Outside of Sony's Pulse Explore and Pulse Elite headphones, there's no other official accessories being offered for the Portal right now. So if you're looking for a carrying case, screen protector, grips, or stands, it's all in the hands of third party companies. So I decided to pick up a few different options and see what we've got to work with. Turns out, there ain't much. But that's okay, because after I upload this I'm making a sandwich. I got screen protector and my case is arriving tomorrow. I'm not into those plastic/silicone protectors or a stand. I hope the PS Portal do well so that the next version comes with more features like streaming directly from PS Plus or Sony could make a new portable system (I know that's a stretch).

In my honest opinion with everyone buying the portal I cant see why Sony would add more features or release a new handheld console if they feel people like what they are buying, that's my honest opinion though I know everyone has a different opinion on this

@@Gamingwithjbear36 It's possible they're using this to gauge the feasibility of a new handheld device. Sony makes more on software sales anyways, and I doubt this would have a significant impact to that compared to a dedicated handheld device.

@mysticRyan have you tried the USB -c adaptor on the pulse receiver on the console? I use it on my tablet to extract audio directly to the headset. Haven't found any video trying this.

I think if they end up tweaking it in the sense that I can just sign in to my playstation account and play via whatever console I have without the hassle of having to have my ps5 on or in rest mode. But in hindsights, I love the concept of it being a bigger phone screen pretty much since it has a build in screen with a duelsense built into it. Granted you have to take into consideration it's battery life is going to be very dependent on the duelsense so if you're playing remotely with haptics and things, the brightness up, even with it having a good battery so think about possible wear down the line whether with charging, or even screen burn (obviously if you're actively playing I highly doubt it but it could happen.) may eventually come into consideration. I love the nicheness of this because it's also just a better playstation backbone, essentially, but the sticks are half a duelsense, and you got a full screen rather than relying on your phone screen. I could see them building on these and coming out with oled screens, bigger batteries, pro controllers, and ways to swap out the playstation controllers for future repair. So many good ideas they could do with this, if I'm able to use this essentially as a Playstation Switch which remote play with this is essentially what you have, but say they tweak it and work on it with all these given ideas that'd be so awesome.

Allways nice to see viedos by you, but i think there is more to test on the screen protector. Like does it reflect more ore less (sun)light, are colors and lightning by the screen correct (u dont believe what kinda bullshit products are out there). Also maybe - but sure hard to test without a laboratory - what kind of glue they use, like will it stick forever even when you want to remove it or will flip off way to easily and things like that. But again pure love for your content!

Got mine last week. For $200 it's incredible. Obviously you can't play competitive shooters on it, but I'd argue you can't really do that on a switch or SD at 30fps either.

@@str8poisintv131 it has a Snapdragon 680 from 2021. Most likely able to be jailbroken, but the real question is who would actually do that? The vast majority wouldn't know how and it would void warranty.

The more I see the Portal the more it makes me think that it's really just a less integrated version of the Wii U gamepad. It's cool that there are case options and such, but I can't see many people seriously bringing it out and about the way you would a dedicated handheld. The stand is maybe the most useful thing, to display it next to the console when not in use.... which also just reminds me of the Wii U lolol which came with a nice little plastic stand in the box.

I might've agreed with this previously, but as someone who just recently bought a steam deck and have poured probably a good 100 hours into remote play using the Steam Deck exclusively, I have to say remote play is a complete revelation. I am practically using Steam Deck as a remote play device first while inside the house and while I go about my business outside of it, and that's essentially what the Portal is.

@6reen6uy As a father of 2 girls, I can see a huge benefit of the Portal. I am not selfish to claim full control of the TV all the time. A family of 4 shares things. If the TV is in use, I could still play on the Portal. Personally, I'd like them to unlock the Vita to be able to remote play from the PS5, like it can with the PS4. But that's never gonna happen.

@12:10 Here is a new screen protector TIP! Go into your bathroom. Close door. Turn on Hot water in shower until a little humid and steamy. Use clean counter to apply screen protector. The moisture eliminates static and holds downs particles that cling onto the screen and new screen protector. You will never do it different again!

Idk if this will help anyone but if you just want a nice grip and to help with sweaty hands. I highly recommend the kontrol freak grip for the dualsense and just put it on the portal. They’re cheap and helps a lot and has a good fit to the portal.

@@cun7us No matter how many comments you copy and paste the same response Sony isn't going to waste money making a dedicated PSP/Vita again. Nintendo was dominating that market and dropped the DS. The switch is their only console, now instead of their main console and the DS

@@blakew595 I never said it needed to be another PS Vita. They had a big opportunity to allow cloud streaming which would have actually given this thing some value, but it doesn't even do that. It's just a mirroring device with a basic LED screen and no Bluetooth. For parents wanting to remote play at home I can see some use for it but besides that, it's basically useless.

