Buying "Unsearched" eBay Wheat Penny Rolls Online #3 - Is It Worth It?

Is buying online "unsearched" wheat penny rolls a good bargain?
In this video I will test a few sellers with a pretty good ratings. I purchased three full rolls of 1909-1929 mixed year wheat pennies from one seller and then another 5 rolls (got a bonus 6th) of the shotgun rolls (shorties) dated 1909-1939 from another seller. A total of 9 wheat penny rolls, 8 that I purchased online.
They also claim that the rolls were unsearched and that they have been disappointed in other rolls they've bought online and that they guarantee that these would create happy customers...
Let's see what kind of mix I get on the years, the condition of the coins and if it was a good deal or not.
Let me know what you think about online rolls and if you have ever had success or felt like you'd been ripped off...

The only 'unsearched' wheat pennies i buy are from my local coin shop. I buy them 4 cents a piece and last time i bought a bag of 1000 there was 3 1909 vdb in them, plus a hanfull of ms 65 in the 40s and 50s.

Not bad mixed years. I just went through some wheat pennies I bought on eBay too. Only thing seller guarantee was there is 600 wheaties. I checked them all and a little over 600 wheaties for sure but everyone was between 40-58. Nothing older then 40. It was an auction instead of buy it now so only paid $23 plus $7 shipping. Not too bad.

i did what you did once. i completed my album of lincoln wheaties from 40 to 58 strictly from roll hunting. i got most 30s incl 32p and alot of teens and 20s. best finds wheatie hunting were 09vdb 26s and 32p. i bought the rest. whats your best wheat hoard finds?

I love your videos are great. the album's I am trying to fill our four pennies I found that I did not pay more than face value for. I did cheat one time and that is the steel pennies I don't think I'll ever find a steel penny ever. Honestly modern time coin roll hunting I don't think anyone can complete these albums without purchasing them above face value. To complete these albums without purchasing them above face value would be an achievement of a lifetime.

Unsearched means they are ready to be searched for collecting of course he put the rolls together for you tho how else would he know what year range they are

The first rolls had obviously been searched at some time. I don't like buying rolls from people who sell that many. All of my best finds were from people who didn't sell just coins or people who admit to searching and filling them with decent coins.

Asking a stupid question I guess, but here goes: How can you be sure, the roll only contains 1909 to 1929 if the roll is unsearched? And if it was randomly filled by a bank back before 1930 (which would explain the 'until 1929'), how come the roll is limited to 1909?

I think the term “unsearched” is not a true term for 99.9% of the listings. Sellers can claim the rolls are unsearched by them if they purchased them from an estate sale, etc and that’s the loophole. If I get a roll of pennies from the bank and it is marked as 1909-1929, and then I list them on eBay but I never look inside the rolls, then they are unsearched. That’s the loophole - but it’s still fun for me to give it a crack, just like a lotto ticket but with some return on every try.

Your kind of coin-collecting is pretty alien to me. I live in Belgium. Coins of 1905 would be totally different and no longer usable today :) I keep them in ringbinders ordered by king.. and even the denomination changed a few times over the years.(Belga, Frank and now Euro) Coins with holes in them during the years of the war -- struck in zinc. Gold coins back in 1830 when Belgium was founded. Silver coins up until the 1930's. It's a beautiful hobby. And I enjoy learning the variations you hunt for as opposed to the ones I look for, which are a LOT more obvious :)

There's no such thing as "unsearched" wheat cent rolls. Possibly not searched by the seller but no way they've been sitting somewhere for the last 80 years and nobody touched them and even then, likely searched before they were put up back in the day. So, unsearched by the seller is about as far as that goes.

The first 3 rolls were a bit of a let down. I would be mad if I paid someone $45 and they sent me that many 1919s. I buy and sell and I would make sure someone was getting their money worth if they spent that much.

@@RobFindsTreasure Whether I like it or not I just turned 70. I started out coin roll hunting in the early 1960's when coins were still silver. You could still find SLQ in change. I spent a lot of hours going through penny rolls for my penny collection and still have 110 rolls of wheats from 1909 to 1958. Never did find a 1909 S VDB. But at least I do have a 1909 S. Things have changed since I have not actively collected for years. I am getting active with collecting again and looking forward to it. Spending the time going through rolls will be fun.

Very informative, but wear gloves when you handle coins, both to protect them and yourself, these days that should be basic procedure.

I feel like this is a bad deal. All of the coins have poor quality and nothing of significant importance. Hard to justify above $15 a roll for that... $0.30 a piece? I dunno bro. Dude advertised 1909-1929 and there was no 1909....

If he knows what dates are in each roll then they have been searched, period. Everyone over states what they have on sell on Ebay and half of the KZfaq videos are made for people to click on. Such as seen: Found a Ton of Silver in lot. Yeah right. guy opened like $1000 of dimes and found 12 silver dimes in the whole lot. Hardly a ton which would have taken him 82 years doing that ever day and spent 90,000 hours searching an over 100,000 dollars worth of gas driving to and from banks over that time period. Sellers on Ebay are there to make money, not make money for the buyers. You do make interesting videos though. I liked watching some of them.
