Really handy video, im getting my first tester soon and I'm interested in the Kewtech range. Just trying to decide which one to get

That's always the problem, choices, choices, choices. The Kewtech range is good and lots of sparkies use them. Just make sure it will test the A B F etc RCDs.

I think I've settled on the KT65DL. Seems to hit all the tick boxes without getting financially crippled.

Great advice but one point you do not have to have a meter calibrated every year you can self check using a check box so long as you keep an up to date record of the readings and any deviation from the base ready then calibration will be nessosery
@learnelectrics4402
@learnelectrics4402 3 жыл бұрын
The rules say that you must have the check box calibrated if that is what you are relying on. You need to prove your meter against something that is calibrated and traceable.

Hello Dave , Merry Christmas 🎅 What are your thoughts on the calcard? I am purchasing so i can compare readings on a used MFT from ebay.
@learnelectrics4402
@learnelectrics4402 7 ай бұрын
When I was assessing for Napit, a calcard was considered a monthly check device, to make sure your meter was still ok. A calcard cannot replace an annual calibration. It does not have traceability back to National Physical Laboratory standards. So get your meter properly calibrated when due and use a calcard each month to satisfy yourself that the meter is still functioning correctly. And good to check your new meter when it arrives, hope this helps. Dave.

Can you use the multimeter for continuity tests and buy another instrument that just have insulation resistance test function. I’m just doing minor installation and repairs around the house. R1 + R2, polarity and insulation resistance tests
@learnelectrics4402
@learnelectrics4402 Жыл бұрын
Yes you can Ashraf, all the test instruments are available as single function devices. BUT ... you can get a really good multifunction tester that does ins res. and includes all the other tests for about the same price as a single Insulation Resistance tester. The Kewtech range are very good prices and very good meters. You don't need a top of the range meter if you're not doing much. Just a thought. Dave.

I bought a ROBIN KTS 1620 second hand for 80 pounds just for practicing at home. Im sure this will trip RCBO or RCD's. Have not used it yet. Is there a procedure to avoid tripping the RCBO's/RCD available.
@learnelectrics4402
@learnelectrics4402 2 жыл бұрын
Go onto Google and search for your specific meter. There will be a manufacturer's pdf with all the user instructions. Lots and lots of practice is the key to understanding your meter.
@seandempsey7351
@seandempsey7351 2 жыл бұрын
Michael Costello , Robin KTS 1620 / Kewtech Kt62 May trip some types of RCD/RCBOs if it does you can change the angle ie test on 0d if the RCD/RCBO trip repeat the test on 180d if it still trips the RCD/ RCBO then you will have to temporarily replace the RCD/RCBO with a suitable MCB, for the test, don’t forget to put the RCD back as soon as you have got your reading.

@learnelectrics4402

Lots of good used meters about, I've had a couple for £100. If you buy used I would suggest making sure it has 10 or 12 months calibration on it and comes with a set of leads and written confirmation from the seller that it is in good working order. The old adage applies - Buyer Beware. Dave.