@@EnaTenkiyoGamer Steamdeck says otherwise. Plus the Switch is dominating the Handheld market. Its just Playstation didn't do a very good job supporting the Vita. They dropped it immediately after they launched it. The Playstation Portal is just another flop.

I work as a chauffeur And I be playing my portal up to 80 miles away from my ps5. This is perfect for me since I work 17 hour shifts and I never like the back bone. This is perfect. For me at least 😅

I was of the same opinion, but remote play is a complete revelation man. I use my steam deck primarily for remote play and have pretty much completed God of War Ragnarok with a majority of my playtime over remote play and Sea of Stars exclusively while on remote play. It's just a vastly different experience if you even have a half decent setup for it.

Sony's betting in 1-2 years time the reach and bandwidth of broadband and mobile networks can maintain a consistent .1sec lag threshold for on-the-go use. And you don't need to buy dedicated games for it. They're trying to ride the wave before it comes, i guess.

Kinda wack they dont at least give you some sort of sleeve to protect it. Always some kind of upsell with Sony nowadays. Just like how we can't even use our Pulse headsets with this device, and forcing people onto the $200 plus tag. That, and add in the cost of the $200 Portal, and the $500 PS5. That's insane.

Would love to see another real handheld, but that probably wont happen anytime soon if at all. For now ill stick to my tablet when I want to play remotely, thats a bigger screen, bluetooth and additional apps, so really no additional value with the Portable right now. Looks like a great device, but rushed as its missing many features.

I like the hard travel case and the heather gray hard plastic shell mainly because it changes the color of the portal. I don't like white on electronics in general. I bought a psvr2 recently and I waited because I wanted to buy it on sale but also because skins were readily available for it so I don't have to look at that awful color it comes in.

Solution to Stable Connection 1. If you have money to buy this you have money to upgrade your wifi (if it sucks on this it will suck on your console) or 2. Use your mobile hotspot (I have unlimited hotspot usage no slow downs)

My friend got me a portal as my joint x,as/birthday present, for me as a father of a 2 year old and a wife who loves watching awful tv shows I am probably the target market for this device, and I do like it but if I’d paid it for myself I’d feel different for sure. Should’ve allowed downloading as long as you check in like once a week or something.

The price kinda seema reasonable but it was a missed opportunity. A stand alone PS5 Duel sense price isn't that much different. However... they could've done a lot more with this even without investing in portable gaming properly. - could've made it usable as a controller on the ps5 - could've built in ps1, ps2, psp and perhaps ps vita emulation. It really doesn't cost much to emulate those devices and would have incentivises more people buying classif games (equally helping ps premium). But... on the bright side. i think the positive sales of this is basically a signal to Sony to invest in their own portable. I am pretty sure it will run on sony os rather than windows or linux to avoid gamepass.

I don’t see Sony skimping on the price of including emulation, no matter the cost. Their unreasonable, IMO, price increase to PS Plus shows just this.

It is usable as a controller on the PS5. I don't have a portal, but I use remote play on the steam deck. Had to recently have my Dualsense triggers repaired due to it becoming increasingly softer to press. I resorted to using remote play on it as a controller while playing on my TV screen. It was perfectly usable. I guess it would've been nice to have it connect directly to the PS5, but seriously, if you have good wifi for the PS5 and the Portal it barely makes any difference. Also PS1, PS2, PSP, and Vita emulation just isn't feasible. Yes those devices can be emulated even by cheap phones these days, except for the Vita, but aside from PS1 the emulation is far from perfect on lower end hardware. Sony and other console manufacturers pride themselves on experience consistency. This is why even Xbox can't just release a one size fits all OG Xbox emulator for the XSX and has to do it per game. You won't be able to achieve that with this hardware unless they specifically include a beefier chip or actually have purpose built hardware for it.

Since you can play this away from home I would maybe have wanted this in the past, just to maybe play my ps5 while on lunch at work, however I’ve been trying to get healthy and I walk during my lunches now, so still not into it. But I will say I do understand why some people would like this.

I don't use remote play so I won't be getting a portal I rather sony fetched out a vita 2 or a psp3 with there own games I most say it dose look cool but I think it would have been better if it played native games not just for remote play

I like my Portal; it has made me play my PS5 more this past couple of weeks. I think I have a faulty one, because my wired headphones have this static noise, whenever I use them on the portal, and I have tried multiple headphones, and they all have static sound. I don’t want to return the portal, since who knows when I will get a replacement. I ordered the new Sony Explore Wireless Earbuds, so hopefully that solves my issue.
