Congrats on the boat 👍Subtly different from ours but still recognisably a Bav! It took me a while to get used to all the boat noises but now I just think of them as the boat speaking, they are her voice as she tells you what she is doing. Now that I am so accustomed to them, I love hearing her speak.

Best of luck in your new venture, sad that Route master 4 hire is no more though, it was a must-watch for me, although I never worked on them, I did on loads of Bristol buses, looking after roughly 130 of them for Eastern National in Chelmsford, Essex when I left school. This is the 2nd boating channel I subscribe to, the other being Ship Happens. Looking forward to seeing more of you and your journey and also more collaboration between you, Allen and Tim back on the buses when you're back in the country again.

Well David, I'll be sticking with this channel. OK, to be sure I loved your Routemaster channel, but I think your latest adventure could be fun. Watching your first video here, I was reminded of my Godfather. Unfortunately he left it a bit too late to start sailing and he never really got to enjoy it before he had to give it up on health grounds; sailing is hard work. So much as it pains me to say it, I think you've made the the right decision to do this now. I look forward to watching your adventure unfold. Good luck with it👍 Cheers Andy

Hello David. Congrats on your new boat. I also new at this amazing pastime/sport. I have Hunter Formula One 22ft. It's very much smaller than your boat but i love it and can't wait when the weekend arrives and i go sailing. Fortunately i am learning to sail in a large inland dam in South Africa but we do sometimes get gusts of 30kt winds which isn't fun when you are alone and still learning. @@sailingmadness The weather can be fickle in Scotland. I've seen snow in May but also warm weather. May would avoid the dreaded midges although not guaranteed. Towards the end of May would be a safer bet or even into June. June, July and Aug are likely to be the warmer months (no surprise there). If you plan for both good and bad weather you won't be disappointed.

Hi Dave, sorry to see the last of the buses, however I look forward to seeing you fulfil your ambition, I wonder why you chose Y Felinheli to moor your boat? when I saw you getting in your car and driving west bound on the A55 I thought you were going to Conwy or Bangor. Regarding the LED lights I suggest you get a couple of spares as well as the one you forgot, although they have a long life the don't last forever and you might not be able to get replacements in the Caribbean or wherever you end up. I look forward to Ep.2 and beyond. Very best regards from Ray (the old sod) from North Wales

Hi David, I started with episode 2, now back to the Start. Love Dinorwig, one of the nicest natural Alates in the World came from there, the Dinorwig Heather Purple, sadly no longer available new, though as the Slate seams are connected, as Newfoundland used to be connected to Wales believe it or not, we may get that lovely Slate again at some point - presently a Match for the Penrhyn wine Red Slate is being quarried there. I think I noticed you have in Mast Furling? if so a tip after the research for my next boat popped up a couple of surprises regarding Sails for in Mast Furling. It appears that Battens in Furling mainsails are a disaster unless used for racing. I don't race sailboats, I'm a Cruiser, as the Battens cause a lot of chafeing wear and tear, causing reliability issues when Furling and Unfurling, plus that is exacerbated with cross Cut Dacron stretching and getting Baggy, So after giving it some thought for reliable Cruising use and potentially extending their service life, I approached some Sailmakers to see if it was possible to get a battenless Triradial Mainsail, as the shape retention with upgraded UV resistant threads in the Construction, with normal Sail Valeting, should give around 20 years of reliable service life while Cruising. Well I expected an inevitable loss of performance compared to a fully battened Sail, but figured I could make that back up with say a 125% to 130% Triradial Genoa- worth having imho, compared to cheaper cross Cut, as reefing points, reinforcement, etc, can be added so the Sail doesn't get wrecked by using the thing at different stages of Furling. Back to the Mainsail. I had a very interesting communication from Precision Sails, turns Out they have made quite a number of Battenless Triradial furling Mainsails, saying if using them Offshore, tick the Bluewater option box withbthe order, a d the Sail will be beefed up appropriately. Then they added, a bit of a surprise. If Triradial Constructed, ther oerformance recovers most of the performance obtained with a fully battened Mainsail. That made me sit up and take notice ! For about double the Cost of a cheaper Cross Cut Dacron Sail, with a usable service life of generally 2 to 3 years before the shape dies in us, we can Ave up to ten 10 times the Shape retained service Life, for about double the Cost ? That sounds like a bargain to me. Since, I have found Quantum Sails, Ullman Sails, and recently added to their range Elvestrom Sails do Batrenless Triradial Furling Mainsails as well. Likely others can have their arms twisted to make them too. Hope that helps with Plans for future Suit of Sails purchases David. Must admit, I'm a bit tempted to have a self tacking beefed up Furling Jib, and trying a Polyester (no mylar) Laminated Furling Reaching Code Zero to fill in the Wind angle gaps. Have to see how big the Piggy Bank ends up being first though. Best Wishes and Fair Winds. Bob. 👍⛵️✨️

Thanks Bob, yes she has in mast furling, certainly something to think about there. Luckily the previous owner had new sails fitted in 2019 so I should get plenty of use out of them before I need to consider replacing.

I know Bavaria’s do get a bad press sometimes but I think most negative comments are aimed at the newer models built after the company went bust in 2018. The newer models don’t seem to be as well built as the older ones? I know there was one like mine that lost its keel a few years ago but that’s not necessarily a design fault because as far as I know this has only happened once? My guess is this vessel had previously been grounded which caused a weakness in the area around the keel bolts. I assume this wasn’t noticed by the owner and so the keel eventually fell off causing the yacht to sink. When I was looking for a yacht I was open minded about the brand, it just needed to be 30-36ft and within my budget. I was only looking in my local area and did look at a Hunter and a Benteau before choosing the Bavaria. I don’t regret my decision, I think the finish inside is far superior to the others I viewed and I could tell she’d been well looked after by her previous owners. So far she’s been a reliable and safe yacht. 🤞
