PART 1) What is this clip from? Who is this guy?
PART 2) Why do so many people agree with him?
Hi there! I am glad that we both enjoy Osho quotes. In order to preserve the historical and comedic value of the clip, I refrained from adding in-video commentary. Instead, I will explain this clip here, in the video description.
PART 1)
This clip features Osho, an Indian spiritual teacher who was born as Rajneesh Chandra Mohan in 1931 and passed away in 1990. He is considered one of the most controversial spiritual teachers of the 20th century, known for his revolutionary teachings that combined Eastern spirituality and Western individualism.
Osho's teachings emphasized the importance of meditation, mindfulness, and self-discovery as a means to achieving spiritual liberation. He encouraged his followers to embrace their desires and to challenge societal norms, which sometimes led to criticism and controversy.
Despite the controversy surrounding Osho and his communes (he tried to poison people, see en.wikipedia.o..., his teachings continue to inspire many people around the world. He is regarded as one of the most innovative spiritual teachers of the 20th century, and his books on spirituality, meditation, and personal growth remain popular. Osho's legacy is also reflected in the growth of meditation and mindfulness practices in the Western world, and his teachings continue to influence new generations of spiritual seekers.
This clip was from • OSHO: Is Democracy the... (0:55 - 1:20), one of Osho's televised speeches from 1981. His talks covered a wide range of topics including spirituality, religion, philosophy, psychology, and politics. I highly recommend checking out the OSHO International channel and the 2018 series, "Wild Wild Country" for more content on Osho!
PART 2)
Let me preface this by saying: many of the comments under this video are worrying. People take this clip as if it's definite truth, when it's the furthest from. Commentors have several main points about people being "retarded", but it usually boils down to:
Ignorance or lack of information: People may assume that voters are uninformed or ignorant about the issues at hand. This perception can arise from observing instances where voters seem unaware of key details or rely on misinformation. However, it's essential to remember that not all voters fit this description, as many take the time to research and educate themselves before casting their votes.
Cognitive biases: Humans are prone to cognitive biases, which can affect decision-making processes. These biases can lead to individuals making choices that may not align with their best interests or objectively supported positions. This can sometimes give the impression that voters are making unintelligent decisions. However, it is crucial to recognize that biases are not unique to voters and can affect individuals across various contexts.
Simplified political discourse: Political campaigns and media coverage often simplify complex issues for mass consumption. This simplification can lead to a superficial understanding of topics, oversimplification of policy proposals, and polarized debates. When voters engage with these simplified narratives, they may appear less informed or unintelligent. However, it's important to recognize that the simplicity of the discourse is a result of various factors, including the need to communicate messages effectively to a wide audience.
It's important to approach this topic with nuance and avoid generalizing all voters as "retarded." The reality is that voters are a diverse group of individuals with varying levels of knowledge, beliefs, and perspectives. While some voters may be uninformed or make choices that others deem irrational, it is essential to foster dialogue and encourage civic education to promote an informed and engaged electorate.
If you really wanted to educate or sway people onto your side of the political spectrum, you should treat voters better -- they're still people. To really make a difference you need to lay out all of the facts without bias.

That was technically Plato. He used Socrates as a character in his writings to express his OWN views. You aren't quoting socrates nor is plato. Plato rarely quoted Socrates. Instead he was a character which differed from the real world Socrates in a lot of ways, 40 books or something by Plato he uses socrates as a character to push his own version of Socratic philosophy. It was ancient greece. Naming a character after the person that inspired it was a thing.

And that’s why the education system in the US is purposely abysmal. As George Carlin eloquently put it: “They don’t want a population of citizens capable of critical thinking. They don’t want well informed, well educated people capable of critical thinking. They’re not interested in that. That doesn’t help them. Thats against their interests. Thats right. They don’t want people who are smart enough to sit around a kitchen table to figure out how badly they’re getting f*ckef by a system that threw them overboard 30 f*cking years ago. They don’t want that. You know what they want? They want obedient workers. People who are just smart enough to run the machines and do the paperwork, and just dumb enough to passively accept all these increasingly shittier jobs with the lower pay, the longer hours, the reduced benefits, the end of overtime and the vanishing pension that disappears the minute you go to collect it, and now they’re coming for your Social Security money. They want your retirement money. They want it back so they can give it to their criminal friends on Wall Street, and you know something? They’ll get it. They’ll get it all from you, sooner or later, 'cause they own this f*cking place. It's a big club, and you ain’t in it.”

