A NEAR TRAGIC ACCIDENT - THE HIDDEN VALLEY, GLENCOE, SCOTLAND
I watched from the other side of the valley a man slip and fall about 150m or so tumbling at speed. He didn’t move for quite some time but gave me a hand signal so I knew he was conscious. I made my way over to him to assist in his potential rescue but luckily, in fact, extremely luckily he could walk off the mountain with just bumps and bruises.
Please take care out there and reduce risk where possible.
All love
Al and Blue

I was wondering how long take to do the whole trekking? also, could you please let me know what is this thing you have that put your sleeping mattress in a seating position/back support? I love it! and thanks for your videos I found them very interesting. Greetings from Berlin.

Many years ago I was walking up that exact slope with the well known mountaineer John Grieve, leader of the Glencoe Rescue, when we came on some squaddies doing self-arrest practice under the orders of an officer. The slope was icy and the out-run was dangerous, and we saw a couple of near accidents as the trainees lost control and slid into the rocks at speed. John explained who he was an requested the officer to find a safer spot, but he refused, very arrogantly, and ordered them to continue. This was literally putting their lives at risk. After another refusal, John whipped out his rope and with my help we trussed up the officer hand and foot. John then ordered the squaddies down the hill - which they did, with considerable glee. John took a photo of the officer in this humiliating position, and warned him that if anything happened to the men he'd send it to his commanding officer along with a report detailing his arrogant and irresponsible behaviour. The guy was literally frothing with range and threatening us with all sorts - but he obviously came to his senses because we heard nothing more about it...

😂😂😂 Brilliant! What a story but sometimes that arrogance kills! Those squaddies that died from heat exhaustion training in a heat wave a few years back, their officer needed the same treatment.

Similar thing happened to us, in Wales, but our officer was a good one! He got bollocked for taking the lads down off the mountain, during an exercise. He had only just made ’Captain’, but didn't give a bugger about what HQ wanted, while they were in their heated digs. He made a command decision and stuck to it. REspect!

As much as I love England's scenery, Scotland is just something else. I finally went to Glasgow last October and also went via the West Highland rail line to Fort William and explored some of the natural beauty there, including a walk in the piss rain from Glencoe village to The Three Sisters viewpoint and back. Still jawdropping, despite the grim weather. Also, hats off to you for helping that man.

Firstly, great to see your assistance to the fellow mountain enthusiast and it's re-assuring for others to see that we do look after each other on the hills. That could have been a much worse situation as you said. I've yet to venture into the Hidden Valley but know it's a hot spot for the 'gram' and the fire spots just show this, plus I wouldn't be surprised if it was the ancient trees that were the fuel. Good to see the valley from another point of view and looking forward to getting up there myself sometime soon.

Superb video again Al. Good to see you put in the effort to check on the guy that had the fall. As I'm sure you know it isn't great to take a casualties word for it that they are okay, denial is the default reaction for many a casualty in a situations like that. Fantastic that you were rewarded with a good 9 hour kip for your good deed 👍🏼

What an epic! Always good to see people helping others in their hour of need so, well done to you. Interesting you say it's a river bed where you camped and it's in complete contrast to the other one you pitched in and you were practically afloat. That was a really memorable camp! I guess I'm not the only one who calls to Blue when he approaches the camera. What a faithful companion you have there and he really enjoys himself. Tail wagging all the time and he really does look like a rescue dog with his pack on. I've been to Glencoe several times in the past and it's such an impressive part of the country. Sadly, because of my disability now, I've had to ease up my 'adventures' though I can still manage some gentler walks with my hiking poles. Maybe, just maybe.......................?

I love the place, stumbled on the Hidden Valley by accident, like you, I thought it was prehistoric! It doesn't look that far to get up where that guy fell but it takes an age. Glad he was OK, must've had a right shock. No way there's a twin of Blue, but alas, there is haha, two stunning dogs. Such a great camp, calm and what a night sky, absolutely stunning! Needless to say, you were clearly ready and willing to do anything to help that guy, think it gave you even more drive to get up that snow👏. Top video as always, great place, look forward to the Ben Nevis one😀🏞🤘

Thanks Paul. I thought exactly that… it took an age to walk up that path and you don’t seem to get any closer😂. I was definitely mentally preparing for all scenarios to help that guy out with the kit I had like sliding /lowering him down in my emergency Bivvy to get him off the snow. 👍

Top Man !! Absolute respect. Random act of kindness, took some effort but the guy I'm sure was grateful for the support and kindness. Liked how you led him to safety. Great bloke and Blue certainly lifted his moral. Had my own casivac yesterday off Grisedale Pike. Did a wildcamp Saturday night with our lass about half way up. We did Grisedale the next day and the air pressure and wind kicked off her Vertigo/Labyrinthitis (never happened on the hills before. Got us set up in a quick tarp shelter and applied her meds and waited for them to kick in. Very proud of her, hates walking poles and she used mine and step by step she got down. It hasn't put her off but made us think about future locations. ATB and thanks for your efforts Cheers Sel and Tracey (she shouted, put my name on too 🤣)

Wow well done for sorting her out and even more respect for her overcoming the situation. She should be proud and also feel more able to get out there as she knows that even in a situation like that she can overcome it (and it may not happen again). Good effort getting out there👍
