@Cabo Wabo very different styles, express yourself has a lot more mo-town inspired bass line, this one is too quick to be mo-town, kinda fits the disco or jazz inspired funk you'd see in old Kung fu movies. I could see this bass line being used in a Wu Tang sample.

The woman in this video is Zelma Davis, an incredibly talented studio vocalist who just happens to be beautiful (unlike about 99% of studio vocalists). I have an amusing story about her. One day back in the late 1980's in Hollywood, I was in a Taco Bell. The background music was playing John Lennon's, "Imagine", which is an award winning incredible track. You wouldn't think it could possibly be improved upon. Then from across the floor there came an angelic, magical voice singing along with it softly. It was AMAZING! It was like, "This would have been a thousand times more popular if this woman had only been on the recording!" I had to go see who it was. Yeah. Okay. It was Zelma Davis. Same woman as is in this video. She was a triple-scale studio vocalist and key to the success of C&C Music Factory. She had it all. Then got mixed up with the very wrong people.

No nudity, no calls to kill somebody, no drugs, no calls to rob some stores, no insults, no foul words. Pretty cute words, very sweet gestures, soft yet powerful music, great performance. How could this song be so popular?? 🤔😳😂🎹🎵🔥🔥🔥

This was chosen MTV's best video clip of 1991, and I think that they were SO right! The video, the song, the voices, the arrangements. It's like the perfect song for dancing. But well, back in those days you could REALLY dance all night long, the music was so good and each song was very different from the other. Like the artists (which they were, artists) competed not for a higher position on a rank (or number of viewers...) but to see who made the best song. So sad that now everything is so similar and no one seems to really care.

Totally serious on this: This video completely stands the test of time. It's as fresh now as it was back then. It must be the excellent use of black and white. Bravo Cevilles and Cole and the fit one and the one from the Weather Girls.

I don't half miss the 90s, a great decade for British music. If only I had access to a time machine, I'd go back to the summer of 1991 right now, when this entry from C & C, and many other fine tunes filled the charts ....

It seems like 80's new wave with the British migrated to 90's dance music. This combined with acid jazz and west coast hip hop we were spoiled
