Busta is the most underrated MC of all time. They never bring him up when they talk about top MCs. But if you look at his stats. He came out in 1989. That means he was out before Biggie, Tupac, Snoop, Jay-Z, Eminem, Nas, DMX and is still making music. Busta is still relevant. Still popular. Now anybody who is really into rhymes and style cant tell me a huge difference between say Busta and Eminem. But Busta never gets the same love. It’s all about the push. Busta has a hit in the 80’s, 90’s, 00s, 10s, 20s. How many can say that?

Jay and Busta are equally good in my eyes. Think about it. The only thing is Busta has an outrageous energy that nobody can match. Now I’m about to throw a wild card in there. Energy for energy Mystikal would be close to Busta. Pac and X as well.

I like what he said about "bring your lunch pale to work and work hard" ... Busta is really all about making music. I've heard Busta say he's in the studio every single day. He's not spending his time building brands, he just makes music. He has developed his skill on the mic in a major way through hard work and dedication. You don't want to go after him in a live show.. Busta remains in my top 5. HOWEVER... Busta has has a lot of trouble with record labels over the years. That means he has a lot of music that has been what is called "shelved" in the industry... meaning he records a whole album, then gets dropped from the label, and the label holds the music and never releases it. I will also say, that while Busta is a technically superior rapper in terms of delivery and flow and voice/cadence, his content is pretty surface level. He does not (often) get deep into his emotions or tell many stories (other than crime related stories). I've heard another quote from Busta saying "I love doing this because when I step in the booth I get to become who ever I want to be" - he's creating a character, not sharing his inner most vulnerabilities. Also I think his albums (and you can say this about most rap alums after 1996) lack a cohesive sound. I personally would love to hear an entire album from Busta produced by one producer, ideally Q-Tip!

Even though 2Pac is my favorite of all time hands down, Nas is second in line to me. Blew the doors of hip hop with his first tape at a very young age in '94 with knowledge and mature raps. A life full of music and he is still here making great music for all generations. I have a lot of names in mind after that, like Ice Cube, who was a power house in his youth, writing lyrics for NWA and what a solo career he had. LL Cool J, one of the originators back in the day and he is still here for us.
