WOW ! Both passwords said "wrong" - number of retries exceded but then it took me to the startup screen where I can choose to enter bios and - bingo ! Thank you Justin !!!

Well I got this Intel lock message after tearing into the laptop to replace a part and put it back together. It asked for a password, but then the motherboard stopped letting me boot so the motherboard fried. If I replace the motherboard, will this fix the problem or are the hard drives that were connect to computer also locked too?

In some instances especially in secondhand computers your bios password might have been changed at some point these are just default passwords

Does the Intel lock thing also lock your hard drives? Mine locked up after taking it apart wanting password, but then wouldn’t turn in anymore. Hopefully my hard drives aren’t locked too as I’ll lose data.

@@colt5189 No, the bios will just prevent the CPU from booting. This is all this is. If you replace the motherboard, you can get a whole new bios with it and it shouldn't affect your hard drives in any way

@@LSDummy I got a spare hard drive with the OS on it and a spare motherboard that has a bad CMOS battery holder. I installed both in the computer. My OS C: Drive and 2nd drive that were in the locked down computer, I plugged them into the USB port, and nothing happened. After a while, that OS C: Drive finally showed up in Computer and I’ve got it running the computer. Though that 2nd drive still doesn’t show up when I plug it into the USB port. When I plug it in, nothing happens. Any ideas?

@@colt5189 if you installed them via USB I would probably be looking for drivers. I'm thinking the reason why It took a while for the drive to show up because it was installing drivers.
