Beeswax wraps are super easy to make, just need pretty fabric (can be bought with no packaging) and beeswax you can usually find in blocks or pellets at the local farmers market with no packaging as well. Just melt the wax on top and it's super cheap to make a ton of wraps!

You get bread from the bakery and meat from the butcher's and bring your own (reusable) wrapper or lunch box or tupperware to transport it home. Easy peasy. And, ugh, my German heart wept when you threw the content of the waste jar all into *one* trash can. In Germany, you meticulously sort your trash.

In the US it’s hard to find shops like that. Most places to get food are supermarkets, which use a lot of packaging. In my town, there is only one stand alone butcher shop and no stand alone bakeries. I guess it’s a cultural difference. I wish the US was more like Europe because of this!

@@margaretlyons9494 I can't believe you guys don't have butchers, fishmongers, bakery and markets! Here in Greece city centres are filled with them, you can't avoid them! Also we have markets almost constantly, and their location about the city/area will change day by day on a weekly cycle. Even our supermarkets, many of which are family owned ( of course we still have big chains in every city, but what I'm going to say still applies to these) have a proper butchers section and many a bakery. But the actual butchers, fishmongers and bakeries give a nice community vibe. Shame you don't have them

The whole food thing is recyclable and when you bought takeout, the bowls that they gave you are reusable. Reason: let’s say you want to give some food to your friends and you have nothing to put it in, use the leftover takeout bowls and then they can keep it instead of using your glass containers and then have to return it.

You can make a small composting bin at home with a five gallon bucket. So you take a 5 gallon bucket, and drill lots of small holes into it, except for the lid. You start it with a little bit of mulch and little tree trimmings and grass cuttings. About every other day, roll it around on the ground. After a little bit, you can put food scraps into it. You will want to put eggshell cartons in it, as it will help stabilize the moisture. This will turn into dirt that is very nutritious for plants. You can up size this by drilling holes in a metal trash can, but use bungee cords to hold on the lid when holding. Corrine from Threadbanger has a really good video about this.

Some tips for food! For fast food: bring your own plates and cups/bottles. Also im from canada and we have a store called bulk barn where food, snacks, pasta, and ingreidents are in giant contanors and you scoop out how ever much you want and put it your own resuable bag and they weigh how much you picked and charge you that way. Also local bakerys and stuff have bread and you can bring your own bag to put it in

All of your cardboard and most of your plastic can be sent to a recycling facility. I dont know about the states, but in Canada, most major supermarkets have large bins set up in their back lots for customers to use for their recycling. You're plastic take out containers can be washed and used for holding small, loose objects like Lego, pencils and marbles. Paper towel are actually compostable. Instead of getting meat from a grocery store, go to a butcher. You can bring your own glass/plastic or bees wax wrap containers for them to pack your meat in.

Our city has a city wide composting system. We have a large green bin along with our garbage bin. we have a smaller compost bin for under our sink. All our food waste and packaging is accepted, along with our yard waste. I live in Canada, so in the winter it only goes out every other week, but in the summer it goes out every week. We also have recycling for all of our plastics and paper products. Our green bin goes out every time we are allowed to put it out and we usually have two bags of recycling. One usually is my Grandma's, who is 93. She collects her recyclables and we bring it to our house. At her apartment there is nothing like that.

Thing is though. It's fine to have waste that can be recyclable. Paper towels, the packaging from the food bags, napkins, all recyclable As for the take out, if they'd gone to McDonald's or somewhere similar the burgers are wrapped in recyclable paper, the bags are recyclable, the cups are recyclable, even the straws nowadays. The only thing that isn't is the lids on the drinks xx Oh and in the UK, most bread is in plastic but a lot of brands come in paper packaging which is recyclable
