XFF should never have married him. She had to put up with his mom and sister being nasty and him being a doormat. He threw away his wife because his mom threatened to kill herself if he didn't join hands with the princess. Pretty much he chose to his mom and sister over his wife. His mother wanted him to be on the fast track in his career so that she could enjoy the benefits. All that A'Li threw away on that man and the minute he gets into the palace this is what that family does to her. Hopefully, he and Wanning wind up married to each other in their next lives.

His and the princess's acting really bring life to the drama, especially his expressive eyes and micro facial expression. Both characters are pathetic and suffer a tragic end.
