7:20 Is false. Funny how shady manufacturers try to confuse the layman to skirt ratings/conception. Let me just say, DON'T USE mAH rating. Use WH instead. Reason? Because it takes into account of VOLTAGE. There's no easy way to know the voltage for mAH, unless the manufacturer is transparent. Steam deck uses 5313mAH AT 7.7V

This is helpful. Was almost going to get a 30W charger for my ROG Ally but I realize that isn't quite fast enough and the battery would drain while charging.

Watt hours is handy cos you can estimate battery life. Eg. Running a system at 10W with a 40WHr battery would give you roughly up to 4hrs battery life. 20W would be up to 2hrs etc...

Rog ally cant run at 10w. For instance minimum apu package power u can set is 9w. Therefore 9w + 6-8w(screen,fans,other hardware). Now you can use that formula wh/watts.

If expecting to use in turbo mode when docked along with inputs, external storage and HDMI output. 65W PS is probably not enough.

Any pd cable is fine even if it’s rated for less than 140 like 60 or 90 I have had no issues with my MacBook taking over 100 watts of charge from a cheap Walmart pd cable rated for 65 watt fast charge

I bought 737 thinking it was a big PB in discounted price (like 30-40% off due to black friday + they are being discontinued) that I might need in niche situation not even realizing that this is what everyone use for PC handheld PB. Kinda regret not buying the new gen, but they are really expensive (old 737 24kmAh, new 737 27mAh).

1:56 you’re not gonna get 4 charges from that power bank. It’s roughly 90wh against 40wh on the SD and ally. 2 charges max. Mah isn’t an accurate comparison due to nominal voltages

If you're running a dock with things plugged in, like keyboard, mouse, etc, you may want to go with a 100W device since the Ally will take up to 65w. I've seen videos where they used a 65w power bank but the Ally could not run at full power because the dock was taking some of the power.

Yes it had hours of battery life because it consumed less power. We could make a pc handheld with as much nattery life as a ps vita. It would either have a large laptop battery that with make it weigh multiple kgs or we could make it drain extremly little power that would tank the performance. So ye set your ally to a 1w tdp and your good to go 30 hours of battery life and 1 frame 144p lowest settings :)

This is a nice power bank but it's overkill for the Ally. It's meant more for a gaming laptop. I rather get a 30,000mAh+ at 65W for a way cheaper price.

Nothing is "overkill" for the ally. That battery is done on a AAA title in like 50 minutes.

@@johnnyrodriguez276 ya need to onli play the Ally on 15W or 18W when using the power bank if you are expecting good battery life. If you know you're only needing to play it for 2 hours or so with a power bank then yeah sure go right ahead with Turbo mode at 25W or even 30W if that works.

I use a simple realpower powerbank with 20 W and 20.000mah atm. Ordered a baseues 65W on sale for 50 bucks but it was broken (doa). I got the money not a new one but now it costs 70 bucks. I would prefer anker here. I often read on amazon that they get broken ones (from baseus). The simple 20w realpower powerbank works like a charm. I mostly play at 15-20w. It still use some power from the ally but very slowly (at 15w). Ofc with 25w it is another Story. On 15 watt i played 2 hours, the powerbank had still 50% and my Asus 89%.So i would say i could play 4 hours with it.

Thanks for this vid. What im still confused about is, for instance, i have a new 65w 20,000mAh power bank from Amazon. Also have the same 100w USB-C cable as you. I pre-ordered the ROG Ally and wondering if the USB-C port combined with the cable can actually hit 65w to charge the Ally. I tried it on my 45w phone and it was only charging at 16-17w the whole time from dead to 100%? Can you explain why im not getting the 45w i get with my traditional wall outlet 45w charger?

