In this PvP challenge, both Link & myself will lock ourselves in the different eras of RuneScape. Starting with 2004, we will only be using gear and killing monsters from each respective year up until 2007. After a total of 3 hours on the clock, we will both gear up with our total loot... And then we fight.
The 'By Release' PvP challenge
-Spin 20 times on the randomizer with time set from 2001-2004.
-For 1 hour, kill monsters only up to Dec 2004.
-Spin 20 times on the randomizer with time set from 2001-2005.
-For 1 hour, kill monsters only up to Dec 2005.
-Spin 20 times on the randomizer with time set from 2001-2007 (yep I skipped 2006).
-For 1 hour, kill monsters only up to Dec 2007.
-RESET Gear for every year you spin for
-Must move to a different monster if you lock in a gear slot.
-No skilling with drops, drops only
-Can use house teles & sharks from the bank to progress
-Given lobsters for fight

PvP idea. Both of you guys pick rulesets to follow for the video, and then you spin for what rule you get (or box with no food) then you guys both have completely different rules for the episode, but there’s no incentive to make a lopsided rule set because you could get stuck with it

Idea for clue scrolls in future episodes, only allow uniques. It would stop them from being meta to get easy rune gear and food, but still allow for the randomness and fun upgrades.

(spoilers) I believe when they say that it wouldn't have been especially different. Link had the helm and shield off for most of the fight anyway, and it would be so trivially easy to go get a wizard robe top in place of the Zammy top (honestly probably would have been faster than staying at Zammy monks through five bottoms for it, and wizard has a higher mage attack bonus). Maybe Rargh would have caught a few more hits if Link didn't have the shield and helm on at the beginning, but I'd be shocked if it made up for 16 extra food at the end.

@@realityChemist True, but link wouldn’t have had a suitable amount of runes. Yes he could have got lucky with barrows but he still would have probably ran out before the end of the fight.

Considering the rules were to only bring one item from each type of monster, and most of link's runes came from camping nechs/mages and ankous, i don't think this fight would have been the same.

@@JamesDoesItAll The lock-in rule is for gear, not all items (see: 0:25 all caps red letters). Supplies - food, runes, pots, etc - usually have different rules from gear in the randomizer challenges. Rargh didn't mention supplies specifically during the intro, but the only time I've seen them treat runes as gear has been when they've had casts on the randomizer (which they didn't this time).

@@nathanieljones8381 Maybe Rargh is unclear when writing out challenge rulesets, or maybe Link has poor reading comprehension. Hard to say without seeing behind the scenes. Either way, I do wish they'd reshoot challenges when this sort of thing occurs. I'm sure their thought process is something like "that'd be a waste of three hours"/"we don't have the time"/etc, but it's just poor form really. You mess up a three hour project at any other job, your ass is staying late to fix the mistake.

@christopher6600 He had a hard deadline set by the ad company, we re-film and complete delete challenges all the time when something is wrong or its just a shit video in general, there is far more going on behind the scenes than "we can't be arsed to film again"

You see how the comments get any time there's a mistake like this, can't imagine ppl who get that wound up carry on watching the video (even though they are stupid for getting like that from a bit of fun challenge in a game) It's one of the reasons that I hate when companies add time restrictions on sponsorship. Because it places pressure on release, which can then also negatively impact metrics. I guess the sponsorship revenue negates this, but the overall earned will still be less than it could've been if said companies don't forcefully rush a release Although I also understand, this prolly isn't something you two can comment on, as I don't want you guys to f up a sponsorship deal in the future. So just take it as my own rambling

Out of curiosity, if you HAD gotten a Leaf-Bladed Sword, would you have been actually able to use it? The sword itself was released in 2008, but the monsters that drop it were obviously already in the game, it was just added to their drop table. I'd assume you just straight didn't consider drop table changes that just added already-existing items (since it would have been difficult to play around that), but did it matter for items that weren't released in the time period?

Can you tell link to take all the broodoo shields with charges off the randomizer? With 3 different kinds of shields with 20 variants each, that means there were over 60 broodoo shields in the pool and even though it didn't actually matter (guthans spear is 2h lol) it could matter in the future.

Would be cool but they might have to cross reference what sites they are using as you could just find some bogus guide with terrible gear and the other might find a different guide , maybe like they both have to use the same gear setups from an old guide and do 5 boss KC and whoever has the fastest time gets spins on the randomizer

Pvp idea, start with 'x' amount of time to get gear you spin on the randomiser but each level teir of gear reduces the time dragon could resuce by 30 mins, barrows could be 45 mins- an hour per item and if the items aren't acquired in the time you have the other person gets the items you haven't got

It wouldn’t have mattered as much because rargh probably would have gone melee anyway and lost. Magic was going to be OP for this era pvp fight anyway because range counter would be hard to put together. Still a fun video to watch

PvP suggestion - how about you n link be traded over the same 28 items. And you both pick your own set ups from these 28 items.. can do best of 3.. fights range melee mage obvs the 28 items will have to be carefully planned

Y'all are goin way too hard on Link in the comments, so what if he missed one of the rules. If Rargh thought it was a bad enough mistake they would've scrapped the vid or redone the fight. Clearly he still had fun, and watching Link make the mistakes made for a funny bit to laugh at. Mistakes aside, great vid fellas.
