In certain titles, loading times do improve significantly. The Last of Us was a clear example of that. Before Naughty Dog patched the PS4 version to improve load times even on HDDs, the PS3 was faster loading a save file in TLoU with an SDD compared to a PS4 with just an HDD. GTA V also sees an improvement in loading times and texture streaming. Mainly games which have lots of texture streaming either due to the massive amount of detail or because of a large open world will absolutely benefit from that SSD. The PS3 slim is probably one of the best cosmetically looking consoles made so far. Bought mine back in Jan 2011 and just recently had to replace the hard drive.

PS3 is still my favorite console of all time and I still love using it. Multiplayer is still fun as hell. Free online. And tons of great games.

I like the media features the most. I can rip audio CDs to mp3s, save pictures, play and save mp4 movies, transfer files to and from USB sticks, and it has a nice music player with live wallpapers. Don't forget you can sync a PS4 controller to play games. I wish Fight Night Champion was playable on PS4/PS5.

The design of the PS3 slim is probably my favorite look of any Playstation console. Not blocky like the 2 or 4 and no sharp edges. Plus the glossy part is very small, so there are less distracting scratches and smudges over the front. Was also the first version of the PS3 I owned, until I tripped over a cable and pulled it off the stand. Got the super slim as a replacement and it still serves me well

Another pro tip, if you do upgrade to an SSD and have several other consoles you play, hold onto the hard drive for safekeeping. Well SST’s have better longevity while running, hard drives have better longevity while inert. If you leave you a PS3 with an SSD sitting there for 2 to 5 years without playing or running power through it, The SSD could lose retention of its data. If you use it daily it’s not an issue at all, but if you use it very VERY occasionally at any point, it ‘could’ become an issue at some point. Heading to hard drive as a back up will least get you back up and running with the original operating system more quickly, and could save some of your digital games from an untimely death.

I bought a PS3 last year, modded it with HEN and was able to play PSP games. I further modded it to CFW and was able to play PS2 games (on this non-backward compatible model). Through Multiman, I'm also able to watch region-locked Blu-rays.

I got a original phat model in November last year for 50 quid with 2 controllers and 6 games guy said he used it a handful of times since new and I believe him as the controllers and console are absolutely mint and little to no dust in the air vents. I’ve put hen on it so I can get any game I like free and it’s amazing I find myself playing it more than my Xbox series X! By far my all time favourite games console I hope they don’t shut the online down for many years to come

Bought a modified PS3 Slim in January of this year, best decision ever as PS3 games (both 1st and 3rd party) are great and memorable to me. Along with my modified PS Vita Slim and PSP Go, I'm quite satisfied as with it.

I just did... I bought 2 days ago a 2nd used unit (57€/Slim model/3years warranty) cuz I do care A LOT about this hardware. Great games combined with very simples but yet strictly necessary features gives a lot of enjoyable entertainment STILL in the years to come. Besides my 1st unit is having some kind of issue and it's getting old (Fat model from 2009) anyway. I do have a PS5 tho but I like to play from time to time some specific games that are only available in this PlayStation system (Killzone 2&3/Dead Space/Jericho/Aliens Colonial Marines etc...). I decided to install an SSD on it in order to make it even more enjoyable, durable, functional, and ultimately BETTER. 🎮 GREETINGS from 🇵🇹✓

If you're new to gaming, then this is the best console to start with. At the time, the PS3 was the best console of the 7th Gen in terms of tech specs and exclusive titles. Also, to compensate for the removal of PS2 backwards compatibility, Sony released HD remasters of many PS2 classics, which I think play much better on the PS3. This was a console worth having back then, and still worth having now

In the USA we have a thrift store called Goodwill. I used to go there a lot because you simply can't believe the great stuff I've stumbled across! I found an absolutely cherry, like brand new, PS3 there several years back. At the time, you could find many XBOX360's, but rarely a PS3. On one day a week they have half price on a certain color of price tag. My luck had me find this PS3 on half price day with the correct colored price tag, so it wasn't $80, it was $40. I've found some before at $80, but often they looked like they had exceptionally hard wear on them. This one looked brand new, so it came home with me! :) A very nice video, for sure! LIKED.

I use one in my camper for camping and road trips. It's mounted vertical on the side of a closet right under the TV. It plays blurays and DVDs excellent, you disconnect the power to the camper and move it the Blu-ray and DVD pick right up where you left off. We stream KZfaq, Netflix, Amazon prime through a hotspot. Play games anywhere and during road trips you find yard sales with PS3 and DVDs for a few bucks each. It will play audio cds as well. Best thing ever.

There is no way in hell im gonna sell my ps3 slim and Xbox 360 E for years to come. I have way too many games and memories on those systems, and besides they still work beautifully to this day. I haven't gotten a ps5 yet because imma wait for the pro version to come out.

