Everyone hops on these “eco” friendly brands just based on what they advertise but none of them actually do any research on how sustainable they really are. Urban outfitters is one of the worst fast fashion brands and with all the plastic that companies are using for packaging none of it is sustainable in the grand scheme of things. So please do your research and if you say you want to be more eco friendly stop supporting companies that false advertise and actually look into what you’re consuming !!

its great that you are promoting being eco-friendly etc. but honestly if you stopped buying so many clothes, that would be a much greater statement for promoting sustainability! most of the brands in this video are examples of fast fashion- would be cool if you could encourage up-cycling existing clothes in your closet or doing a depop haul of second hand clothes if you are truly interested in encouraging sustainability!! no issues here just don't think you should be promoting being eco-friendly while buying excessive amounts of clothes you don't need from fast fashion retailers :)

a lot of brands have started using recyclable/biodegradable "plastic" to wrap their clothes in. it's also the way the clothes are made and how they are made which makes them eco-friendly. lots better for the environment than clothes from brands like forever 21, h&m, and brandy. the only problem is that it's really expensive. i 100% buy from non-sustainable brands, which i'm not proud of but i can't afford to buy expensive clothes. so yeah, i think that's just what she meant by sustainable brands. :)

the best thing you can do in terms of sustainability is decreasing consumption, please remember that and don’t encourage careless shopping sprees, especially at fast fashion retailers when you have the money :((
@valeries3829
@valeries3829 4 жыл бұрын
YES! I feel this everytime I see a “sustainable thrifting haul”. There is nothing sustainable about buying shit you don’t need that you will eventually throw away in a year... I’ve been so hyper conscious of what comes into my space because I am broke but also have developed an understanding of what stuff is functional & sustainable between the stuff I just want in the moment. I personally shop at some “fast fashion” stores like H&M but the difference is I make sure the item is NEEDED and it will last me forever (or as close to it as possible). I have a skirt I bought at H&M in like 2014 and I still wear it like every week lol. However, with all of these shopping sprees the brands have been less successful in making clothes that will actually last but it’s out there if you look! This practice has helped reduce my personal clothing waste & consumption because I rarely need to go shopping because I buy smart and make sure I am not just buying trendy stuff just because I want to take an Instagram picture in it...

Consuming this much fast fashion that you're gonna stop wearing once the trend starts to fade and getting rid of a pile of clothes isn't being sustainable. imagine millions of people doing this adding to our climate crisis. all the plastic in those clothes taking thousands of years to decompose while it kills our environment. also it seems reformation was the only sustainable choice here.

I will say I’m happy to see a interest in sustainable fashion, but I’ve heard a lot of stores are now green washing (basically saying they are sustainable but actually are no better than fast fashion). I use an app called “Good on you” and it basically ranks a company and does the investigations of brands so you don’t have to (but you can if you’d like).
@marysolovyeva1104
@marysolovyeva1104 4 жыл бұрын
Kaylee it’s not that hard to spot the “green washing” you just need to understand the concept of sustainability. Urban and ASOS don’t even try tbh, they know they are fast fashion and their items cost 2 cents to make while they sell them for 50+.

the irony of complaining about a store not being "ecofriendly" enough when buying an insane amount of clothes for an already full wardrobe. ps fast fashion is never eco friendly. (this is not meant with hate, but as a geniune critical comment about extreme consumerism as part of youtube "culture")

LuciaMDR I agree it doesn’t make sense when she wants to be more eco friendly but then goes and buys from non eco friendly brands. I wish she bought all secondhand from places like ThreadUp, Poshmark or/and Depop because it’s mainly cheaper (mark down from the original price) and guaranteed secondhand. I know it’s part of the YT culture but it doesn’t make sense how you can advocate for eco friendly shopping but yet still shop fast fashion.

this is the perfect example of overconsumption......: hey I really like you, but I don't really think you're sending the right message to your audience.. you are showing the perfect example of overconsumption:// you could've changed/spiced up your wardrobe in other way than rebuying everything from brands that aren't that sustainable (more greenwashing than proper actions) + getting all of that stuff shipped *hello transportation pollution* to you, idk but flying stuff out from all over the world to fit a certain aesthetic and following the dictate of the fashion industry (whose goal is to make you consume more) is kind a curious idea, in particular when we know the conditions of warehouse workers right now (with covid-19) and the current impact of fashion and transportation industry on climate change and the planet. as a famous youtuber who claims to be sustainably oriented/care for the environment, I think you have a responsibility to show the right example (upcycling your old clothes, giving or selling old clothes, swapping clothes with you friends etc..) and to promotes a *real* responsible consumption. stay safe everybody, xx

Hey just FYI since you keep talking about sustainability most of these brands are engaging in some serious greenwashing. They just label things “eco friendly” and provide no information on what the fabric is actually made of, let alone who made it and how much they were paid. Reformation is literally the only brand featured that is actually sustainable, and even they dabble in greenwashing. You have such a large influence over your followers so it’s your responsibility to do proper research Into brands before believing a blanket “sustainability” claim that is meant to attract customers and has no substance. Also, haul culture just isn’t sustainable. I know everyone is trying their best and of course it’s good to be considerate of the environment but you have to realize that brands are playing off of a desire for sustainable clothes and marketing themselves that way when really they aren’t.
