Buying a 5ton military dump truck M51 6x6

Жыл бұрынBought this M51 dump truck to do some work on my property and haul logs. Its got the Multifuel diesel engine and a 5 speed transmission. 6 wheel drive, brand new tires and I only paid $5000! stay tuned to see how she works!

Some time ago I use to own a M52A1 which is the semi truck verison of this same series.The A2's were the variants with the LDS-465's but the A1's were built by Mack and had Mack Thermodynes.Some of the A1's were rebuilt into multi fueled A2's. However,I do currently have two M817's under progress which are also dump trucks but from the later series.

Sweet! Yes this is a pretty solid truck, I need to Do some minor repairs to it but it’s been very reliable for what I use it for!

Among other things, these trucks were used in Vietnam for hauling dirt when building air strips at Fire Support Bases.

Thanks for the info! Unfortunately I haven’t been able to find a whole ton of info online I only assumed they were used for building infrastructure in the service. They are definitely tough units!

First thing I would do is. put some greedy boards on the sides of the body Looks like a great addition

I will definitely make a set! For now I’m mainly hauling logs and firewood. I’m plenty happy with the capacity it has. But when it comes time To shift some dirt gonna need side boards!

Hey there new sub today . NICE find with the truck ! I had a newer 5 ton (1985) AM General dump with 14:00/20 Goodyear super singles... You should look into some tire chains for the mud... it'll save you from sliding off the edges when snow and icy too... I like the updated hydraulic valve for the dump... much easier than the old style linkage... what type of fuel are you using being its multi fuel ?

Hey welcome to the channel! its a great truck for sure! fighting a charging issue on it now believe the generator went out on it. I just run offroad red diesel in it, i dont run it a whole lot though. just use it for moving dirt and firewood around the farm here!

I have the same truck(1966). I would like to put the same(updated) hydraulic valve/control on my truck. Can you provide any specs for components? Thanks

Hey I did not install that valve the previous owners did. I will try and get more pictures and maybe some numbers off it Next time I’m near the truck!