So this depends on the device but for the batteries health the device usually will only allow it to be charged so fast if that makes sense. Certain batteries are made to have "fast charge" like my old motorola phone i had had fast charge but then my other phone I got later didn't. It's all up to the manufacturer. I am almost certian you will get the 65 watts to the Ally when it comes 👍

Watt hours is the better way to look at it when it comes to portable drvices, especially when your talking about watts consumed and its easier to calvulate as well, still good start on videos

And you forget about dock stations - if you want to use them with ROG Ally (for connecting peripherals, more storage, faster and stable LAN connection etc.), you need MORE than default 65W. Ttat's the reason to trash away bundled charger and buy 100W one.

a bit overkill honestly, rog ally only take PD3.0 charging, it won't take PD3.1 charging speed. better to get a larger capacity with 65W charging speed rather than over 100W speed for the same amount of money

I mean there’s merits to a faster bank provided it charges itself at that speed. A 100w out 65w in wouldn’t be worth it, but 100 out you’re only using 65 of would recharge faster provided it has 100 in

I tried this route with a 30000 milliamp 65 w beerus The Ally did not like the 65 w it wouldn't treat it for turbo mode at 30 w it reduced it to a 25 W so whoever is reading this comment and seen mine just go with the power bank in the video or don't touch the 65 w 30k beerus if you want true turbo mode

Batteries have a power efficiency curve, typically the closer you get to the max output capacity, the less efficient the battery is able to deliver the power. The benefit of using something like 140w to charge a 65w device is that you’re under 50 percent of its maximum capacity and therefor, far more likely to be within an efficient battery output curve. Meaning you’re able to take advantage of more of the battery’s overall capacity.

Anker 737 is 86.4 Wh , Ally is 40 Wh . So you can charge the Ally for 2 times to 100%. If you get 2 hour runtime on your ally , you should get total 6 hours with the power bank.

If you put the Ally on the powerfulest performance 30 watt you'll probably get 4 hours out of a 50000 ma playing a game like Diablo 4 on custom low settings at 1080p with uncapped framerate

Probably get 2 full charges. So maybe get 4 hours of gameplay if the ally is charged before. Depends on the game but with a more demanding game I would guess it would extend it 3 hours.

I saw a teardown of the 737 and was disappointed to see 5 lower grade chinese 21700 cells. With 140w input for charging these 5 cells would cop an absolute hiding and doesnt inspire much confidence in terms of longevity. For perspective I run a custom built powerbank that doses only 100w in for charge and uses 8x panasonic 21700 cells and even this gets quite hot. For the money you pay it just doesnt make much sense to me its extremely expensive and will become ewaste.

I have a shargeek storm 2 and an anker 773 power banks both capable of more than 65w output or at least 65W, I cant get the ally to charge onles the power banks are plugged in, in the case of the storm 2 I cant even use it. I have used both to charge my macbook pro with no issues whatsoever and I cant seem to find the problem why the ally is not accepting the charge.???? any suggestions ???? Also cables are rated for 100W

Have tried turning OFF Asus Batterycare? In the MyASUS app, Head to the Customization tab and turn Battery Care Mode off. This mode ON will only charge the device to 80%, which will reduce wear on the battery over time

24,000mAh for this device looks like a joke to me. I mean - two hours of heavy gameplay instead of ~40 mins is good, but it's nothing when your train ride takes 6 hours for example. This powerbank fits mobile phones better. Yep, more powerful powering device is bigger and more heavy, but it's worth it.

What are you saying? This could charge the ally fully while playing it at full turbo at least once. So you get the 40 initial minutes, the 2 hours it takes to charge while playing and then 40 more minutes on battery. And that’s playing in turbo with screen brightness cranked. This powerbank will work exceptionally well with the rog ally or steam deck imo

@@daftclubs I looked on google, people say they it is allowed on planes and they haven't had trouble bringing it as carry on luggage. The rating printed on the device is 86.4Wh so its good to go. I see other PC handheld channels recommend this power bank while traveling and they haven't had any issues so I think its safe.

you need a 65watt otherwise the device doesnt really charge consider it this way look at the charger packs then come with laptops , these powerpacks are designed to charge laptops@@poopie3405
