When the teachers become students of each other we have a true treat in store. These programs are masterpieces of learning and represent a significant sacrifice of time and effort that benefits the entire church as we supplement the excellence of Come Follow Me with spiritually enhanced scholarship. Thanks to all four of you.

Personally, I always view this quote from the Prophet Joseph Smith in the context of what he refers it to. Namely, first as the keystone of our religion and second by abiding by its precepts. Point one, our religion is not our theology but our religious life, i.e your and my religion in the context of what ties us to God. What is it that ties us to God? The first principles and covenant-ordinances of faith in Jesus Christ, repentance, baptism, and the gift of the Holy Ghost. The use of the word keystone for me is seen at a personal level. It is the keystone of my personal testimony and my religious life. This is supported by Point two when the Prophet Joseph says a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts. It is the precepts in the Book of Mormon that are correct and that abiding to those precepts will help us to get nearer to God. The important point is this book of scripture is full of truth. The Bible has errors and misinterpretations by translators. It is a glass that is not full of water. The Book of Mormon in comparison is a full glass of water, i.e. it is full of the gospel. However, the Book of Mormon does not contain every truth. It does not speak of the temple and many other doctrines. Just as a full glass does not contain all the water in the world, so a ‘gospel in its fulness’ is only to be found in other scriptures and revelations that are found in the Doctrine and Covenants, Pearl of Great Price, and in the Temple. The Bible contains the ‘gospel’; the Book of Mormon contains the ‘fulness of the gospel’; and the D&C, PoGP, and Temple contain the ‘gospel in its fulness’.

Helpful insights here and there. Yet I prefer to discern as I learn. @4:34 Tyler Griffin says there are “significant doctrinal changes” from the 1830 edition of the BoM, but in his example, 1 Nephi 11, the textual alteration _does not change doctrine;_ rather it merely clarifies the intent of the text. @10:03, I disagree with Griffin again. He points to a non-existent anachronism, saying that the name Jesus Christ was not ‘discovered’ till 2 Nephi 25 (verse 19?) Reading the verse, it merely implies the name Jesus Christ _is first mentioned_ in the text, that’s all. I’ve learned through the years that our own faithful Latter-day Saint PhD holders can bear error. They are not scholar-deities. Here, I don’t always trust their thrust, their esoteric rhetoric. Yet I like Tyler’s mention that the big picture is key. Later, Nick Frederick misspeaks when @15:23 he says, “This goes back to the literal meaning that historea _[sic]_ is investigation or inquiry; it’s not laying out the facts of what actually happened … [It’s] not as a statement of fact.” This is the wordcraft that academia sometimes gets lost in-even in the Faith. And it’s why I chose a secular university for my Religious Studies degree, _not BYU._

Thank you for you comments. However, I firmly believe in my opinion that The Book of Mormon is superior doctrinally than the Bible. The Bible doesnt even come close to what the Book of Mormon offers..My OPINION.

I love the Bible and Book of Mormon, and put the Book of Mormon over the Bible a lot of times. Yet I do not neglect the importance of the Bible, neither should you.
