As someone who'd never had a drone before, we bought the mini mavic about a year ago - and it's been so good!! Such a great entry point, and we haven't felt too restricted with the basic model! Would love to upgrade at some stage - but it's a want and not a need! Did you see DJI's new FPV drones - they look insane!

Fantastic, informative video Cam! I bought exactly the same drone and package as you....Mavic Air 2 Fly More. My first drone ever and i am blown away with its capabilities! I'm also an RC pilot and have been building and flying large scale rc planes for over 10 years and you can't actually say that you "fly" these drones! They really fly themselves! Super easy to control with their built in 3 axis gyroscopes and GPS and obstacle avoidance systems. Psycho technology really. It is an absolute pleasure to put up in the air and like you.....along with my rc aircraft which i have MAAA insurance and a licence and club membership for, i will always have a drone in my arsenal! Game changing they are. Super impressed. Thanks for sharing this great video mate and opening up people's eyes to some of the important things regarding drones. You're a legend! Keep up the excellent work Cam.

I'm not trying to insult you by saying you're not flying it, but if you tried to fly a drone or helicopter without gyros you'd be breaking into a sweat just taking off lol. Awesome very well done and just as point of interest I started back in RC video and photography in the mid 90s using RC aircraft and helicopters as I had been flying RC for well over 40 year. Although I got into drones on their conception with the idea of doing video and photography work professionally as a business. I soon gave up on the idea as every man and his dog took up on the same concept, hence the need for Casa to introduce such strict rules $$$. I believe this happened because unlike normal Rc aircraft that took great skill to master, were-as the sophistication and technology of operation systems in drones made it so much easier for people to become competent flyer from day one, compared to normal RC aircraft that took a few years to master. I was actually offended that I would need to hav a license and take a test to continue to do what I had been doing for some time prior to the introduction of drones. Oh well it's all part of life and I am just about to look at getting back into it now the excitement has died down and people have drifted away from the original rush. Just my thoughts Cheers

Been there, stepped in that ourselves!.

I think the mavic pro has a better camera and gimbal setup, giving a greater range of movement of the camera, and is more stable in higher winds. Good video. Alot of people ask for drone recommendations and many people put forth the cheap crap. If you want a drone u obviously enjoy photography so the money has to be spent to get one that utilizes all features that can b afforded to photographic drone use. Dji the only way to go.

Its a feature of the expensive drones. Its a button "follow me". U set the perameters hit the button and it does its thing. Be aware of the surroundings as i crashed my drone on a circling shot of my 4wd on the beach, where i didnt set the height high enough and forgot bout the cliff lol.
@WildTouring

Yeah as Krump said. It’s an intelligent flight mode that you switch on. The mini doesn’t have the feature, but the air and the pro do. To be honest I’ve found it pretty useless on previous models - constantly looses the subject at any speed over 15kph. Have heard the mavic air 2 has improved so looking forward to testing it out.

I think SA has similar rules for flying drones, not allowed in national parks unless you purchase a permit to fly. The Bunda Cliffs on the Nullarbor is a big one for having to have a permit. Lots of people aren’t aware they need a permit to fly their drones over the cliffs for that epic shot.. I’m saving my pennys for one. I have a cheap drone and it’s so hard to fly and control.
@MaxFromSydney1
@MaxFromSydney1 2 жыл бұрын
Paid permits sounds like revenue raising, as much as anything. But as long as the permits can be purchased on the spot, then it doesn’t sound too bad for a tourist passing through. This would be alot better than submitting a form to the NP and waiting a week for No / Yes / Yes but with Restrictions.

G’day mate, nice info thanks. Well i know a lot has changed sine you made that video but the rules for WA which you mentioned seemed to be still in place ( quick glance at the casa website) Question I am about to buy my first DJI Drone ( it’s either the Air 2s or the new Mini 3 Pro ) Either way that night time rule is understandable as you must fly with the Drone always in line of sight 🥴🤷‍♂️. However I will be in the middle of bum fuck in WA and need to fly sometime at night to spot intruders on my lease or just to check if anyone is around. No granted this is probably difficult to do but figured if a pre plotted course is set that should be possible right? Now the other questions is can CASA or any other authority see that I did fly at night and hence fine me or whatever 🥴 It might be a stupid question but given that a sub 250 drone for right now doesn’t need registration ( that will change As of 2023 i believe) or in case of the Air 2s which is above that and i think registration is required…is there an alrt or something that the authorities get if a drone is launched at night? I am really curious about that and would appreciate if you could shed some light on this for me Cheers Jim

Auto focus setting. With early version 1 (mavic pro etc) u had to press on your screen to correctly set auto focus. Yes it works without doing it, but it makes the vision sharp. U often see people who put up drone footage and mention it to them and they are not aware of it. Do you still have to do this for version 2 drones. It is actually mentioned in the user manual for Mavic Pro. The easy way to see it, even evident in your drone footage here, the trees as u fly over are not super sharp focus. Try it next time you fly and see if it makes a difference with version 2 drones. On my drone you also have to do it when you switch between video and photo. I just get into habit of pressing on screen before every photo. I have been flying my drone for over 3 years. Currently up to 521km total flight time, just under 59 hours and 310 flights. Only had 2 near miss's. Both operator error. Don't try to descend to look at something and forget there is a hill between u. Also, set return home level above hills. Otherwise it hovers there cause it cant return. was 5m too high.

Very informative video for someone to get into flying a drone. One thing you didn’t think mention was drone registration. I believe at present if you use the drone for work purposes it’s mandatory but recreation it’s okay I did read that all drones will need to have registration by 2022 except for ones less than 250 grams (mavic mini or mini 2) Proposed annual fee was $160 Wow a bit steep I thought!, Correct me if I’m wrong but I just wanted to bring this to your attention.
@WildTouring
@WildTouring 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah there has been rumours around for a while about registration and even licences for recreational pilots. But I believe it’s just rumours based on what other countries have done. Yes there’s a few restrictions for commercial use.
@advanbri
@advanbri Жыл бұрын
Just adding to your drone licensing. If you fly ANY drone for commercial purposes meaning you are getting financially rewarded, you are required by law to have the drone registered and hold a commercial drone licence to do so. As casa finds it almost impossible to police this many people are doing the wrong thing and getting away with it.

GREAT informational video! I was watching a channel I subscribe to, and according to her, the FAA here in the US does not require a license to fly it as long as it is under 500 grams weight (about 1.1 lbs) BUT if you are using it in the course of monetizing your YT channel, a license is required. Is that a requirement in AU? Seems like a bit of overreach on the part of the FAA, but there it is.

Nah I don’t think I’ve ever had an issue with temps. But on a 40degree day I’m probably not standing in the sun too long flying the thing anyway!

Cam thank you for the great video and what happened to your first three drones i.e. what caused their demise?

Sadly I’ve destroyed two by crashing them into trees. The last one I managed to sell still intact haha

I’ll try help! How did you get the footage from the drone to the computer? What computer and program did you use to edit the footage? Can you post the link to the KZfaq video here for me to have a look at?

Should be able to, you can always try downloading the app before you buy the drone to make sure it’s compatible.

the home feature only works back if you have enough battery?
@WildTouring
@WildTouring 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it’ll work out how far your are from your takeoff point and how much battery you have left and warn you when you need to return home. But if you ignore it and keep flying it’ll eventually just auto land wherever it is (hopefully not over water...)
