Man, you are hard core. Fighting the flu and putting out an outstanding video. Nobody would have minded if you had waited until you fully recovered. Your effort is appreciated. If ther was a bushcraft commendation medal you would win it.

This is how you train. Less than ideal conditions. Cold, wet, or under the weather. If you can train and excel under those conditions, then the real thing will be a cake walk.

I wouldn't waste time or tape, wrapping a Bic lighter. They have a shelf life, although the flint might come in handy once it dies. I carry a birthday candle, cotton ball with Vicks, magnesium rod, along with a Bic and matches, knowing the Bic can fail. Glad you mentioned shemogh and bandana. Marking ribbon doesn't take up my space or weight much, so I'd rather use that than a shemogh as a trail marker. Plus ribbon can be left behind.

Thank you Andrew for explaining why you are carrying so many options for fire in this kit. But why not also have some water purification tablets? I would trade that for the flint and steel. You've got the bic lighter and the ferrorod, but you can only boil water. A few tablets would give you water in the middle of the day without having to stop working.
@joshuaadrian9461
@joshuaadrian9461 Жыл бұрын
Maybe because he can purify his water with fire, fire will also keep him warm, and he can cook food on the fire. Not saying those tablets are a bad idea but you would want to make sure you can have fire as a #1 to maintain heat food and water so it’s more of a 3 in 1
@andrewallason4530
@andrewallason4530 Жыл бұрын
@@joshuaadrian9461 where I live (Australia), I will always advise people to carry water purification tablets. So frequently here you do not want to light a fire as it’s already too bloody hot. We have many days of the year where it is foolish or illegal to light a fire (but in a true emergency you might be forced and forgiven).
@joshuaadrian9461
@joshuaadrian9461 Жыл бұрын
@@andrewallason4530 oh yeah, in Australia it probably wouldn’t be needed to have a fire. Where I’m from most of the year you need a fire to stay warm otherwise you risk hypothermia
@andrewallason4530
@andrewallason4530 Жыл бұрын
@@joshuaadrian9461 yeah. It can get bloody cold here to. I’m in Tasmania, about the same latitude south as Toronto is north, but we have a much more temperate environment being such a large island so far from any other land mass. They have been filming two series of our version of Alone about 1 1/2 hours away from my farm here in Tassie. I get to live it most days. I spend July each year about 3 hours north west of Toronto to keep my vitamin D topped up.

the 1 thing i would add is a way to sharpen my knives. the multi tool has a file but a small stone or diamond sharpener would be great as things will get dull. i added a triangle file as it will get great sparks off a fero rod and touch up my tools . all fits in the old LBE fanny pack with 2 canteens with the cups and stand off bases.

A very good option for a multi tool is the MUTIFORCE the scissors, saw blade, and components are the highest quality I have seen for the price and the bit driver uses regular bits with and extension for 40 bucks it hangs with all the latest multi tools and better in some ways. It's not just an opinion it's the truth. Awesome brother! Get well!

Glad you are on, Skipper. This vid reminds me of British SAS “Shoot and Scoot” scouting missions, when teams of four could be outnumbered by 150 adversary. Scouting suddenly became survival, and it was definitely back to basics. One thing I carry for EDC is some protein-based bug repellant.

Glad to hear you’re on the mend after a nasty flu! Thanks for another excellent video! 😊 I like to wax my jute twine to give it a bit longer burn time. I use super cheap jute twine you can get for about $1 and then make a four strand round braid to give it some thickness, about the diameter of a drinking straw. Works great within a metal tube as a match, and you can use the tube as a bellows. I also like my Leatherman Free P4 so much that it’s part of my EDC. It’s not perfect, for example the file is too small, but it’s easier to EDC for me than my bigger and more capable Surge, which I prefer for packing in a field kit. I really like the Helikon-Tex Numbat for when a full-on chest rig or plate carrier might not be the best fit. Easy access to most used gear and it’s pretty rugged.
