I can tell you first hand it is a terrible feeling when you are in an 18 wheeler trying to get out of the way, but you can't because there is no room to move..

It's especially frustrating when it's due to some dipshit in front of you in a 4-wheeler with like 30 feet of space
@HighOnLife1985

This is so true. Their intention is there that they want to pull over, but a truck that size, yes, impossible.

@@Sirisma I've had that before here in the UK. Safe to say the 4 wheeler got pushed out of the way by myself. I ended up with 3 points on my license but I found out after the incident that had I not have done that the casualty would've probably had life changing injuries if they were in the vehicle any longer. Worth it.

If everyone used there nut and left space or keep to the side as soon you got to the queue you won’t have to move out the way and it will leave a space down the middle for fire engine or ambulance just think it might be your family so you would want them to get there fast to sort it

Because there's a breakdown lane, so of course the firetruck will try to force its way past vehicles (like semi-trailers) that can't easily move. Yup, makes perfect sense.
@Bcarr122391
@Bcarr122391 3 жыл бұрын
VerilyVerbatim you can clearly see a guardrail. It’s safer to go down the middle. Plus, what if someone is in the breakdown lane.... wait for it.... broken down?
@VerilyVerbatim
@VerilyVerbatim 3 жыл бұрын
@@rJayisawesome 7:06 Really? And how long was the firetruck sitting there, trying to force semi-trailers to move? Plus, you only split lanes like that if there's NO OTHER OPTION. European emergancy crews have a common saying... 'lane open, leave open'. If that happens to be the emergancy lane, so be it. It's an open lane (for emergancy vehicles), leave it open. It's far quicker to drive down that, then to try and force semi-trailers to move to the right when they can't?
@VerilyVerbatim
@VerilyVerbatim 3 жыл бұрын
@@Bcarr122391 So what if there's a guard rail? We have those also, but it's actually easier to drive down the breakdown lane, and make vehicles in the closest lane shift over a bit more to give the firetruck more room. Also, you're assuming much.... but even if you do happen to come across a stalled vehicle.... it's still far quicker to make a few vehicles move out of your way, as opposed to hundreds. The firetrucks come equipped with loudspeakers, and instructions of 'everyone, move to the left' would get the point across.
@VerilyVerbatim
@VerilyVerbatim 3 жыл бұрын
@@rJayisawesome 'Europeans do it better'.... your words, not mine. All I said for the European emergancy crews was the common saying 'lane open, leave open'. If drivers hear sirens, and there's an open lane.... leave it open? Also, 'bigger' is not necessarily better. Many countries around the world have much smaller firetrucks, and yet, everyone moves out of the way regardless.

Apparently it's rocket science for most people to pull to the right. A firefighter should never have to get out of the apparatus, and go up to tell somebody to move to the right! That it is ridiculous.
@VerilyVerbatim
@VerilyVerbatim 4 жыл бұрын
The 'move to the right' rule should only apply to active lanes. If the breakdown lane wasn't blocked by slow-moving heavy vehicles, the firetruck could easily have used it, and would have arrived at the accident site much faster. Or am I the only one trying to use logic... lane open, LEAVE OPEN.

11:00 it took one man with real common sense to make all those drivers realize how they can pull to the side if they knew how to drive and even let the semis move to the side. The only ones I’m in support of are the 18 wheelers CDL holders because they are the only ones that actually tried to move out the way! It’s just always the 4 wheelers man! Firefighters and CDL drivers, much respect!!

Well, sometimes a lot of noise doesn't do the trick. "Trying to come up the middle" might not work :....but....One method that worked for me in a blocked highway, turn off the siren, use the PA and say tell them what to do..."Cars on the left move left, cars on the right move right" and voila, you go up the middle. Repeat siren and instructions as needed. I love how trucks and people hang into the breakdown lane so no one can cut past them..then a fire turck needs to get thru...

Engines I've ever known will use that air-horn like crazy along with th siren approaching all major intersections to make sure cars KNOW that the engine is coming thru!! I was shocked how less they used it on the city streets. I woulda given that %@$#& u-haul an EARFUL!! I'd have held that air-horn in honk mode!!! Lol. It's crazy how many to this day just freeze like deer in a headlight. Move to the RIGHT you idiots!!! What, did you fail that question on your driving test??? Geesh

Not too late. I was a cop - hated the corruption within my department. On the side, I secretly got EMT certified, and took the civil service exam for the fire department. Took all the physical exams, psych evals, interviews, etc under my departments nose (they seriously were astonishingly corrupt, so I decided to say screw em and not give them any notice). Got hired, and told my chief of my plan - he agreed and said if my Captain called all angry that I just upped and quit, he’d brush him off. Two days before my fire academy date I went right up to my Captain with all my gear, placed it on his desk, gave him the finger and quit. Went to the fire academy, passed, and am now a Firefighter/Paramedic. Best decision of my life swapping from blue to red! NEVER TOO LATE! And I did this all at 34. My only regret is I wish I did this sooner. I was Army and went right into the police force upon getting out. Wish I went green to red rather then green to blue, then to red… My only life regret… Never too late!

