The artificial intelligence revolution coincides with the growing sense of a weakening of democracy in the world, including the United States as it approaches its November elections. Far from being coincidental, plausible evidence points to the relation of AI to the ailments of democracy; misinformation, deep fakes, targeting of political refugees and individuals. Business stands in the center of these struggles, unable to find solutions to moderate or detect misinformation or to establish and enforce principles for a responsible AI. Our discussion enters into central issues of threat of AI, as well as to the many actions that business and new forms of governance can do to protect democracy.
