This video shares 16 at home activities you can do with your toddler. I’ve been working on this video for too long. But, with many people stuck at home, I hustled to finally get it done! I originally started this post with 1-year-olds in mind. That’s how old my little guy is. But, many of these will work for 2 and even 3-year-olds as well.

Tips for Playing with 1-Year-Olds
Model the Activity: Very often you’ll need to model an activity for a toddler. We can’t always just put it in front of them an expect they know what to do. Show your child the way to play with it and then offer it back.
Parallel Play - Parallel play can often help extend the length of time your little one plays. Parallel play is when you see two kids playing next to each other but not actually with each other. You can mimic that same thing by “playing” to encourage them to continue playing with whatever toy they have.
At their level tables and shelves - It’s super helpful to make your space accessible for your little one. Having toy shelves that are right at their level is ideal. It’s also great if you have a toddler-height table for them to use. It’s a little more expensive, but I also really love using a learning tower, which allows kids to stand at counter-height in the kitchen to play and do activities.

Thank you for these ideas. I let my 3 year old play in the sink yesterday with simple kitchen things. She couldn't stop playing after two hours! The funnel was her favorite. You're right, kids love water.

I did a similar thing as the kleenex boxes when my daughter was a baby... She used to be OBSESSED with pulling wipes out of the containers, like every single time she found one.. So i saved an plastic reusable wipe container, after it was empty, put letter stickers on the side that said "Arya's wipes", and my mom (who is a quilter) sewed a whole bunch of 5×5 inch pieces of scrap fabric together to make "wipes". She loved it, could play with it forever

I love this video! I really appreciate the tips at the beginning. As a first time mum and having no experience with kids at all I sometimes struggle to get my son to play with things initially. But it's because I'm not showing him! I know that sounds bad but I'm reluctant to show him too much because I thought he'd always want to go first 😂 I thought he didn't like messy play but really I think it's just because don't always show him first! I also didn't realise about playing next to him rather than with him. Poor boy probably thinks I'm taking over 😂

My 2yr old son loves doing kitchen activities, we give him some tasks to try, washing, rinsing, drying. He loves it! Always good to follow their lead, later on they wont be offering! :')

Wow this video came in perfect time huh with the libraries and play centers it's been rough. And it kinda doesn't help that my son can't walk yet. Thanks for sharing. Definitely some great n different ideas to do with my toddler. Love ur videos my son is 2 n loves getting surprises. So what I do is use any little toys or just little items around the house n put it in his surprise egg. He always has a blast n gets excited. We do the kitchen thing too sometimes! Put a little bit of flour in a mixing bowl with a spoon for the kids while I’m cooking :)

Hello! Wonderful encouragement and tips for young moms. I stayed at home with my baby boy ( now 24 - the years fly!) I am 60 and my "baby boy" has graduated college and is now teaching middle school English at the very school where he spent his K-12th grade years. My cousin is now 26 months old and I am 12. Meaning,There is a 10 year age gap between the two of us and a lot of times a actually babysit him together with my 10 year old sister. Whenever we do we like to play with new things he hasn’t tried before and teach him everyday things: for example we taught him how to brush his teeth, to pick up his toys, put trash into the trash can and so on. We needed some new ideas and when I looked at your video, it really helped a lot. Thanks a lot 🤍
