Grifter not being playable was a bad call as Grifter was essentially the fan-favorite member of the team mostly because he was the badass masked gunslinger of the team

If you think that's bad look up Cyblade from Cyber Force. Zealot had a similar look to Pcylocke, but at least her abilities were different. Cyblade is seriously a "copy paste" of Psylocke.

Psylocke was that girl. Mother of ninja/swordfighter sexpots in the 90's comic books

I had that Grifter action figure too, it was in a two-pack that came with a Daemonite figure as well.

Evidently, they're dangerous for him to use. Like they actually pose a risk to him mentally and everyone around him physically.

@@warbossgegguz679 fair enough. Wildcats just never came across as a ripoff to me when I was young. I was surprised people say backlash is a spiderman ripoff. Never worked for me on that end either

@@liesureleeminis8268 I mean it may not at first or to kids that don't know much better, but the fact that Jim Lee and Liefeld were the main writers of the early 90s X-Men just before leaving to form Image with McFarlan makes the "inspiration" much more apparent. And in the case of Youngbloods, while I can't find any history of Liefeld working on Teen Titans, it was well known for being a huge fan (hence Deadpool being a blatant ripoff of Deathstroke among others). the Similarities between Spawn and Ghost Rider are mainly in the core concept (dude enters a faustian contract for the sake of their loved ones and becomes the devil's enforcer) and certain aspects of the characters (both using chains as their main weapon and the comics naturally having a darker tone) McFarlan was easily the one of of the three who's artistic talents extended into his writing abilities. Thankfully Lee is at least still a fantastic artist so he didn't become a laughing stock like Liefeld.

They're just aliens. And in usual "secret alien invasion" style, they could look like anyone.

to be fair, it was only one of the weaker titles during the early period when it was still drawn by lee himself and penned by brandon choi. alan moore had a later run on the book in the mid-90s that is actually incredibly solid and kind of underrated, and since then the title has almost always had strong creative teams behind it that made a book that was way better than it's under-the-radar status would indicate. it's just during this early "boom" period of Image when Lee was trying to market the shit out of the title with the animated show and all of that other stuff when the title was this really shlocky, shallow superhero book.

@@YourEvilHenchman I'm only just now going back and re-reading all the early Image stuff for my channel, and it's pretty amazing how much I forgot. I didn't remember Moore's run on the series, but it will be nice when I get to those issues because the early ones can be a real chore to read. It's honestly amazing how popular WildC.A.T.S got though despite being such a tough read. Personally I think that Stormwatch was by far the better Wildstorm team comic in terms of story and unique characters. Sadly I was either in the minority, or Lee was just dead set on pushing WildC.A.T.S to the moon and Stormwatch never saw the kind of love that I thought it deserved.

You're not at all wrong. Wildcats just wasn't that good.

@@MrYuck-ec5do I honestly think it had a lot to do with the execution more than anything. The story in the early issues was an absolute mess, and there was a real lack of flow to the books. Character motivation was often times cryptic at best, and the page layouts were really hard to follow at times. The characters weren't super original, but they were interesting enough to be serviceable. It really feels as though Lee knew all the things he needed to make a successful comic, he just didn't know how to put them together the right way.

@@YourEvilHenchman Volume 2 was great and Wildcats 3.0 were fantastic. Real hidden gems nowadays I suppose. Really good series though.
