I got the awd last Friday, I also have a c class merc, this car is amazing in build quality, drive and power in the awd is bannanas, best bang for buck ever! Better then the c-class in every way!

I sold my Merc and bought the AWD Performance. No regrets, lovely drive, love everything, accept waiting for OTA to improve ADAS. In China this Q and next, big OTA's taking place bringing ADAS upto level 2+. Hope Seal gets the same.

Interesting observation, and I agree. I have been a multiple Mercedes owner for nearly twenty years, but have been phasing out my ICE cars for EVs, first with a Model 3 SR+ (made in China) and now a Seal dual motor. Other than my 2003 Mercedes CLK, the Seal has probably been the best quality car I have owned. The last Mercedes I bought was a C class, a 2016 coupe. But the quality was nothing like my older 2003 CLK. I have also owned M class cars, great for their day but not as good as the CLK. I wish I never sold the CLK for the newer C class coupe, the later car was quite disappointing. People who are ignorant of the facts laugh when they hear that the Seal can compete with Mercedes, but these people have no idea, really.

Which generation of c class is your c class? I have brand new 2022 a class sedan, i will test drive this awd Seal next week but i am skeptical it will feel better than my a class sedan.

I feel like I'm missing something. How is it? A Tesla is over 4 grand cheaper. Rear boot in a Tesla is nearly 300 litres more. And I'm not even a Tesla fan. I'm really scratching my head!

Tesla is boring. The Seal has all the Tesla's good qualities but actually looks and feels way better. The build quality and interior are lengths beyond the minimalist Tesla.

@@niallbenn I would agree with you in some respects it's maybe not a game changer but its looks and quality seem to be better than the Tesla....I really don't like the removal of indicator stalks....to me that is a game changer (in the opposite way) not in a good way but maybe you would get used to it but I still think it's an accident waiting to happen. Time will tell

I am planning to buy BYD Seal. I read an article from UK saying that when the car is passing rough surface road the driver can feel quite strong vibration on the steering wheel. Is that really the case, please kindly share your experience on this matter.

It's true that the perceived prestige of BMW or Mercedes-Benz can influence pricing. If this car were branded as such, its price might be tripled based on the association with luxury and quality. Brand perception often plays a significant role in pricing. Super Value for the money and no car can beat that😮

Having driven both the Tesla is the better driver choice - albeit by a fairly small margin. As I mention elsewhere in this thread the Seal has low(er) ground clearance which was unfortunately a dealbreaker for me.

Its definitely a great looking ev... Ive seen a few quick snippets of the BYD Han and its on uet another lever, if itakes it to these shores it will probably be around the €80k mark but it looks a serious motor.

I've been subbed to you for donkey's Nobby and tbh I'm a bit old school car wise. Hell, my daily's a 90's Honda.😳Its ECU is two electrodes jammed into a lemon powering a bulb😄 But I keep watching because your stuff because you're always informative and give real world(tm) opinions, and aren't afraid to point to duffers. @@NobbyOnCars I hear that. Like so many cars, you used to see Preludes all the time and one day they all seemingly vanished. A lot were autos which didn't help. Pity. Nice cars. I suppose they didn't have the motorsport connection, the R treatment, nor the now muy importante game/anime tie ins, so weren't "JDM" enough to become 'classics'. The latter is an interesting one, where you see folks being oddly nostalgic about cars(and times) around before they were even born, but became touchstones because of games and anime. Initial D and Toyota twin cams a good example(though we always had a soft spot for them in Ireland). But yeah, dig your content. Always interesting and I usually learn something new. 🙂 That said, if you put me in that BYD, I'd still wonder where's the key, why is it beeping at me and why am I so confused? 😄

Just took a test drive two days ago. It's a very nice car for sure. I like the way it drives and the seats are very comfortable. I also like that it isn't as minimalistic as Tesla - I like knobs and manual controls! Lacks the software control and the one-pedal-driving of Tesla though, so I'm still torn between this and the Model 3.

V2L feature on the BYD might come handy for various occasions. e.g. emergency situations, camping, use it as power reservoir by load up your home battery when you have shady days with solar panels.

Looking forward to test driving the RWD version on Wednesday. I'm coming from a Kia eSoul and really want to get back to a saloon and lower ride height. I look for tech rather than speed/power so no interest in the AWD version when all the tech is in both, except for the HUD. Not sure if both versions have iTac? Great looking car, inside and out, especially the indigo grey.

I just ordered the base model (Dynamic) Seal in Australia for A$50500. Drive away. This is about 30000 Euros. It has a 150kw rear motor, a 60kwh battery, fake leather seats, smaller wheels, slower DC charging 110kwh and no head up display. Otherwise the car is identical to the version shown.