America is a republic moreso than a democracy which tends to be a better system. Regardless, what he says applies to all of humanity as a whole, but more specifically to western society who tends to like using or emphasizing Democracy.
@The-Enemy-Medic
@The-Enemy-Medic 26 күн бұрын
@@queuedjar4578 Republic is not a better system than democratic, as you can see by the current state of United States. Allowing people to only elect representatives rather than vote themselves about the laws and regulations that will be passed on them, makes it so that those who are elected to represent the people can be brought out, paid out and shut out. It doesn't help that to even be eligible to become a representative you need millions of dollars to get up there, and naturally, people who spend so much money getting up there want to make more money than they lost before their term is up. This leads to them accepting "donations" bribery and outright sponsorships that will fill their pocket with money, and in return all they have to do is to not do the right thing. If every individual was given the right to vote on state laws, the rich wouldn't have enough money to buy out everyone's vote, therefore people could vote with their minds, rather than the current system we have where, it doesn't matter if you elect red or blue, the outcome is always war despite everyone crying for peace.

its funny cause socrates said that, less bluntly, a LONG time ago. Democracy is only as efficient as its citizens are educated, but the thing is, higher education is RARELY sought after. And I don't mean a 4 year graduates degree for agriculture or the other nonsensical forced educational standards that used to be inherited trades, I mean, higher studies like philosophy and STEM fields. If everyone had the necessary education to vote properly, we would spend 3/4 of our lives in school that's why we rely on well educated individuals to represent us, but that's clearly going down the fucking shitter based on allowing actors and people who have zero political education to rise to positions of authority in the government.
@posesepulu3771

@@CircumcisionIsChildAbuse Yup. That’s why critical thinking course are so rare these days. Nobody wants to truly learn anything other than force fed education which relies mostly on memorization rather than deeper analysis. But either way the education system is failing
@CircumcisionIsChildAbuse
@CircumcisionIsChildAbuse 2 жыл бұрын
@@posesepulu3771 i think that's a hefty responsibility to lay entirely on the education system. You can have the most passionate teachers, the most over qualified professionals, but how on earth do you teach a kid to WANT to understand, or teach a kid to be inspired? How do you teach kids to give a shit? When you teach kids chemistry, they don't realize its literally the study of what makes up EVERYTHING, or when they study english class and they go, "we already know english why do we need to learn it more?" how do you teach them those are the skills that will make them better human beings? That if they were to master a fraction of it, their entire lives would improve and that there wouldn't be anyting they couldn't handle? Teaching kids that in a period of time when they're going through puberty and learning not only curriculum standards but SOCIAL skills...yeah, good luck, the fact that ANY kid comes out of it with a healthy understanding is a miracle. There needs to be MUCH more access for those kids who DID give a shit to have a better chance at going to university, because 3/4 of the kids who go to college are brain dead and barely got through high school meanwhile the under privileged kid who is supported by the minimum wage single mother who has the highest grades in school gets left behind to work mcdonalds. I think better access to therapy and counsel would improve things. Cause some teachers try to do it all, be a therapist and counsellor, a parent to the kids who have no parents at home, and an educator and they get worn thin. I had an english teacher who was AWESOME, but she was burdened because of her compassion to deal with neurotic teens going through difficulties and suicidal teens, you name it she spent the extra time to talk because there was no one else to do it. But then we see kids shooting up their schools and they don't give a shit as to WHO the kids were, or why they felt compelled to do it or their lack of social supports. No teachers submitting those massive red flags that signal that a child is deranged or needs serious therapy. Education is one thing, social supports are almost non-existent now. Kids are left to the dogs online to be exposed to the venom of the world through online social settings instead of compassionate real world mentors and parents and teachers and role models. It's a lot more than just education.

@@billfred9411 Indeed. Idealized democracy, where every (or, at least most every) person makes well-reasoned, informed decisions and is politically and socially aware is great. Sadly, without that, you just end up with something more closely resembling rule of the mob where you wind up going to war with your neighbour because someone told you they took all the ice cream. What we have in most western countries is "democracy", that is, with a shitload of provisions, checks, and balances (i.e. red tape) that smooth the curve a bit such that anyone r*tarded enough to do any real damage with their vote is usually filtered without even realizing; sadly this also leads to there existing a mechanism to filter out people with radical/undesirable opinions that are nonetheless well-informed i.e. loopholes so easily created and exploited by those in high positions that the term becomes almost meaningless imo. Of *course* we have democracy! If we didn't, well then you wouldn't be able to choose between which of these two parties you want every few years now would you, silly!
