Hello my dear friends,
It is a great feeling to be with you again. As always, I missed your comments, your thoughts, and talking about them together.
In this work, I share with you the restoration process of chisel, which was given to me by a friend from Edinburgh, and I would like to thank my friend for this beautiful gift;
William Marples & Sons (1859-1971) Sheffield, England. One of the main tools of traditional woodworking.
As always, you will be satisfied with wood and metal craftsmanship. I was very satisfied with the condition of the chisel after the work was finished. I hope you will also be pleased to watch this process. Functionality, aesthetics and marks of time, I restored on these three elements.
Sheffield is very famous for its steel and I did my work without changing the hardness of the steel and without damaging it.
Something you haven't seen before in this video is my new myFord lathe. I am very happy to introduce him to you.
While presenting all this craft work to you, I tried to share my aesthetic perception and beauty philosophy with you as much as possible and as always, I added my love for nature and animals.
Also as always, my dear cat co-workers were very helpful in this project.
I hope you like this work of mine, where I live many seasons of life together.
Instagram @byoldhand / It will be a pleasure to see you there too.
Don't forget to like and subscribe if you like it. I would be glad.
I greet you all sincerely.

As a cat person, I really enjoy your shop helpers. I appreciate you not using some annoying music in your wonderfully crafted videos. The sounds of tools in the hands of the Master are the sweetest music to one’s ear. Your videos rise to the level of ASMR, for which I thank you.

I love the total process you use to make old things "new" again and you do it without taking any of the character of the piece away. There are few restorers that I care to watch simply because the process matters as does the age of the piece they take on. I am always so happy to see you post something unique and it's always a pleasure to see your beautiful cats. Until the next one...stay safe and thank you for sharing!

Now I will tell you why I appreciate your work so much: 1: the slow time, so suitable for craftwork, and so able to instil calmness 2: the love you show for the objects, the tools, and the materials. Only by loving wood, metal, its tactile aspect, can you restore it with so much respect 3: always try to save every part that can be restored, and respect the signs of time and the life of the objects, without making them falsely and stupidly 'new' 4: you love cats and good drinks Keep up the good work!

Just lovely work. I have recently inherited a case full of my father's excellent quality chisels and gouges, plus a radius plane with interchangeable blades that he made himself as an apprentice industrial pattern maker in England in the early 1940's. He never touched them after he retired at sixty-five, and he was ninety-seven when he died so they have seen many years of neglect. I only hope that I can do half as good a job of restoring them to working condition as you have managed to do with this piece. You have my sincere admiration.

My dear Old Hand, what a wonderful rescue of a hard worked old chisel from my own homeland. I have several Marples chisels from my cabinet maker’s apprenticeship in the mid 80’s but they are all polycarbonate (please don't judge me) and being a young man I had no interest in old fashioned tools despite being told how much better the steel was, but I now understand that a young mans ignorance is an old mans regret… I love the passion and respect that you show all of these older items and the fact that you will only ever replace that which cannot be saved. May I be rude and ask what the lovely looking amber liquid in the small glass was? As always thank you so much for the video and allowing us to share your workshop time with you, best regards from Glasgow Scotland

@@byOldHand Thank you for taking the time to reply, My apologies I did not mean the Methylated Spirit I meant the small glass (perhaps of a different alcohol) that you yourself were enjoying in the video.

I'm sorry, I didn't pay attention to the amber word. That's the linseed oil I use. My special mix. It also contains some spices. for this reason, it looks a bit viscous and amber.

You are going to have no hair left on your hands pretty soon. I do love that you take so much time on the old well used and loved tools. It reminds me of my father and grandfather’s tools which as a female I still held onto until I gave them to a extended family member who would appreciate them. Just because something is old doesn’t mean it has no value. Although still after 44 years of marriage I can’t get my husband to agree with me. However he still has hunting clothes he has had since he was in his 20’s (we both are in our 70’s). Go figure.
