It's difficult fishing heavily vegetated grass flats with moving baits other than topwater lures, and for Wired2Fish's Mitch Anderson, the choice comes down to using a frog or buzzbait. In many situations, buzzbaits are a better tool. They're fished with a straight retrieve for starters, allowing you to burn water like few baits. And secondly, buzzbaits produce an aggressive sound and vibration that draws active bass from further distances than frogs.
TACKLE USED:

• Zoom Z-Craw Jr, White Pearl: wired2.fish/Zo...
• Lew's Custom Plus Speed Stick Super Grip Casting Rod, 7' MedHvy: wired2.fish/Le...

• Sufix 832 Braid, 40lb: wired2.fish/Su...

• Fish Monkey Performance Face Guard: wired2.fish/Fi...
Buzzbaits are an excellent locator tool when bass are most active - usually early morning or late evening hours. Anderson marks the location of where he catches or moves bass then circles back with a jig or Texas rig if the topwater bite fizzles.
With hundreds of options on the market, choosing a good-performing buzzbait takes a critical eye. Anderson explains what he looks for in a quality buzzbait, emphasizing his preference for lighter gauge wire and a blade that contacts the head. Lastly, he shares his preferred rod, reel and line combo for getting solid hookup and extractive bass from heavy cover.

I hate to contradict you, but I throw a buzzbait in heavy lily pads & grass & it's very effective! My buzzbait rarely gets caught up in the pads!
@Wired2Fish
@Wired2Fish 3 жыл бұрын
Sure, they slide through the pad decently. This lake has a mix of pads and stringy weeds. The stringy stuff gets wrapped up around the buzzbait shad and blade and prevents it from spinning. Once the stringy grass dies back, we'll put the buzzbait back on.

Hey does anyone know what causes a buzzbait to lay on it's side when your reeling it in?
@ALEXGEORGE408
@ALEXGEORGE408 3 жыл бұрын
I've had the same problem. I've seen multiple posts by other anglers saying that it's mostly due to the speed at which you retrieve the lure. You might need to slow it down

Do you guys ever show anything for Southern waters. Northern bass are completely different and a hell of a lot easier to catch.
@Wired2Fish
@Wired2Fish 4 жыл бұрын
We sure do! To be honest we just havnt been able to travel south and get with guys as often as we normally would this year with all the COVID related hang-ups. But if you search across our library you can find a lot of southern specific content. Quite a few on buzzbaits if that’s what you’re looking for.

Skirt and trailer?!?!?! First I have seen them together on a Buzzbait. Usually see the skirt/ trailer combo on a spinner.

Why not use a teckle frog? It's a fine medium between a walking frog and a buzzbait.
@Wired2Fish
@Wired2Fish 4 жыл бұрын
Certainly can, especially when getting deep into the cover where a buzzbait is prone to fouling. Mitch demonstrates that in this video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hK-af62jsNXDZ40.html On this day, Mitch was more focused on the outside edges of the thick stuff -- where it transitioned to a large grass flat. A few benefits of the buzzbait: 1) an exposed single hook fishes clean over the top of grass and delivers better hooking percentages than that of a hollow body frog, 2) the squealing sound of the blade on the wire coupled with the thud of the blade hitting the lead head is a proven attractor that can draw bass to the bait from a greater distance than that of a Sprinker frog (it's louder), and 3) the ability to quickly swap out and experiment with different trailers can make a difference. The right combination of trailer color and profile can turn bass on.

I had a friend to throw the buzzbait over my head while I was under water in the pool and I never heard a sound with or without the seaky. Got me to thinking maybe it a sight thing 🤔 🤷🏽‍♂️

When we've filmed Buzzbaits underwater you can definitely hear it! It's also important to remember our ears are unlike fishes ears. Cool that you had that experience in the pool. Perspective is always good.

@@Wired2Fish Clarence is right. The most important thing is sight. Doug Hannon proved this with his invention, "The Color Selector". Too much noise and light flashing from shiny blades will scare off the really big fish . I'm the guy who built the first "Boogerman" buzzer and I only used black buzz blades for that reason. Trust me, give it a test. Slow down your retrieve and change up y'alls fishing, by slowing down and making each retrieve count. All that clakin and flashin will catch a lot of smaller fish, but the really big ones didn't get that big by chasing something noisy and flashy.