I only have 4 systems for games these days, the PS3 being one of them. - PS3 60GB Japanese launch model with full PS2 hardware - 1TB HDD upgrade and CFW (to avoid PS2 region locks). Where I play my PS3 and PS2 games. - Xbox 360 Slim - 1TB HDD upgrade and the RGH mod (to boost compatibility with the classic Xbox). Where I play my Xbox 360 and classic Xbox games. - PS Vita Slim - 128GB SD card upgrade and CFW (to have SD card support and full PSP/PS1 compatibility). Where I play my PS1, PSP and PS Vita games. - PC for modern games because Sony & Microsoft are on Steam. I'm pretty happy with the results, there are only 2 classic Xbox exclusive games I want that don't work at all but other than that, every other game I want I can play using one of these systems. And we are talking about nearly 500 games, so a small price to pay to have a clean setup like this.

I upgraded to an SSD as well. Demon's Souls loadscreens are around 20 seconds shorter, other games as well and as you mentioned the system itself becomes faster. I definitely recommend it. Just dont get a cheap SSD.

Its 2023 and the kids and I still play out ps3 little big planet for them and metal gear for me. Still a dope console. Not to mention you can put movie and music files on it in case your internet's down and no region lock is a bonus and of course soft mod!

I just bought me a ps3 again a couple months ago. Already have about 30 games. Love that it's region free as well. I have all 4 dynasty warriors gundam (cost $40 for all 4 vs $40-$50 each for us versions), a korean version of heavenly sword ( can select english and play full game in english) and pal version of house of thr dead overkill because it came with 3d glasses sealed (as far as I know the US version didn't come with it). It's been fun to collect for. I also can play every metal gear on my ps3. I got metal gear legacy collection (it has download codes for mgs1 and vr missions and codes still worked in 2022) legacy also has metal gear 1 and 2 from msx, mgs 2, mgs 3, mgs4, metal gear peacewalker. Then I have mgs V: ground zero, and MGS5 (very impressive that it runs as good as it did on ps3) and metal gear rising! Such a great console. Also collected ps move stuff. Got 4x move controllers 4x navigation controllers and 12 move compatible games. If you plan on getting move controllers though plan on replacing the batteries. Shelf life on them is about 10 years. Every one I got had bad batteries I even bought a brand new one and it had a bad battery. Luckily the batteries are super easy to change. Cost me $15 for x2 batteries and tools. My next things I'm gonna go after is eye of judgement card game and the book of spells augmented reality book for ps3 and maybe the racing wheel that works with move controllers. I also have 2 guns for the ps move controllers.

I have a fat 60gb ps3 fully modded with a 1tb SSD fully backwards compatible & will never prefer another model besides it. So worth the investment you can control the fan speed and much more if modded.

I saw very little different between the Xbox 360 and the zbox1 . I also saw very little difference between the PS3 and the PS4 . In my opinion the PS3 outsold the Xbox360 because Microsoft's red-ring problem was alot bigger than we were told . I'd say that a lot of the 360s maybe half the number made were replacements of red-ring consoles .

Just got a PS3 Super Slim 500GB and 2 controllers for 50$ , so far I got , GoW all of them , Resistance 1/2/3 , Killzone 2/3 , Heavenly Sword , Infamous 1/2 , GT5/6 , MGS 4 , I also try to find Folklore and Puppetter but in my country those games are extremely rare :/.Also I rly like the PS3 menu so clean and nice

I just bought it. it is very nostalgic playing some old PS3 exclusive. i think PS3 have some of the best exclusive in consoles history. so when I got it i am very excited immediately hooked it up to my 65 Inch LG G2 oled. playing killzone 3 in my surprised the graphics is sooo jaggies hahahaha but it fun. i remember it was very crisp back then yet i was using 32 inch full hd tv back then.

an hard disk drive could theoretically last forever while a solid state drive will eventually stop allowing you to write on it (5-10 years)

I bought a fat many moons ago and it gave up the ghost with the YLOD after 12 years of constant use. I ended up getting the PS4 and now have the PS5 but have also ended up with 3 slim PS3’s now. They’re fantastic for KZfaq and Netflix etc and can pick them up for £20 to £30. If you want one for everyday use though steer clear of the fat as it uses a lot more power and is a bit more fragile.

PS2 backwards compatibility can be restored to a respectable level on the slim consoles. But that involves doing a soft jail break which I'm not ashamed of doing. I own legal copies of my favourite PS2 games (NFS Underground 2 🤩) and a pc with a DVD drive. I got my super slim for 50 euros. I'm not paying stupid amounts on eBay for a FAT version to die on me real soon.
