Another treasure from way back when...I still remember hearing this on UNH in Durham's radio show. Brings back a lot of great memories.

I still have my original copy of this, purchased when it came out. This was the era of spoken word albums mixed with "alternative" music. This was the era of Research Magazine and Mark Pauline's machines.

@@peterdonley2689 And from Double Live, Psychadelic Jam, and Paranoid, and is it Backass? - just monumental and what ended up on Piough'ed and Hairway a pale imitation. Did you know Kuntz is an Issan folk song in a Thai dialect with traditional instruments? The lyrics: 'There is fate, who is to say whether good or bad; there is fate but why does it have to itch?' Kun - itch. LOL. Virtuosos, evil, evil geniuses XD

Likely has to do with your age and exposure. Most people who had or knew of this album/cassette are my age middle 40 to early 50’s. We were righteously reared on this divine work. We speak in tongues Its the lifeblood of our destination our endless experience.

@@BushyHairedStranger im only recently 19 and id say the surfers r my fav band and have been for about a year or two, and its definetely an interesting experience hopping across live show bootlegs from the 80s and seeing the comment sections full of 40-60 yr olds reminiscing of their youth. its kind of inspiring how this silly insanity band is able to speak to people across generations despite its nature

Probably from the Locust Abortion Technician sessions if I had to guess (liner notes on this comp say it was recorded October 1986, which is about the same timeframe that album was recorded)

@WormTyrant I still rate this the BHS's as one of the best live shows I have ever seen. I was pretty disappointed in their appearance @ the first Lollapalooza, but it wasn't their fault...The BHS's are a club band and not a huge stage show imo. I probably would lose my shit if I ever heard Boiled Dove live as well as a few other tracks :)

The live shows were so totally absorbing I found party favors distracting...just needed a belly full of beer, the Surfer insanity for 3 hours, then a clove cigarette in the parking lot afterward. I recall one show watching a bearded, green body painted glow in the dark go-go dancer spazzing out while naked Gibby poured lighter fluid over a symbol and then repeatedly smashing it with a mallet, sending fireballs into the air. Behind him, on the movie screen, a penis was being operated on in reverse slow motion, while exotic aquarium fish montages were super imposed over the surgery. Who needed chemically induced hallucinations when they were being professionally delivered to you live?

What was the point of this compilation? Was it all spoken word music?
@ogivecrush4 жыл бұрын
Point? I'm not sure there WAS one.....a very strange mix of pretty avant-garde stuff....good for listening to while on LSD. I bought the LP new in '87- it had 10 tracks but the CD has 13. Was a combination of spoken-word and just strange music. Released by Giorno Poetry Systems.
