I needed to take it easy after last week's clean-up and happened to spot this bush in need of a clear out on the way home.

I guess a Tolkienesque love of nature is rarer than I thought.

Anyone who watches this video and is shocked, multiply this bush by a conservative 10,000 and you'll probably start getting a sense of what the situation is just in NW London. This bush is not an exception, it's the rule, as anyone who's litter-picked around here will tell you. The only people who clean up these literal open-air rubbish bins are volunteers like Chilli and no one else - the man deserves a bloody medal. Rubbish is simply left there to accumulate and the bushes literally grow around rubbish. Items from 10, 20, even 30 years ago are regularly found in such bushes.

This is why bushes and edges need removing otherwise that litter would be there probably for a very long time. I'm not against nature but this is the outcome. Fantastic job and thank you for cleaning it all up.

It’s like they use the most dense and annoying plants and bushes in these green zones/patches…same here in the Netherlands 😬 It’s almost impossible to get in there with just a litter picker; I’m actually considering taking some sort of hedge trimmer with me in the near future 🥴😋

This seems to be standard for most bushes where I live. The council only pick up rubbish that is on the pavement

It always amazes me how bushes and hedges are simply bin alternatives in London 😂

Good on ya for what you do! I've been cutting grass at my local church for over 10 years and I'm picking litter up every week on the grounds and near by roads. I swear litter is getting worse but people like you make a difference! All best!

Thanks to you I started whistling too on my plogging routes 😅 Keeps my spirit up a bit 👍🏻 By the way…How do you stay positive after seeing and cleaning so much rubbish? Do you go on autopilot or is it a mindset thing? 🫠 Thanks again for the videos and all of the cleaning you do 👍🏻👏🏻 Cheers from the Netherlands!

I guess that people in U.K. see a green area and they think is a green dump area.

Councils need to be proactive and remove bush areas like this. The average Joe Bloggs can't help himself and must throw his rubbish away

It seems like the bulk of London’s trash is in the bushes. And that’s still saying something because there’s still a lot of trash on the streets. London is so beautiful so sad that people don’t recognize how to take care of nature’s beauty.

I really wonder the age of the trash you are removing. Aluminum cans and bottles don’t reveal their age …. Other than being buried deeper in the ground. And as an American, I wonder at the lack of grounds keeping in the area you are helping. We here have commercial malls and shopping centers held responsible to maintain the beauty of those commercial centers. As well as apartment buildings. Government offices also are landscaped and maintained. Where we fall down is in housing areas where there are no Home Owners or Condo Owner Associations. Anyway, if it were not for the ground covered with leaves and vines and weeds, people would be less likely to toss stuff on a well groomed… well maintained landscape. It doesn’t seem that contracted or govt mowers where they do mow have to clear the garbage prior to mowing …. They seem to just mow over stuff! Our problem is trash from the homeless and their nests under bridges …. Along waterways. We tend to collect trash by forming work group volunteers and don’t do much work as independent litter pickers… ALL otter picking is such valuable work and so in need of recognition 🏆
