Part 4 of a 2020 solo canoe trip out of Brule Lake. Its has been over a decade since being to that area and I finally found an available permit. The winds and crowds were unavoidable but experiencing the area again was wonderful!
Stay tuned for later parts of this series!

Well, you did manage to find a beautiful lake with plenty of solitude to visit despite the 2020 crowds. Looks like it was a wonderful day.

Yes, it was just about perfect. I had a lot of fear at the time given the crowds from Brule to Omega but then I crossed into another world. The campsite was small but pretty nice for a solo stay.

I was hoping you'd go over to Otto Lakes (at least one of them). When I was first planning my trip, I considered going there for a night or two but it just wasn't working out time wise. And, as you know, I didn't even make it to Omega or Hensen. Otto (and, especially that one campsite) looked nicer than I was led to believe it would on the BWCA.com site.

I must say I was very impressed with the the one I did visit, very rugged. The portage there was hard, wish I would have recorded it instead of just talking about it. If that is a new portage heading in there I found, it will be much easier to get to it (good and bad maybe). I would like to check out the south side of the eastern Otto Lake, there was a logging camp there between it and Winchell as well as a road to the west shore of Gaskin and up to Poplar area somewhere. It would be fun to see if anything remains.

They were no bags this trip, couldn't believe it. There were a few cold nights and it was very dry which all helped I suppose.
