I bought a TX1 5 years ago - it’s black, it’s so icon, we’ve never going to sell. or scrap her. I paid £600 for it and yes, it took ages to find decent insurance. Yes, it does need maintenance, but the 2.7 litre Nissan has done 340k. What is remarkable is the almost mint condition of the upholstery and the comfort. It has most mod cons which one would expect from a 2001 car. - you won’t get a near side ramp, intercoms and 26’ turning circle with a people mover, or one that is definitely a London black handsome Cab, Funny you mentioned XJ Jag, my car is a 2012 Portfolio, with only 48k on the clock - I like this cr very much as well, but of course I am often reminded that I could have bought a brand new this or that for what it cost me, but so?

Thanks so much for your comment. I really appreciate it. I am glad that you have had such a good experience with your TX1. I think that they are great cars, especially if you want a ramp. I hope that you keep watching and I look forward to hearing from you again. There is more Jaguar content on it's way.

Wow! I forgot that I had seen this, and was about to say similar comment to previous one, thanks for the kind reply. An update: Since then we had to replace the automatic transmission, I Hunted around amd found a great chap in Barking who did an exchange for a very decent price. Anyway, insurance-wise, I have struck a good deal with Aviva, who now cover both cars for just over £500, but it does go up marginally every year. Those Nissan engines seem bulletproof. I will now check out your other videos - we seen to have similar interests in cars! I am not sure about pink, but it certainly stands out. Cheers Richard D.

You could always try contacting a taxi fleet owner who might be getting rid of some of their older rental TX4's. Having said that the best version of the taxi Carbodies / LTI (London Taxis International / LTC (the London taxi Company, same company different names over the years) have made, imo, was the "Fairway" series version of the FX4, especially the "Fairway Driver" iteration as that had front disc brakes as opposed to drum all the way round. But they finished production well over twenty years ago now. The engine fitted was the venerable Nissan 2.7 TD which was transferred over to the first TX series taxi known as, unsurprisingly, the TX1, and was referred to by most cab drivers nationwide (not just London) as bullet proof. The company is now called LEVC after it was taken over by a (you've guessed it) Chinese company called Geely, and apart from other companies in their fold they also own Volvo. LEVC stands for the London Electric Vehicle Company and their latest model taxi is the hybrid electric / petrol TXE, diesel is now history.

@@DannsBangers You're welcome, by the way a bit more info. After the TX1 model with the Nissan engine which was brought over from the "Fairway" FX4 series the TX2 follow up had the doubtful Ford Duratorq engine (timing chain issues plus rather noisy even for a diesel engine) and after that the model number went straight to the TX4 (there was no TX3 but not to be confused with the FX3 from the 1950's) it had some body revisions including notably a bigger front radiator grill. The TX4 basically had two engines in its life, firstly the VM Motori 2.5 litre euro 4 then it was updated to euro 5 compliance. The last version of the TX4 had a more powerful version of a VM Motori engine which was a 2.8 litre and was euro 6 compliant, all diesel by the way. As an aside power steering became standard in the earlier versions of the famous shaped FX4 taxi which was before the Fairway series but still years behind ordinary cars. Such was the stupid and archaic ways of the then London licensing regime known as the PCO, the Public Carriage Office, in respect of eventually allowing it under the London COF...Conditions Of Fitness. Now the reason why it took so long for the purpose built taxi in London to get power steering.... you won't believe this.... was because of the tight turning circle on a London type taxi and the pen pushing morons considered that a driver might flip the cab over if he or she turn too quickly too fast. To say they were, and to some extent still are, antediluvian is an understatement. They are now called LTPH, London Taxis & Private Hire, the reason for the name change... the minicabs as they were known then were unlicensed but they were eventually licensed some twenty years ago as PHV's.... Private Hire Vehicles (and the drivers) hence the name change. Ok i'm off for a cup of tea and a biccy.... that's a biscuit.

U can get a TX1, TX2 and TX4 cheaper now because of the 10 year rule local authorities are bringing in now. So eBay is the best option to buy a 10 to 15 year old taxi! But the mileage on these will be over 500k! Now's the time in Edinburgh to buy one cos there are 100s being put of the road by December 2021! My licensed TX4 is a 09 plate one owner and it's in great condition and would run faithful for at least another 5 years as a licensed taxi buy am forced to buy a new one and will have to sell it in November!

Oh! Just called Churchill to insure my 2010 TX4 ex London taxi and.....guy says policy is DECLINED due to nature of vehicle. Mentioned guy above going Churchill and he replied 'well I can't see how they managed to get insurance as once the system tells me DECLINED there Is no option no way of me overriding system, so unfortunately we will not be able to insure you'!!!!!! Did guy above in this post REALLY get insured by Churchill?

I’ve had two paid £800 for mine, manual transmission and faultless . 300,000 miles . One thing I’d advise is don’t buy vinyl wrapped , it’s horrible to remove, pulls the paint off really easy, also covers a multitude of sins , my first one was rotten .

Thanks so much for the comments. Yeah, they can be a pain. My clutch also failed. They guy who bought mine removed the vinyl but yeah I agree to try to find one that isn't wrapped.

I think point 5 should be ‘should i bother?’

This video assumes that the answer to that is yes. My review video will be about "should you bother to get one". The answer may surprise you! It probably won't though.

Yeah, I would suggest you pay a bit more and get a lower mileage one but even then it is probably going to be over 200k miles.

If you ever decide to unwrap the cab I wonder what colour it will be underneath
@DannsBangers
@DannsBangers 3 жыл бұрын
Well, I am not going to unwrap the car because it's new owner (yes, I have sold it) wanted a pink cab. It is navy blue underneath though. I am going to do the review video with it when the weather is nice as the new owner is a friend of mine.

Hi regarding the tx2 mine goes up hills at 20 mph it has the ford transit engine in it is that normal
@DannsBangers
@DannsBangers 3 жыл бұрын
It shouldn't be that bad as those engines should have plenty of torque. The TX4 had plenty of go as long as it was kept under 60mph. Maybe someone who has a TX2 can help you

@@DannsBangers i agree if the tax was lower ,it would be perfect for so many reasons . cheap parts etc , like anything you have to way up its costs per year . mind you it would be still interesting to know how many miles you get to the gallon and to the tank. full to empty

@@ArtyVanHoming That is a good point that I missed. This is all a learning experience for me. To answer your question. It isn't great on fuel. But I can't know exactly as the odometer is broken but I recon (as my journey to work and back is 57 miles mainly by motorway) that I was getting less than 30MPG. I used about 1/3rd of a tank there and back.
