This fish was developed by Ken Kennedy, a wizard in genetics. I used to visit his place when he was still tinkering with these angels early 2000 but even then he insisted that they be labelled pinoyangels before he released them. He was also obsessed in trying to perfect the delta wing-shaped fins. His father, Earl Kennedy, was a pioneer in philippine aquarium trade and was one of the first aquarist to successfully breed the clownfish in captivity. He was featured in TFH in the 60s. BTW, father and son are Chinese-Filipinos but Chinoys for some reason have a penchant for naming themselves after American presidents

This is some really cool info. I reached out to him for this video but he declined. I'm glad you mentioned the Delta wing because I thought that was a defining trate but now I see all kinds of dorsal fins labeled as a pinoy so thank you for clearing that up.

OK, so I understand what you're saying about shifty breeders. However, which ethical and honest breeder would you suggest that I buy these from? I love the Pinoy Paraibas that have a dark base color and have orange/bronze, green, and blue irridescence.

I forgot the exact name of the groups name but if you look up "pinoy angelfish" on Facebook. You will find pinoy angelfish groups that have first hand experience with true pinoy breeders. I normally stay away from Facebook but in doing this video I looked into some of them and was pleased to see how helpful they was about there experience and where they got there pinoys from. I would check their

I agree 100% especially with your rant, there are too many fancy pants names on these fish to add a few bucks. It's also hard to know exactly what you have when you buy young fish. I bought what was sold to me as a Peruvian Altums, turns out they were just baby silvers. Your run of the mill Scalare. It's a real dirty part of the hobby.

PB is not considered a color. It is an expression of iridescence that gives the appearance of blue. I.e. blue color. At least that is what I learned from a podcast that was talking to Angels Plus. You probably all should know who that is I think. It was a great podcast.

Really appreciate the video. I just ordered some angels and it was very confusing to me! How old does an angel have to be for someone to be able to visibly see if it's a pinoy? Full adult?

It's hard to tell. Some angelfish develop the blue at different times

We're all mutts. I definitely live in a mutt state. Most angels are mutts . But I like to refer to them as blended . Ocalion Angels 🤟

Zebra and PB are two different genes. A pure zebra is not a blue. However you can have both of them on the same fish.

Pinoy translates to, originating or coming from the Philippines. That, is the direct translation of the word Pinoy. So, to say I got a Pinoy from the Philippines, is foolish . The Pinoy, was developed by a retired Philippine Dr, who's name escapes right now. What, sets this strain apart is the high expression of blue and or blue/green melanophores ( pigmentations ) and a number of combinations, there of.
