Janet Jackson - Black Cat (GUITAR COVER)

Over the years I've occasionally mentioned my love for Janet, but when I say I love her, really I mean I love her AND Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis (their songwriting and production is always killer to me). Technically this track isn't one that involved Jimmy and Terry as much, but it features on the classic Rhythm Nation album that they made with Janet. That album is easily in my top 5 from a production standpoint alone.
So, of course this is a more 'guitar heavy' song anyway but I've picked the mix that they used for the video as there are some more little guitar fills and licks in there and it made it even more fun to play. I believe it could be Nuno Bettencourt on this version but I think the solo is still David Barry.

*It's a Charvel DK24 and it's Purple. (Yes, it could do with a polish)
*I use a Boss Me50 into a Palmer Pdi09 going direct into my computer, recording onto Pro Tools.
*I purposely have my headphone cable like that so it doesn't get in the way.

Killer job man. The fact she never released a straight up all rock album is the definition of a missed opportunity, she clearly had a gift for it.

That would be great if she would. Janet always made sure she records a few Rock Songs on her albums. Trust A Try is another favorite of her singing rock

I've always considered her to be a very versatile music artist on many levels. Not just because she accomodates her own voice and singing style for a specific song, but also because she can make a bunch of different music genres in a way that feels natural for her.

I totally agree, Ninji522! 👍🏼😎 She had an amazing voice, not only for R&B, New Jack Swing, Funk and Soul, but definitely also for Rock! 'Black Cat' is even one of my favorite 😍 Rock Songs and in my Rock-playlist. Been to one of her concerts in the mid-90s...wow!!! The best concert I have been to! 🤩 What a show, what a voice while dancing! 😎

Spectacular guitar work. Janet absolutely killed it on this song. It’s got such a killer groove. Especially the guitar riff and tone. And of course the solo is very tasteful and in your face. One of my favorites from her.

Also Ben, did you happen to catch Last in Line over in Scotland? Think they were in Troon on Saturday night? I know there's a few more dates planned for Scotland and Ireland but can't remember which towns. I so want to see Viv up close and personal at one of these smaller shows, but for some reason LIL eschewed coming through the Southeast (furthest south was Richmond) so no dice. Woulda been worth the $99 vip to get to say hello to Viv and tell him how much I admire him, and not just as a guitarist.
