why would 999 999 overflow ? you need at least a 32 bit integer to store this value and the maximum value you can store in 32 bit is ~4 billion

I actually mispoke here on stream -- I don't think the reason is related to the actual value at the maximum money pointer. In hex, at 0809fdd4, you get 3f 42 0f 00 (000f423f is 999,999), which, like you said, can easily be changed to hold way more money, In addition, there are pointers that let you edit the number of digits displayed (which I didn't do in this hack). It was more likely done to prevent the player from getting the bike - I see no other reason why it would be this way, haha. Thank you for mentioning this - it's something I should've pointed out in the edit!

I just remember that Gen 1 and 2 used BCD numbers for saving the amount of money, which makes the Virtual Console versions different from the original, because the money halving routine when you wipe-out works different, as BCD arithmetic is not correctly implemented in the VC emulator.

what if you buy the bike with your money, and then go and listen about how beautiful Rabidash is... How Smarts Rabidash is... how Fuc... never mind. what i mean is, what if you get the bike with your money and then get the voucher for it from the fan club president. would there be some extra dialog from him saying "oh but you seem to be in no need for this" or something. honestly i was surprised that there was even dialogue when you bought the bike with money there. so what if they added even more extra hidden dialog into the game.