When I say my chief, I meant my at the time, new fire chief of the department I got hired to! He was cool with it. Went to work at my police department and quit right there - went home immediately after and prepped my stuff for the fire academy lol. Good times! Best job in the world. Nobody flips me off as I drive by, never get called a pig, nobody’s mad to see me; it’s amazing! I have people come up to me to thank me, people are happy to see me, I get to teach fire safety at my kids’ school and all their friends love it! Let’s be real. Do you want a ride along in a cruiser or an apparatus? We all know that answer lol… I became a cop to help my community, and got crapped on for it… I switched to fire to still help my community, and it’s nice to see people being appreciative of it! Never too late, man! Give it some thought - best job in the world, best decision ever, and I couldn’t be more content with my life even if I tried!

And you can’t beat our schedule! Here’s mine and like 90% of departments within America! Monday: 24 hour shift Tuesday: 24 hour shift Wednesday: off Thursday: off Friday: off Saturday: off Sunday: 12 hour shift in the ambulance since I’m also a paramedic. Repeat that for 3 weeks. My 4th week I’m off for an entire 7 days. Then repeat this entire process every single month. I legit work 60 hours - 20 hours of overtime. I literally work 180 out of 744 hours in a 31 day month - 6 24 hour shifts as a firefighter, and 3 12 hour shifts as a paramedic. And yes, you still get PAID on your 4th week! It’s weird and hard to explain how it works, but you still get paid! I make close to 7.2k a month from that alone. You get so much time home with your family, you have PLENTY of time to work a 2nd job if you’d like - I do! I work as a part time real estate agent just because I get bored easily while my wife is at work and my kids are at school and I’m all alone lol. I make decent money off of that, plus I use my VA Loan and bought some properties to be a landlord for, and my disability from the Army. Add all that on top of my wife’s salary as well - it’s phenomenal money, man! You can’t beat it. I’m 48 on, 96 off, 12 on, then repeat. The 12 on and then go home just to wake up to do the 48 on gets kind of hard at times - but I’m in a moderate call department; so I get to sleep still - it works itself out. Other schedules are 24 on, 48 off for the first 3 weeks. Then you get 5 days off your 4th week. Then you can also have the schedule of 24 on, 24 off, 24 on, 24 off, 24 on, 96 off. My favorite is 48 on, 96 off. Plenty of time to work a 2nd job if need be. Can’t beat it, man. Anyways, that’s my Ted Talk; sorry for the long 3 comments. Have a good one!

@@danwetzel4021 you're kind of ignorant here...... Definitely not high risk in stopped traffic..... Also, he was smart and kept himself in front of his truck... That fire truck weighs in at a pretty few pounds and some jackass in a car isn't going to flinch that fire truck... We use our trucks as a barrier frequently, especially on accident calls...... What is the difference in him getting about 200 feet ahead of his rig in stopped traffic to inform drivers to move and being on scene with two lanes of traffic whizzing by at 70 mph 5 feet a way from you while working an auto accident?? I think it's pretty clear that you have no idea what you are talking about..... I'm a Firefighter of 10 years running and what you just said is most probably one of the absolute dumbest things I've heard in my entire life.... If he should be suspended for standing in stopped traffic to inform the public that he serves, then I guess we should all be suspended every time we work an auto accident with traffic blowing past at high speeds just a few feet away, right? What he did was fine and in no way should result in suspension. He communicated to the drivers clogged up on the interstate and managed to clear a path for his rig in doing so... If you think that constitutes disciplinary action, I pray to God that you never find your way to any rank, should you actually be a firefighter.... Your logic is flawed and I'd be willing to bet you have little-no experience as a Firefighter.

Scary to see an engine stuck in traffic like that when lives are at stake. A sigh of relief when you were finally able to get a clear path down the shoulder. Always respect a firefighter as they are willing to risk their own life to go into a burning building to save yours.

Ya its pathetic I'm a paramedic/firefighter in both RI and CT and it doesn't matter if I'm running blue or red lights people don't know how to drive. I was almost run off the road one day by a women who had pulled over for my blue lights then decided to pull back out just as I was about to pass. I had to go into the breakdown area of the other side of the road to avoid a collision. Worst ones are the ones that see you and don't care or bother trying to pull over or park in the fire lanes in front of stores get those a lot in the tourist season during the summer

Part of it is that our road ways are way too small especially in the median and shoulders not enough room for people to pull off.
@CDRhammond
@CDRhammond 5 жыл бұрын
@@2012frawd in that situation I could understand but I've had people just not move even when they had room and in one occasion while responding to a multi dept. structure fire a beach goer intentionally blocked me even flicking me off in her rear view mirror. Unfortunately for her RISP was responding as well and also saw what she did and her beach plans turned into sitting in a cell for the day
