On a side note…I just started getting 2023 pricing. Looks like a 20% reduction from 2022. Really needed to be 30% imo

There’s so much excess inventory of high quality Bordeaux at competitive pricing the 2023’s will have little or no impact in the market. All the Bordelais did was to lower the 2023 prices to the 2021’s.

Looking at my notes I had 2 bottles of the 1982 Poujeaux and drank them on 10/92 & 3/96. My '96 notes were that it was best the 1st day (I only drink half a bottle then store in a split for a few days later) dark, full body, good core of fruit and at peak. I gave it a 90, and I'm very stingy with my ratings. In '92 I gave it a 86+ and I noted that they would be good until 2,000. At my peak I had 1,000 or so bottles. I'm getting old now and have around 250 bottles. I have found through the years that I would rather drink a bottle too soon than too late. I'm enjoying the 2009 Haut-Bally at the moment.

Sound advice. Especially when it comes to checking out your inventory. I've been commenting about that recently because I have a lot of good wine that really needs opening. Trouble is finding the right occasion but I'm realising there's no such thing. Crack open a good one with your pasta tonight or pot of Spanish lentils. Just open the stuff. We can't take it with us to the great decanter in the sky.

Lately I’ve been making sure to open up several special bottles each month (even if my wine friends are too busy to show up). Make yourself the special guest who deserves that great wine.

Beware, indeed. I bought 3 expensive bottles that all turned nasty corked wines upon opening, they went to the sink. The seller knew about it and never returned my calls. Part of the joys and sorrows of wine collecting...

Was there seepage? There's no way for anyone to know a wine is corked until it's opened. I would suggest they were improperly cellared.

@@JackAgainski Very true. No seepage, I guess they were stored in a really bad environment, but then again the labels were pristine, cork tends to absorb off smells over time, but this much is quite unusual. I once witnessed a crazy guy storing gasoline alongside his wine bottles, he was adamant it's OK.
