Heron Myer Russia is not hardcore...it's a glorified ice cube. I've been to Moscow and St. Petersburg many times (I don't speak Russian a family friend does) Israel has a mandatory military service and will shoot Palestinians in the dick for no reason at all I've also heard of them force feeding Palestinians gasoline and setting them on fire from the inside out. They're all completely evil but literally any country in the Middle East is more "hardcore" than Russia. All the people on the far right who think it's some Nazi utopia are mistaken as my gay Mexican ass has been there 3 times over the last 2 years and it's pretty nice not scary or weird for people like me at all. Beautiful architecture and museums, awe inspiring churches and amazing food.

Most soldiers are. Putin's 5' 6" and the world male average is something like 5' 8" or 5' 9". Most politicians on the other hand are taller than average because that extra height subconsciously conveys a sense of authority. Personally, as much as he scares the hell out of me at least Putin is making every effort to look competent. Height's not really an issue.

I never understood this game of translators. Putin doesn't walk around with a translator at the WEF and G20 summits. Okay, it makes sense when the US and Russia conduct negotiations but here you can clearly see and hear Putin react the first time Bush congratulates him for catching a fish. Maybe there was a delegation with him?

Putin has enemies in Russia. Those enemies have agents outside of Russia.Despite the routine “it’s all under control at the helm body language “Putin genuinely wants to get this sitting duck scenario over with as he doesn’t even have a side arm on him in his defence much less an AK & body armour. And there is no one near enough to dive in and take the bullet. You just naturally know George Bush would be out of there like a first timer in Basra.No matter how badass someone has proven to be and still is ,vulnerable is vulnerable and the longer you have gone without having an attempt on your life the more awareness of your own presence and the lack of tangible external defence is evidenced in tell-tale body language like momentarily holding your own hands or waving your arms around broadly. Putin has the upbringing of having to always demonstrate respect to subordinates, peers and superiors.He has learnt to be ruthless in order to survive as long as he has at the top of his game but his leadership is highly dependent on disciplined leadership displaying military style humility that is mistaken as acquiescence. GWB on the other hand clearly had a privileged upbringing and he is totally comfortable with his elitist mindset and is totally happy to concede he didn’t catch a fish as a small price to pay for having to offer a paperthin welcome devoid of any human sincerity.This was straight PR with no relish. A lukewarm necessity to maintain the narrative on both sides of the Atlantic.The blind faithful will read more into it than what is actually happening. And that’s good for both parties in an awkward temporary contractual gesture of commerce.
