This is a Piper Pacer built in the 50's. It has 31" Alaskan Bushwheels , Baby Bushwheel, 160 HP Lycoming with a 82" Borer Propeller. These are great airplanes for many reasons and one should take a serious look at these airplanes if price is a consideration. Bang for the buck they just can't be beat.
I am posting this in response to a few negative posts I have seen. By the way, my channel, my rules. I will remove them when I see them so you might as well not waste your time. Give me a thumbs down if you don't like this video, or any of the other videos and leave my channel. That is the best way to vote here.

Being a pacer driver, it is absolutely the most economical Bush capable plane. I personally think there’s a few mods you should have #1 the gear needs to be reinforced or have the trimmer cub gear stc. #2 VG’s. #3 one of the wingtip extension kits. If you really want to improve the slow flight get centers xwind cuff kit. The other great thing about a pacer, it’s relatively easy to load it to gross and stay within its CG.

Converted a 1956 PA-22 (7117B) to a Pacer in 1982. Picked up some speed and fun to fly. Flew the Tripacer about 12 years before doing the conversion.

I agree 100% the PA-20 or PA-22 converted to tailwheel is one of the best values right now. I think the prices will go up as they start to catch on as bush planes, like they already have in Alaska.

More pacer Videos! We have a pacer. 8.50s right now but this made me want 31's. Lots of rocks this year on the bars in my area, so I'm stuck with relatively few places 8.50s work well!

Might be the best kept secret in the Backcountry. I have A PA16 and went to all the strips in Idaho except Simonds. A Pacer will do the same, but better since it has more forgiving gear and a slower approach than my Clipper.

I'd love to see something somewhat scientific relating to hydroplaning in. Like putting up a vertical stripe board on the far side and land dry, then land wet and see what the actual physical result is. Or can you do the exact thing with your chron? Will it measure accurately that slow?

So I could covert the Nose gear Tripacer into a Bush plane and all I would need is to find a cheap one that needs a engine and prop first and the cost of the change or look for one that is already a tail wheel which the cost is more less than knowing what it looks like isn’t important than a shiny plane that I can’t fly :!

Everything is good on the old pacer except the gear I now of 3 with wing tips into the ground caused by broken gear new props and motor tear downs. I tried to build safety cables on after mine broke but didn’t come up wth anything that would work. I think trimmer aviation gear is the way to go with the certified machines. It’s a pretty big job is the problem. Cheaper than broken gear from what I’ve experienced.

I have seen some pretty rough landing with Daryl's airplane and knock on wood it has not failed to this point. He runs 31" ABW and runs the tire pressure down to where you can put your knee into the tire pretty deep (probably around 4.5-5 psi.) . I am sorry to hear that, that is a bummer.
@frasercanyon1

I must confess the 3 incidences were in Bushmaster’s which are heavier. Found a crack on my gear leg last winter so I decided to build cub gear and new frame. 43 years since it had been built as a bushmaster so it was pretty much time. Thanks for all your videos over the years. You made everybody realize that you didn’t need a cub to do cub things.

on my pacer I installed the 3" HD PA-18 gear. Agree that it is much more stout, and the gear is much wider. Too expensive to install unless the airplane is torn apart. Lots of welding required.

It will limit you in a lot of ways but if you consider it for what it is and stay out of really rough stuff, put bigger tires on you can still play on beaches etc.

I would say that the stall speed is still a little to high Why? Wind speed and direction not given nor temp. Because you can see he needs to come in fairly fast and tries to slow the ground roll with everything he's got, and there is no elevation a given where he is landing and taking off from. as the higher you go the stall becomes very significant, Those wings look a little short for the carrying capacity, they need to be a slight bit bigger with wing tips that collect the air flow under it, to reduce stall speed. The belly of the plane looks similar to an AC15 sedan, where the wing of an AC 15 is much bigger, so lift in that plane is just not there at higher elevations, my estimation the stall speed of that bird is around 50 mph, My opinion, but because other stats are not given, is my reasoning
