Buttermilk Trail Hike Richmond, Virginia

We will be in Richmond in September to visit our son. Do you have a favorite hiking trail around the Richmond area? We will be day hiking . Any suggestions on a place to stay ?

There is a tree house in downtown Richmond on airbnb that is right on the buttermilk or northbank trail. (I think it may be a bit pricey). There aren't great outdoorsy places in downtown. Both of those trail combines makes a loop around 9 miles. In between them is the James River. Belle Island is a great hike that takes you around an island on the James. In that same area is Browns Island and you can walk around the canal walk. Texas Beach is a hidden gem, that is great. Pipeline Trail is really unique. I have videos on all of these, they are a bit older. But if you go to my KZfaq channel page and look at playlist, I have one titled Richmond. If you have any other questions, just let me know. I’ve never walked this trail before and I’ve walked a lot of trails in Richmond.

You gotta do this one then! LOL! It connects to so many other trails. Have you done the flood wall trail? Its right next to it and continues down the river.

@@SelfTaughtWeightloss Yes, its under Hikes in Richmond on my channel page. Pumphouse Park, Maymont, the Pipeline, Belle Isle, The North Bank Trail hikes are all under that category. Flood wall has awesome views of the river and downtown.

Thanks for posting! Where would be a good place to park if I wanted to do this with my family for a short hike? I have 5 kids and am pregnant so I didn’t want to do the full 5 miles, but wanted the kids to see a lot of the rocks and creeks too!

You could park at the Reddy Creek Park lot on Riverside Drive, right below Forest Hill Park. The tunnel that you can walk through is just the right of the parking lot (if your facing the parking lot & river is in front of you) The kids would like exploring them. Then I would go left from the parking lot to see the cool rocks and just stop and come back whenever you like. Hope that helps!
