On June 16th I spent the entire day trackside at the busy Santa Fe Junction in Kansas City, MO. The action was endless and I saw a total of 44 trains, with tons of interesting power. There's too much to list in the description, so sit back, relax, and enjoy some of the best freight railfanning that the country has to offer!
Subdivision(s):
BNSF Marceline Subdivision
BNSF Emporia Subdivision (KC Terminal)
UP Falls City Subdivision (KC Terminal)
BNSF St. Joseph Subdivision
Location(s) In Order of Appearance:
Kansas City, MO/KS (Santa Fe Jct)
Parkville, MO
Thanks For Watching & Enjoy!

12:54 *Watco* (WAMX) is _contracted_ to operate the Kansas City Terminal Railway and switch rail yards and industries located on KCT trackage. KCT is jointly _owned_ by the area Class 1 railroads *BNSF, CP, KCS, NS,* and *UP* that it connects.

The first train was on the flyover, not the hi-line. The Hi-Line is the track below that first train that crosses the Kansas river.

Nice work. Those low-angle long shots are outstanding. Liked. Most I ever saw at one time over here was 7 on the VR cam. A BN meet on the flyover, a UP meet on the raised, and ground-level had a UP on the curve headed east, a BN going west, and that yellow and black small carrier on the curve moving north to east. Crazy out here.

Great video! I like these long ones. Sitting in the office is somehow less tedious when you've got the ambiance of trains to offset the silence.

Those trains with the containers up top are z trains. They're the hotshot of the railroad. The entire railroad stops for them to go by.

A great video. Nice info board. Don't break a leg to video two cars as there is ample train action otherwise. Nice to see the engineer let the truck pass. Rode RI,SF, UP in/out of KC.

A few weeks ago when I was in KC I saw quite a few of the ex BNSF dash 9s (GECX) now owned by KCS. So are the GECX units on BNSF trains on loan from KCS to BNSF?

4:39 It would have been intelligent for the pilot on the bottom train to stop ~15 metres before the bridge instead of just under it, so that if the train above fell, it would not have fallen on the locomotives.

Man those dash 9s need to be put out to pasture, would have been better to keep the warbonnet dash 8s :) Great clear video, awesome footage.

Santa Fe Junction is so busy that it's the one place I need two cameras to capture everything (which is handy for stuff like at 19:14), and I had to split my videos of my visits to SFJ there into two parts! This junction has the capacity to have TEN trains going through it at one (if you count the Ft. Scott Sub tracks which you can't see from this parking lot). I do hope that someone builds a train-watching tower here for the public someday as this is in a part of the city not many people drive through

In light of various comments put forth about slowdown in the economy, how does the train traffic here compare to say 2 or 5 years ago. After all, Walmart is actually closing some stores, and what about coal traffic? Thanks. I live up here in St. Joseph, MO. 8-20-21.

Apples and oranges. I’ve never been to Europe and have no interest in going there, but I do know that probably more FREIGHT traffic goes through this area in a month than goes by rail in Western Europe in at least six months on their dinky little freight trains.