Have mine dual motor Seal for almost four weeks now. Perfect car, excellent value. In terms of build quality, i would say only the Land Cruiser which i also own can match.

dont have that experience at all. i would say when driving over rough surface, it feels better than the Land Cruiser and Subaru Outback i also own

Tahiti blue interior Nobby, isn't it seriously quiet inside. Having to turn off the ADAS every time tho.... then again a friend of mine has an Ioniq6 & says he just drives to the limits now & it's saved him from d photo in d post once r twice. Great video & looking forward to the week test 👌

EU must have some hell of a tarrifs. Just done some conversions from prices here in Aus, Base model is EUR30k, Medium (what you were driving) is EUR35.5k and AWD is EUR41.7k

A lovely car , I would prefer the black interior, €46,500 is the cheapest I have seen so far that is with the grant, but its a lot of car for that money , 💰 hopefully the dealership will spread across the country

As a lifelong car enthusiast, I fail to see the justification in paying €6k extra for the AWD version. I know it id restricted to 180km/h but 500+ bhp seems to be futile when we have a rigidly enforced speed limit where you can be fined for very minor breaches. Keeping 500+ bhp below some absurdly low limits is difficult

I know the UK is saturated by speed cameras but our govt plans to catch up with average speed cams etc. Already, sneaky tactics are used and many are fined for minor breaches. Mobile cameras are often deployed where limits are needlessly low. The final week of a month us lethal for this. They deny financial/detection quotas apply but we all know all govts will do anything for easy money and call it key performance indicators.

Looking to purchase the Seal but the indicators on the right was putting me off. I saw a couple of reviews that said BYD were moving the indicator stalks to the left for the UK market. I contacted BYD Birmingham today and they confirmed all Seal models sold in the UK have indicator stalk on the left.

I've got no problems with the turn sigs being on the right. It's always been that way in Aus. Your problem stems from driving converted left-hand drive vehicles for right-hand drive.

Thanks for the review Nobby! The rear seats seem tight, certainly more than i expected. Is it better than that of the Volvo EX30 in your opinion?

Legroom versus EX30 I’d have to refresh my memory, it doesn’t feel vast in the back but the front seats were quite far back when I filmed the rear. I wouldn’t say the Volvo is much smaller if at all though. I think Volvo have managed to squeeze a lot into the cabin space.

I can answer this as saw both on Saturday, the EX30 is very very tight in the back. The seal is huge in comparison for the rear space. I’m even going to get my deposit back in the EX30 based on the rear space. I’m handing back my leased Polestar 2 in June after 3 years and think the Seal is going to be my replacement. Only biggest criticism is the Seal has no 1 pedal driving. I’m going to miss that in the P2

@@peterb5113 I test drove the Polestar 2 before buying the Seal and the whole car feels small, even smaller than my Model 3. Also, I thought the OPD in the Polestar was nowhere near as smooth as in the Tesla.

Had a Seal on order (RWD or AWD - hadn't quite decided, but likely the AWD) Had to cancel my order after test driving the Seal, as it has quite low ground clearance and was a certainty to scrape the leading edge of the bumper as I drive into my carport via a fairly steep (but compliant) driveway. Only had 2 centimetres of clearance at the junction where the driveway levels out into my carport. Scraping damage to the underside of the bumper was guaranteed. Also, some speed humps and front wheel parking stop bollards would eventually cause damage to the bumper. I was happy with the vehicle. We have the BYD Atto 3, so was looking forward to having two BYD's in the carport. I've since ordered a Tesla Model 3 AWD which has higher clearance than the Seal. Buyer beware and be informed to make sure you're happy with the lower ground clearance of this vehicle before committing to purchase. Otherwise, it's a great car.

@@NobbyOnCars Thanks for pointing out that the front is quite low. VERY few reviewers (only 1 Australian reviewer out of a few dozen I viewed and read) mentioned that the car is quite low to the ground. A very important point as I discovered!

Think they missed a trick by having it as a booted saloon - rather than a lift back. First thing I do when I get a car - is bung mud flaps on it. Driving on country roads just make them essential - really difficult to clean car without them. Different when you’re mostly around town.

Completely agree this and the Ioniq 6 have missed a serious trick leaving out the liftback. The ID.7 has it and the difference is night and day. I'm well aware ID.7 is a lot bigger and €15k more expensive. Wake up VW your cars in Ireland are stupidly over priced.

They have both the Seal U and the Sea lion 07 models that are larger Suv's than the Atto 3 for those not looking for a sedan, whether they come to Ireland in the near future is anyone's guess.

21:00 BYD make their own batteries because they started as a battery tech company. About 30% chance any of your devices at home have a BYD battery in it

It’s a nice looking car but something a bit off about it, it’s nearly there but not quite! The interior is a bit fussy too although quality seems good as you did. Very big battery I wonder is the efficiency not great that’s often the case if a battery that big is needed. Pretty decent overall be interesting to see the review after spending the week with it.

Tesla vision is a joke and functional indicator stalks would be helpful. BYD supply the LFP batteries to Tesla. Tesla supercharger network is being opened up to non Telsa EV's. I believe that BYD sold more cars than Tesla. Rome is falling.

As 98% of my charging is done at home, I have no interest in the Tesla charging network. But for other reasons the Model 3 is a better choice from my evaluation of both. Even with the U.S. centric move to remove the indicator (and) wiper stalks, which wasn't a positive OR necessary move, IMHO! 😉

Lovely car! People need to get out and test drive these, the drive is excellent. Forget any comparisons against the Tesla, that's click bait, in my opinion these are designed to beat ICE cars. I'm waiting for mine which is currently in the NDC and my app is already linked and active.

