The Bushido Code
Bushido is a code of conduct that emerged from the Japanese warriors, the Samurai, and dates back to as early as the eight century. It is an unwritten code of teachings that warriors were expected to uphold as they faced battles and challenges. To this day, the Bushido Code is used to emphasize courage, respect, honour and compassion in everyday life throughout the world.

That age was actually very violent and to live there was not a blessing. Samurais were a social class, not something in the common folk. But it's true, we need honor and justice today. But we can start bringing those to the world with our actions.

Errrr... read anything about the sengoku period.... it sucked... there was a high chance you were going to get slaughtered by the neighboring clan. The bushido code is great in the sense of ideals. The problem is, human nature takes those ideals and drags them through the mud in order to gain success in life. Its one thing to hold onto the code and swear by it, its another thing to actually act it out.

I appreciate how this video not only highlights the virtues of Bushido but also emphasizes their practical application in modern life. The concept of 'true courage' and 'acutely honest dealings' are particularly impactful, urging us to embody these traits in our personal and professional interactions. It's a powerful reminder of the timeless wisdom contained within the samurai code.

Good post. However, the Bushido is largely written down in several different books. Practically all quotes in this video comes from the book "Bushido Shoshinshu", or "Bushido for beginners", written down in the 18th ccentury in order to standardize the teachings fo Bushido during the Tokugawa Era in Japan. It is a short and very practcila book full of common sense advice and instructions for mainly young Samurai living in an age of peace. It is therefore strange that the video says that Bushido was not written down. Interestingly enough, the codes of Bushido were largely unwritten druring prior to the Tokugawa Era and deliberately so, since Bushido was regarded as a form of mental weapon that enemy Samurai clans should not learn from each other.

Oleg Benesch debunked bushido. It was used as a tool to pump up japan into nationlism and obedience to the emperor. Most samurai were merchants and brutal men who killed women, children, animals without honour or care of life. In actual fact they were more closer to how the vikings are depicted.

“There is something to be learned from a rainstorm. When meeting with a sudden shower, you try not to get wet and run quickly along the road. But doing such things as passing under the eaves of houses, you still get wet. When you are resolved from the beginning, you will not be perplexed, though you will still get the same soaking. This understanding extends to everything.” Tsunetomo Yamamoto, The Hagakure: A code to the way of samurai

Samurai era was bloody but was an era of Japanese culture too,…everything is born with the need of time…..whatever our roots are they should be respected, any short coming can always be reformed but abandoning the “roots” completely is the crime towards our ancestors, and when the elders are ignored and forgotten in any culture, the culture meets its death soon and for sure. And hence even the younger generation starts to walk a decline path. I hope Japan awakens soon, the unbroken zeal of this profound civilisation rises again, and the sun shines upon the people of the land with peace.

Samurai (侍) were the hereditary military nobility and officer caste of medieval and early-modern Japan from the late 12th century to their ABOLITION in 1876. Nanjing happened in 1937 almost 50 years later and was fought by commoners not the Samurai in fact if the Samurai were still around I doubt Japan would have gotten involved in WW2

To be honest the whole concept of Bushido is bullshit. It was a concept that arose late during the Samurai era and was rarely heard of. The idea that they ALL followed some "code" is complete fantasy. The Samurai were brutal and ruthless. While their society was dictated by honor, that idea today has been heavily distorted by the western concept of Chivalry which has been incorrectly used as a comparison.
