There are many options for composting toilets out there so After 4 months of usage i thought i would let you know what i thought about my C-Head. i'm gonna let you in on a little something i didn't expect to encounter.

Im an over the road truck driver andbhave the 5 gallon bucket with bags and a good seat that seals from amazon. It works great actually. When im not on the road i have a 100% off grid travel trailer that me and the wife stay in. Its all solar powered and the only isue was dumping the black tank. We got the macerator which helped but it was still dealing with sewer. The bucket bag system in the semi is much better so im switching out the toilet in the camper this weekend with a similar system.

Just a little basin chemistry !!!! Don’t use bleach water , urine/ammonia and bleach create chloramine gas which can be toxic . Use the vinegar water mix as recommended by other comments. Great video instrumental for the newbie.

if you mix some rubbing alcohol and water in a spray bottle and spray the mist, it will kill the fruit flies that are buzzing around. Might not take care of the eggs, but if you have a little swarm that's bothering you it will take care of them.

Thank you for the video! very helpful to know your experience, you really broke down how this thing was made, and what happened in your experience. Now i'm considering the price point vs. the time i'll save myself buying it instead of building some kind of toilet solution. This helps me.

Thanks so much for sharing. FYI, one can make an effective fruit fly trap - they are attracted to apple cider vinegar - basically a jar with a little vinegar & couple drops of soap, with a cone coffee filter on top (cone going into the jar, snip the tip off so there's a little hole to let them in), held on with a rubber band.

6 years with the C Head on my cruising sailboat. The bugs you get are not fruit flies. They are mold gnats. Any they make their way in because of the moisture you mention. Don’t use the small lid and greatly reduced the occurrence. The small lid is counter productive to the drying process. But it helps sell the units to the squeamish. You are going way overboard in how you deal with it. Don’t use the small lid, and leave the seat up to avoid trapping moisture. If you get them, you can just get some more ventilation going on and spin the handle a little more. Change out the batch if you want to handle it faster. But there is no need to panic about cleaning out eggs. Get the moisture out better, and don’t panic.

I think i have an update video on this issue because that is what i have been doing. Its been 1.5 yrs with it now and its only a bit bad when im in a hot humid area and nothing anywhere dries out. But leaving the small lid off does help. I think im going to go ahaed and add the vent at some point and a small fan

Made Purchase of C-Head in March 2022. Understood they were having issues and moving. Gave benefit of the doubt and waited. Contacted with concerns but waited . . . and waited. Contacted many times since. Called and left messages. No response. No tracking number. No delivery. Nothing at all. Requested a refund . . . ZIP.

I think a lot of people are missing the point of the churning handle in this toilet. “Loading” the bucket is critical. When added as recommended by C-head, there’s rarely ever any reason to add additional medium unless extra moisture gets into the bucket. The reason for the churning handle is to churn the #2 into the medium. I use hemp. It’s drier, and that keeps my wife happier, since the loveliest gender does, on occasion, do a #3. 😁

I look forward to the video when you totally take it apart again. I own a sun-mar, a enviorlet and a incinolet incinerating toilet. None of which separate so I don’t like any of them at all. I’d like to look into getting one of these though I’ll wait until I see your video because I have a lot of money wrapped up into these already. Right now I have 2 commercial porta Jons on my property so I’m eager to get a C-head. Ty for doing a good job explaining

hola, I hear everywhere that paper can’t be dropped in there, because its too light and floats compared to the other toilets.... how about using a water spray bottle and sprinkle it wet a bit, than it should sink in?.... could you try and tell if it makes a difference? I am still searching and had the idea, cheers from Australia

I have had a composting toilet for about 10 years now, and the only thing that works for me to eliminate the fruit flies is food grade Diatomaceous Earth. I buy it on Amazon, it's quite affordable. I just add about a quarter cup each time I change out the coco coir. If they get particularly bad, then I use a shaker jar and shake some on after number 2. It doesn't affect the compost, it has no smell and it really gets rid of those annoying bugs.

I'm in the market for one of these because it's for a boat, and the footprint is appealing, and less complex and expensive than Nature's Head. However, I was I was wondering about bagging the medium in the solid bucket for storage control during long passages. I'm willing to experiment going DIY, since I'm fed up with the holding tank issues and their inconveniences. Great video. Thank you.

Hey, so depending on how far out you are from shore if over three miles you should be able to toss overboard. If you do decide to keep on board til next stop you can just bag it up but be sure to let breathe so doesn't build up condensation. I recently switched to coconut core for my dry medium and the moisture control is awesome. Shouldn't have odor issues as long as it can air out since compost does create heat.

Hi, i think any paper that is septic safe should work. Just know that if you put the paper in the toilet you have to empty more regularly and try various natural materials so things dont gum up. I just have a small trash can and empty that regularly in regular trash. I promise there is no odor from it and mine does not have a top.

I'm not actually adding it to compost as that's another process if you involve human waste. I only use bleach when cleaning it and sometimes for the funnel for the liquids side. That doesn't mix with the solids

Its recommended that you not put the toilet paper in the toilet because it 1. Adds to much bulk and 2. Because it makes the crank harder to turn so put paper in a trash can . Then you can use whatever paper you want. I guarantee there is no odor from it

Buy the cheap mint flavored mouthwash at Walmart and add one cap full to the urine bottle. It is non toxic alcohol and will kill all urine smells. Use deluded vinegar in a spray bottle for cleaning. Spraying the mouthwash on the separator also works between cleanings.

@@mildredmabelme If they become a problem again a little Bacillus Thuringiensis (Bt) in the composting medium will take care of the larva before they become adults. It's a naturally occurring soil bacteria used for insect control. Harmless to anything but insects and then only the ones that eat it, so bees and beneficial insects are not harmed. Just an idea to keep in mind if you ever need it. Thanks for sharing your experience. You saved me a lot of money with your review.

You do realize that the reason you’re having a problem is operator error? Either your particular load is too much, or your ventilation is not enough. The toilet is a simple device, the issue is most certainly the user. No offense meant, but there are too many in use and happy people, it’s such a simple device.
