How do you handle finances as a foreigner in Russia? For instance is it still possible to invest outside of Russia, how do you convert rubles to pounds or pounds to rubles etc.

Depends a lot on the mkt. Russia is not a big one, the image damage keeping it among the target could be enormous. However, it might not so easy to leave, technically speaking
@nickolaspetrov27863 ай бұрын
@@tdrs1765 The Russian market is much larger than some European ones, but of course, they don't want to sacrifice the western market which is obviously bigger but the strange thing is that these companies did not leave the USA when they bombed Yugoslavia, Iraq, Libya etc, they do not leave Israel even though it kills a thousand children in the Gaza. F*ckin' double standards.

There are a lot of places where you can buy a new iphone for the similar as US prices. Re-store is just super expensive

у нас никак может быть американских цен, потому что курс рубля упал с 70 до 90. Это автоматическое подорожание на 30%

BTW You shouldn't compare US prices (without local state VAT) to European/Russian prices that all include VAT. In the EU VAT varies from country to country. Lowest VAT is 18%, highest VAT is a whopping 24%. Russian VAT is 20%. Apple always ads an additional 10% "Apple tax" on top of the VAT so their products are always substantially more expensive than in the US. iPhone 15 Pro Max in US (no VAT): $1199 iPhone 15 Pro Max in the Netherlands: 1479 euro (or $1600 / 144 000 ruble) iPhone 15 Pro Max in Russia: 1750 euro (or $1900 / 170 000 ruble) So really an iPhone in Russia is about 15-20% more expensive than in the rest of Europe. That makes sense considering these items have to be imported and there's additional middle men driving up the price.
@JonnyTickle4 ай бұрын
I don't know about the EU, but UK prices are also significantly more expensive than in the US. Basically the same price, but with a pound sign instead of a dollar sign, making it around 25% more expensive
@ymmv994 ай бұрын
@@JonnyTickle Because the UK price includes 20% VAT - and then there's an additional 5% "Apple tax". But let's say this again: the US price doesn't include VAT because every US state will have a different value added tax (or sales tax). Some US states have zero VAT, but most states have sales tax or even additional local surtaxes. But there are also exemptions of local sales taxes when you buy goods by mail. It's pretty complicated. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sales_taxes_in_the_United_States

Almost everyone We talked to about Apple products thinks their products are disgusting and the price doesn't match the quality. At the moment, Apple technology lags behind Chinese brands by an average of 3-5 years. Even my friend, who is a developer of software for the iPhone, although he is not so critical of Apple, but has a lot of complaints about them and is thinking of retraining on Android. For example, the CEO of one of the companies where I worked bought a Macbook, a week later she put Windows there because macOS could not perform many necessary functions, and a week later she abandoned the Macbook and bought an Asus. And I have dozens of such stories and my own experience working on a Macbook. Which makes me surprised that Apple products generally have such, as it seems to me, great popularity in Russia.

The thing is that Apple products have always been more expensive in Russia compared to the US. Even before 2022 the premium was about one third to the American prices. So "the sanctions" have not had some kind of serious impact even from that angle.
@JonnyTickle4 ай бұрын
they were always more expensive than the US, but not by this much
@NeoCubism3 ай бұрын
Two things: Apple Products were 20-30% more expensive even before 2022. US prices don’t include sales tax. In UK iPhone 15 Pro Max is £1199 or 139,990 RUB vs 169,990 in Russia. So nowhere near the 50%. You also have to consider the devaluation of Russian currency that has occurred so all imports and especially parallel imports will cost more than before. All in all, considering how cheap the call and data plans are in Russia, the premium isn’t so bad.

In India 15 pro -173000 k and 15 pro max - 195000 k so Russia is cheaper than Indian pricings😂🎉
@RealPolitik-dy4it29 күн бұрын
That’s because the bulk of the price increase is the import duty. India is famous for having crazy import duties. So is Russia, albeit not as high as the Indian one.

One thing you need to remember about the U.S. is that the price does not include sales tax. All but 5 states have it, and it ranges from 5%-10%, based off of the state and even locality. For example, if I were to head to my nearest Apple Store in the states, I would pay $1,069 for a $999 iPhone.

Buying them at a Restore will be the most expensive, you can get them a lot cheaper at pickup point type stores, same with Samsung and Sony products also. But in Russia the electronics in general are more expensive and for more niche high end products its better to use a shipping forwarding service through a non sanctioned country and have it sent to Russia, this way allows you to even buy stuff from USA without problems if your an expat and still have western payment methods.

Can Russians get access to heavily discounted iPhones thru their mobile phone service provider, like we do in the US?
@gbirkin30054 ай бұрын
В целом в России нет (и не было раньше) таких же предложений, как в США. Все устройства (iPhone или Android) не привязаны к оператору, т.е. "UNLOCKED". Максимум, что может предложить оператор - год бесплатной связи при предзаказе у них флагмана. Поэтому такого понятия, как телефон + контракт на N года у нас нет. In general, in Russia there are not the same offers as in the USA. All devices (iPhone or Android) are "UNLOCKED". The maximum that the operator can offer is a year of free mobile plan when pre-ordering flagship. Therefore, we do not have such a thing as a "phone + contract for N years".
