium distances, and explored other solutions for long distances. They also discussed the potential of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and the advantages and disadvantages of retrofitting during the transition.
