I was only nine years old when this song was released. Every time I heard it on the radio I turned inside out.

Buster Brown is the Truth. My dad saw Buster Brown perform back in the 60s at Ben’s Cotten club on Frelinghuysen Avenue in Elizabeth New Jersey. He said the whole place was rocking. Wish I could’ve been there. RIP BUSTER BROWN.

My nana was his neighbor and he used to sing to her and her family. I think of her when I hear this.

I saw BB at the Washington, D.C. Apollo Theater in about 1961, he tore the house down. My buddy and I were the only white boys in the room but it was about the music

I got Fannie Mae second hand from a car boot sale, and this is what's on the b-side. Love this version of the song, it's got so much energy!

the closest beside Elvin Bishop's version, that gets close to becoming a Rock n Roll sound rather than the old blues tune that it is.

He made this song his own. I have to admid I like this raw cover even more than the Louis Jordan classic. Maybe because I never heard this song done this before but 1000 times in the Louis Jordan style (no fault of Jordan of course)

This came out the year I joined the service - (06/59-06/'62) - Yes, there was a lot of good music back then and some real lousy junk too. It's the same in every age, whether we admit it or not. As a friend of mine that I played guitar with, Billy Roberts (Google him) used to say: "Thats why they mark towels 'His' and 'Hers'. Everybody's different."

"He made this song his own." Literally -- he just about sets a record here for ignoring original chords and melody.

I see this video sponsored by Airport Home Appliances and mattresses which is where you will find the largest selection of mattresses and Appliance Brandt in Northern California. Does this mean that this video is only available in Northern California? If not then those of you watching this video outside of Northern California, I guess you guys got to contact a travel agent and head up to Northern California to shop there.

@pontiacgpuk This is not the original. It's a 40's song so this is actually a remake. The original by Louis Jordan is good too! :-)

@PC160 Slim Harpo was influenced by JIMMY REED not Buster Brown. Both Jimmy Reed & Slim Harpo were about the same age and both harmonica rack-players who played guitar at the same time. They both wrote their own songs. They did not play the harp and mixed it with a hollering. I think Buster Brown had that in common with Sonny Terry plus the raw vocal style where Slim Harpo was a rather smooth vocalist.

"he just about sets a record here for ignoring original chords and melody" This is proably meant as a negative comment. But this is no written down classical piece of music and it was not uncommon to do so I doubt he set any record with changing chord progression, lyrics etc. Elvis did it with Baby lets playhouse & many other songs & bluesmusicians did it all the time.As long as it turns into good music I do not care:-)
