Dude was a sideline to sideline linebacker - definitely not a crash Linebacker there for thus he failed at Sam. Tall lanky, could run and play centerfield and was a good wrap tackle but average at POA. Free safety in college and put him at Sam? That's how you get fired. Lovie shows up and puts him in the middle of the Tampa Two and the guys in the Hall of Fame, I'm just saying...

Urlacher was a MLB, in other words he was the QB for the defensive side of the ball. Communicating and calling stuff out was part of his job description. The mouthpiece would stifle his ability to do that.
