This is a collection of tips and ideas for all campers and bushcrafters. I show improvised gear and custom made items for camp chairs, tables and shelves. I also show how an exercise ball can be used as a chair or part of a sleep system.

ok, it was me that suggested another piece to stabilize the shelves. now, i want to compliment you on the old as dirt in a good way, REALTREE camo. i bought that pattern and another just about the same, man its been 20 years ago, nope more than that. as you know i like the Tigerstripe like you do but back when i was hunting a lot i noticed that Realtree pattern goes up and down . its a great match for our brush and trees that look the same. great job David. you keep makin em and we will keep watchin em.

You will have to forgive Chris. Our neighbors were gifted California sparkling wine ( poor man’s champagne) and left it by the mailbox along with donated church food. We had a bottle with strawberries from the farmer’s market last night. His family are coming out to meet me. I’m making coffee . He’s dangerous half asleep. We loved visiting as always! Amanda

10 year old me: watching Bugs Bunny, Roadrunner, Ant & the Aardvark; 61 year old me: watching some mad genius roll around in the woods on an exercise ball LOL. The tip with the tent pegs blew my mind. I personally haven't had any issues but wow, that was a brilliant solution if there's a problem! I've considered making such a table but I think I'd use 3 legs only, 3 points make a plane and it's less to cut. But considering you used 4 I bet I'm wrong!

Those Bungie cords are a real piece of creative skills and ideal for fitting the different tree situations at camp sites on the fly and reduce work keeping your goods off the ground. Another good video, Dave. Always a bonus seeing your ideas. I like the shelves and the mod. That would make them more versatile and more user friendly. Couple those with the standing cooking system, and that would be great. As you stated, the more you don't have to squat or kneel on the ground, as you get older, or have knee and / or hip issues, is a plus. I still love camping and taking the grandkids out, but just don't enjoy the getting down on the ground much anymore. You use your noggin and think, then come up with something. Then that makes us have to think as well. God bless ya'll, my friend . Ya'll stay safe out there on your adventures.

I like the tip about the camo bed sheet. I'm thinking polyester sheets would be best. The bed sheet could also be used in other ways. One way might be as a cold weather inner tent. Another way is, if it were sewn like a poncho, to be used as an outer garment for a little extra warmth in cold weather. Also, a bed sheet could be used (go figure) as a bed sheet. Then there is the possibility, with more than one, that you could have different types of camo , so you could select the bed sheet best suited for the local environment. For example, you might have a desert camo sheet, a snow camo sheet, and summer and fall camo sheets, each sewn like ponchos. You could wear as many layers of garments as needed for the weather. Now if you had an ultralight poncho for rain, that doubles as a tarp shelter, then these various bed sheets would fit the shelter, inside or as a camo stealth covering for the 'tarp'. In addition to that, some folks carry two ponchos. That way, if it's raining when they are setting up camp, they can protect themselves and their gear from the rain. Also, with two ponchos, in the configuration where the ponchos are snapped together to make one large tarp, again the bedsheets would fit the shelter. Interesting.

Good stuff Dave. I know you already have the tables made but if you make some in the future just include a 2-3" tongue sticking out the back and bent upward at 90 degrees.....then use a bungie or buckle strap around the tree and cross over the tongue. That way you have one less part to deal with. I like those tables. The tent stake tip is awesome and of course the table that takes the limb legs is stellar.

Love the paracord lashing to the machete sheath. kind of like what I do. A tip to help with the cord slipping off at the bottom use a length of the cord and weave it up through the wrap and then go behind the knife sheath then do the same going down the other side. all ya have ta do then is a shorter weave to anchor in the cord then cut it to length and push under the rest of the cord. that also has the benefit of adding a little extra cord if the need arises. great vis as always Dave. thanks for the ideas that are swimming in my head. lol

Wow Dave, very great hacks! Always interesting to see what you do! I’m getting ready to work on my bike after not using it for a long time, great way to carry that pack on the bike. Thanks for your reminder about enjoying life and family and getting rid of the baggage of the world, advice we all need to take!

Great video Dave. The exercise ball is a neat idea. The new bag looks like it will definitely come in handy for a bed. Or a potato sack race 🤣. I agree with another comment I seen. You have to be the most inventive/resourceful bush crafter there is. Take care and stay healthy. Can’t wait till the next video.

I can't believe the things I learn on your channel. So many useful ideas!! Thanks for the encouragement at the end there, Dave. I was waiting all day to watch this. I quick downloaded it to my phone this morning but where I was there was so little signal I couldn't get KZfaq to load. So saved the best for last. :) The balance ball idea is very doable it seems like. And the machete and knife setup is cool.

Yes, don't want a camo coloured bike when out doing stuff in the woods or you might have a long walk home.😅 Looking into seating options is definitely a good idea, sometimes when you've put in the miles or been extra busy you just need a proper sit down for half an hour that doesn't involve another 2 hours of dragging logs about and cutting them to size. If you cut 4 posts about 2 feet each, unzipped the stroller bag all the way, put the posts in a sqare about a foot apart and put the stroller bag upside down ontop of the posts so the ends are the bag, youd have a roof and your upper body covered (sat down) in a pinch.

The rubber of the ball keeps it from sliding around. The ball can be used as a flotation device, and even a fire starter in an emergency.

I always enjoy watching your videos Dave. Looking forward to the next one. I have an idea for the tree shelves. The C shaped support could have a couple of bumps bent into the middle that the bungees would go under to help it not slip down. This would add more stability. Of course the wire would have to be a couple of inches longer to account for the bump extensions.
@AirstripBum
@AirstripBum 7 ай бұрын
Just thought of something. You would only need one nub or bump in the middle of the support. The top bungee would go right under the top shelf support. Even more stability! Ain’t we smart? LOL

Dave: I was gratified to see you using the "billy club grip" with the lanyard on your machete. I've written and told folks about it for years, but you're the first I've seen who actually uses it. It is so much safer than the typical "thong around the wrist" method. (Ask me how I learned that lesson, some forty years ago.)
