Could you all provide info on what a home user should have in their A/V rack and your top picks for manufactures of that hardware/software?

We would recommend a good router, 16 or 24 port 1GB network switch w/IGMP snooping. Most companies actually make and recommend their own fully bench tested network switches for overall reliability and performance as the best option. Otherwise, CAT6/7 cabling to the displays from your rack, your preferred sources and power surge protection devices. Coming up in Parts 2 and 3 of our AVoIP series, we’ll actually cover more about the differences between the brands and you can decide which brand/models fit your requirements. Please note, each brand has unique capabilities which affects the price that will best fit your budget.

With hdmi 2.1 right around the corner what will be better suited for getting signals across long distances? An hdmi 2.1 extender once one hit the market or av over ip assuming av over ip will support the hdmi 2.1 standard? I currently use an hdmi extender from my media closet that’s connected to my receiver and all of my media devices and it broadcasts to my display in the other room for a clean no wires exposed setup. I am in the market to upgrade my tv to a 4k display (a 2019 or 2020 model) as well as upgrading my receiver. That’s why I’m looking for advice on the best solution for extending 4k hdr signals with the lowest possible latency (huge gamer). Thanks for the help!!!

Great question! Being a big gamer, it’s always better and more cost effective to connect gaming with an HDMI cable under 25 ft to avoid any real latency issues associated with long distance transmissions via CAT5/6/7. You can optionally send the audio back to the receiver for sound over category cable. Of course, fiber optic extenders are the real way to go for optimal gaming solutions over long distances. Unfortunately it’s a bit pricey: bzbexpress.com/691-4K60-4x2x0-HDMI-MM-SM-Fiber-Optic-Transmitter-USB-Ethernet-RS-232-IR-Stereo-Audio-by-Kramer.html If category cabling is your only option, it's really a personal preference. You’ll always have to give something up to gain something else. Specs between the different technologies rarely match up the way we'd like. HDMI 2.1 is on the way, which is cool, but most folks who don’t buy a new TV next year won’t have 2.1 ports capable of simultaneously displaying 4K/120Hz. Most will still have to choose between 4K/60Hz or 1440P/120Hz; you cannot have both as of now. Neither XBOX ONE S nor X are capable as well. Current TV broadcasting standard is only 60Hz and it'll be some time before cable companies are pushing 120Hz. So if you buy that new TV with 2.1 HDMI ports, first, I am jealous! Second, I recommend using a 2.1 HDMI cable, at least until long distant extenders or AVoIP can meet your requirements. But for online gamers who are used to being taken out sooner than later anyway, either AVoIP or HDBaseT will work at your convenience with very little noticeable differences between the two technologies. Unless you’re planning to roll out a complete AVoIP solution for your home in the long run, the CAT extenders would be the more cost effective solution at this time. Stay tuned for Part 2 where we'll compare specs like latency and resolutions. We’ll be using an XBOX ONE S as part of the demo. Thanks for tuning in! BTW, here’s more info regarding communication latency: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latency_(engineering)#Communication_latency

Can’t believe it but I actually got the wiring and switch right, which is surprising considering that I wired my house back in 2015. The router I need to upgrade, thinking about the new Asus ax range of router. In the next parts of your upcoming series can you also go over the pros and cons of using av over ip vs extenders? This will also help with the upgrade decisions. I saw an alert about a 98 foot hdmi cable with fiber optics that I’m about to research to see if this is a viable solution for me as well.

I am building a new house. I am running Cat6A, but should I run fiber to handle the future bandwidth needs? (I was going to install a 10Gb POE switch anyway.) The cost of the fiber doesn't matter as I can get it in bulk very cheaply.

@BZBTVchannel 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Anthony, CAT6a will suffice just fine. But if you are going to jump from one Network Switch to another, its not a bad idea to run Fiber between them for the best performance. Do you have a AVoIP system in mind? Which control System are you looking at using? BZBGEAR's AVoIP Transceivers include KVM functionality and a Free APP for switching! Call or email Sales for more information! bzbgear.com/products/av-over-ip/ Thanks for the question!

If you have multiple sources (i.e roku + nvr) each with their own transmitter rubbing through a network switch, how does the decoder know which transmitter its communicating with? Example decoder is connected to hdmi 1 and decoder is connected to hdmi 2; how does the decoder know to output the roku on one hdmi and the nvr on the other hdmi?

Hi Rowland, the ability for the Receiver to communicate with the Transmitter is built into the programming. Configure settings using the Gateway controller. Check out our recent videos demonstrating BZBGEARs AVoIP System using (BG-VOP-MT) Transceivers and the (BG-VOP-CB) Gateway controller in conjunction with our free BG-AVoIP-CONTROL App available at the Apple Store for iOS mobile devices. AVoIP is great with video quality, and Latency but the bit rates of these streams are very large. I think many of the deployments should go with an IPTV system. Customers get more features such as Digital Signage, much lower bit rates 3-8Mbits vs 1 GigBit for HD. IPTV can deliver video to TV's, Computer and mobile devices. AVoIP just TV.s Also IPTV can stream outside the enterprise over the internet. AVoIP is no way the future of video on the network. Look at all the content providers (DirecTV, Comcast, KZfaq etc). All h.264 compressed video.

Hi, AVOIP also is used for KVM purposes in commercial applications. The use of encoders and decoders over the LAN is not going away, but will only grow which is why so many large companies have invested heavily into it. When it comes to residential applications, streaming IPTV is the standard. But not for commercial world. Thanks for your input!

It doesnt make sense in its conception... 1GB pipe... for a 18GB need... some serious compression is taking place...

Yes, it's compressed! 10G Networks are better and uncompressed. We recommend 10G Network switches and Coders if the cost is not an issue or the existing cabling is CAT6, as 10G requires it. There will be less latency and it is more reliable.

maybe you don't need to push all those 18gb into that 1gb pipe at once. keep in mind that video has a bitrate
