Born in 1786 in the Kahlur region of present-day Himachal Pradesh, Zorawar Singh was destined for greatness, displaying valor and leadership from a young age.
Zorawar Singh's military career was marked by his relentless pursuit of expanding the Sikh Empire into the challenging territories of the Himalayan region. As a commander in the Khalsa army, he led numerous daring expeditions into the heart of the Himalayas, earning him the moniker "Himalayan Napoleon." His campaigns, including those in Ladakh, Baltistan, and Tibet, showcased his unmatched strategic acumen and unwavering determination.
One of his most notable achievements was the conquest of Ladakh in 1834. Through meticulous planning and audacious tactics, he managed to capture Leh, the capital of Ladakh, and establish Sikh rule in the region. This victory solidified his reputation as a formidable military leader. Subsequently, Zorawar Singh set his sights on Tibet, a bold endeavor that would test his mettle and courage even further.
In 1841, Zorawar Singh embarked on an expedition into Tibet, leading a small but determined force. Despite facing severe hardships, including harsh weather and treacherous terrain, he advanced deep into Tibet, defeating Tibetan forces in several battles. His ultimate goal was to establish a trade route through Tibet to connect with China and further expand the influence of the Sikh Empire. Unfortunately, his journey took a tragic turn as he was captured and killed by Tibetan forces in 1841. Though he didn't live to see his dream fulfilled, his remarkable efforts left an enduring legacy.
Zorawar Singh Kahluria remains a symbol of valor, determination, and strategic brilliance. His exploits in the Himalayas continue to inspire generations, and his memory is celebrated not only in Himachal Pradesh but throughout India. Zorawar Singh's fearless pursuit of his goals in the face of daunting challenges serves as a testament to the enduring spirit of courage and resilience.

Zorawar Singh (1784-12 December 1841) was a military general of the Dogra Rajput ruler, Gulab Singh of Jammu. [3][4] He served as the governor (wazir-e-wazarat) of Kishtwar and extended the territories of the kingdom by conquering Ladakh and Baltistan.[5] He also boldly attempted the conquest of Western Tibet (Ngari Khorsum) but was killed in battle of To-yo during the Dogra-Tibetan war. In reference to his legacy of conquests in the Himalaya Mountains including Ladakh, Tibet, Baltistan and Skardu as General and Wazir, Zorowar Singh has been referred to as the "Napoleon of India",[6] and "Conqueror of Ladakh".[7][8]

@@amrit.s577 Gulab Singh was born on 17 October 1792 in a Hindu Dogra Rajput family. His father was Kishore Singh Jamwal. He joined the army of Ranjit Singh in 1809 and was sufficiently successful to earn a jagir worth 12,000 rupees and also 90 horses.[1] In 1808, following the Battle of Jammu, the kingdom was annexed by Ranjit Singh. Ranjit Singh appointed a governor to administer the newly conquered area which was expanded in 1819 with the annexation of Kashmir by a Sikh force. In 1820, in appreciation of services rendered by his family and Gulab Singh in particular, Ranjit Singh bestowed the Jammu region as a hereditary fief upon Kishore Singh.[1] Apart from their sterling services, the family's intimate association with the region commended Kishore Singh's candidature to the Lahore court.[5] In 1821, Gulab Singh captured conquered Rajouri from Aghar Khan and Kishtwar from Raja Tegh Mohammad Singh (alias Saifullah Khan).[5] That same year, Gulab Singh took part in the Sikh conquest of Dera Ghazi Khan. He also captured and executed his own clansman, Mian Dido Jamwal, who had been leading a rebellion against the Sikhs.[6] Kishore Singh died in 1822 and Gulab Singh was confirmed as Raja of Jammu by his suzerain, Ranjit Singh.[1] Shortly afterward, Gulab Singh secured a formal declaration of renunciation from his kinsman, the deposed Raja Jit Singh.[7] As Raja (Governor-General/Chief) of Jammu, Gulab Singh was one of the most powerful chiefs of the Sikh Empire. Under the Imperial and Feudal Army arrangement, he was entitled to keep a personal army of 3 Infantry Regiments, 15 Light Artillery Guns and 40 Garrison Guns.[8] In 1824 Gulab Singh captured the fort of Samartah, near the holy Mansar Lake. In 1827 he accompanied the Sikh Commander-in-Chief Hari Singh Nalwa, who fought and defeated a horde of Afghan rebels led by Sayyid Ahmed at the Battle of Shaidu. Between 1831 and 1839 Ranjit Singh bestowed on Gulab Singh the jagir of the salt mines in northern Punjab,[1] and the nearby Punjabi towns like Bhera, Jhelum, Rohtas, and Gujrat.[citation needed] 1837 Poonch Revolt In 1837, after the death of Hari Singh Nalwa in the Battle of Jamrud, the Muslim tribes of Sudhan, Tanolis, Karrals, Dhunds, Sattis and Maldayal rose in revolt in Hazara and Poonch. The insurgency of Poonch was led by Shams Khan, a Chief of the Sudhan tribe[9][10] and former confidential follower of Raja Dhyan Singh.[10] Thus the betrayal of Shams Khan Sudhan against the regime was taken personally and Gulab Singh was given the task of crushing the rebellion. After defeating the insurgents in Hazara and Murree hills, Gulab Singh stayed at Kahuta for some time and promoted disunion among the insurgents. Then his forces were sent to crush the insurgents. Eventually, Shams Khan Sudhan and his nephew Raj Wali Khan were betrayed and their heads were cut off during their sleep while the lieutenants were captured, flayed alive and put to death with cruelty. The contemporary British commentators state that the local population suffered immensely.[1

Being a person from dalit community I have always being biased against rajput community. But I have utmost respect for rajput General Zorawar Singh Kahluria. Under his command Ladakh became part of India and his unsuccessful voyage (due to bad weather and Chinese- Tibet alliance) into Tibet is remarkable. 🙏

Lots of Dogras and Brahmin Hindus in Jammu kashmir became Sikhs during invasions by afghanis and Mughals and fought against oppression . All Sikhs came from strong Hindu families . Once they became Sikhs they became khalsa the army of akaal purakh almighty one god golf universe . Zorawar singh was a general of the sikh empire not the dogra force. He died due to the dogras who had cut off his supplies and no reinforcement they were suffring from snow blindness and frostbite. His idea was to conquer the parts of tibet and unite with the gorkhas. And unite with the gorkhas to fight against the british. Dogras had betrayed the sikh empire and didn't want zorawar singh to creat a Hassel for them so thay cut of his supplies and reinforcement and his message to maharaja sher singh were blocked by the dogras. He died fighting the tibetan tribes. Tibetan tribes had a tradition as if they would kill a fierce animal they would take some part of its body as good luck. Zorawar singh was so fierce that they wanted to take some part of his body so they started to fight amongst themselves and in the end his flesh was auctioned and a smadhi was erected in his name.

Jorawar Singh was a Sikh warrior of Sikh empire. She mentioned Sikh empire only few times. Maharaja Ranjit Singh defeated Afgan tribes from JK and installed Gulab Singh to manage it. JK is now part of India thanks to Sikh Empire and Ranjit Singh. Don’t know why she emphasised Dogra. There was no know independent Dogra Raja.