I was and still is a fan of the Seal. But had to order a Model 3 due to the Seal being too low for my use. But it was a great car to drive. Not better than the new Model 3, but very, very close, with the seats being more comfortable that what Tesla supply.

Great review Nobby, but what you failed to mention is depreciation! 30% depreciation in the first year, I've learned that at my own expense. I've owned an EV for a year, if you don't have a home charger forget it. Buy a PHEV or ICE for better residuals and ease of use!

Cars like BMW 3 series and other german cars in this segment are just done. really hopeless compared to what these new EVs from China and Tesla are doing. BYD is a fantastic car i have seen one at my local showroom and my daily is a Tesla Model 3 Performance. The only things BYD can't compete with my Tesla is charging speed 250 kw vs 150 kw, Tesla's brilliant vast supercharger networks which are not simply cheaper but most reliable and easiest to use and fastest version of BYD Seal is still not as fast as my M3P and Tesla will announce the all new Model 3 Performance or Plaid version this year which is expected to be even crazier for car enthusiasts or those like high performance cars.

Great car, poor price. Was touted as this Tesla killer and the main aspect to do that is the price. 45k starting price is just a big no no. How do you release the car to kill the Tesla at a more expensive starting point. They've missed a trick here.

Over 4 grand more than a Tesla. More official km range but hard to see how these would be preferred. Not sure how this is putting pressure on other car makers when a Tesla is cheaper. I'd say BYD are under more price pressure which is nuts.

Far too expensive, EVs are not yet an alternative until they have a 800km real world range with 5 minute charge times ( similar to ICE cars) The charging network is nowhere near what is needed

Ireland is a small country. There is absolutely no need for ranges of that level here and home charging removes the need for the charging network almost entirely.

not everyone lives in Dublin where access to ev chargers exist. If you lived in west Donegal there is no EV that you could trust to go to Dublin airport on a cold wet windy morning, park it for a 2 week holiday and have enough battery range to drive home at night after your holiday. Chinese EVs do not have repair centres or spare parts easily available. In 10 years time EVs may become worthwhile but not now

And if you’re going from Donegal to Dublin there are plenty of charging options en route and in Dublin to charge the battery so you can get home.

Agreed, but the software isn't there yet. Also, they want to work with tesla due to their supercharger network. Just give it a year :) I did see matt Watson did a drag with both finishing exact same time. I've a family of 4 boot space matters. Handling due to its weight it tricky as well. I'm sticking with both my Teslas for now Model 3 & X

If you’re as old as me it’s come full circle, in the days of ICE and manual gear shift they were always on the right so as you could indicate while changing gear. I got used to the left pretty quickly with modern cars so imagine it won’t take long to go back 👍🏻

not a good deal: low charging speed 10-80% arround 40 minutes, no camera preview when turn on turn signal, no one-pedal-driving, smaller trunk than M3, high consumption, no indicator of battery % when navigating, NO preconditioning!!! very bad in winter this is a LFP chemistry and very sensitive to low temperature!... I know it, I had a long term test ride... and quality? smash the door and you will see... no good deal

I have both a Model 3 and a Seal and I can safely say your summary is fairly biased: The Model 3 RWD has a similar charging rate, courtesy of both having an LFP battery (which is the only battery chemistry I would buy). This eliminates the Model 3 LR for me. Besides, most EV owners would charge at home, which means DC charging is not as important as some people make out. The camera preview is useless because you have to took at the centre screen, when you should be looking out of the side windows. I have never used it in my Tesla. One Pedal Driving is great, but it's not that big a deal. The seal does have lift off regen, it just won't bring you to complete stop. But the other factor to consider is that the Seal brake pedal will also charge the battery, and only engage friction brakes to completely stop. The Model 3 brakes are friction brakes only. The trunk volume on the Model 3 seems to be overstated in the specs and understated for the Seal. No idea how this happened. I don't find much difference in practical use. I can get similar efficiency in my dual motor Seal compared to my single motor Model 3 RWD, around town, if I drive carefully. I have no idea how the BYD does it, maybe it runs off the front motor only in such situations. You are also overlooking the main reason I will never trade my current Model 3 for the Highland - no stalks.

​@@NobbyOnCars if you compare a Seal with a M3 you need to talk about facts not emotions. I just report about facts what I notice after a weekend ride with a seal comparing to my M3 RWD. Seal has buggy software too and NO route planing (you need to add charging stations by yourself). Just let the people know what they get not what they want to see despite @vail7410: charging curve from seal is not flat. M3 RWD has a peak to 177kWh until around 20%... around 50% still over 100kWh = never longer then 30 minutes from 10 to 80% even in cold weather!!! because M3 has battery preconditioning... seal = NONE!

For a new brand in Ireland, this car needs to be CHEAPER than the M3 and other competitors. The bells and whistle gadgets don't count for much when all is said and done. 45k is too steep at this stage of the game. Ps.. I wish this presenter would stop gushing over silly little things and get real about the obvious problems with BYD, like annoying sounds, distracting warning & immature software.
